Is that a thing? I had my 3 month appointment a couple weeks ago and the scale. won't. budge. I'm losing and gaining the same 5 lbs over and over. Working on upping calories, making sure I get my protein and water, and upping my exercise. Anyone have any other tips?

I am! Trying to remember that that is a key. I actually just put on a dress this morning that I might have to retire, or at least belt! Haha!

Thanks to you both--I'll keep riding it out

The only weigh-ins that "count" for me are the ones at my surgeon's office. I weigh myself fairly frequently at home, but I don't record those anywhere. I just use them for mental checks, especially when I've changed stages in the diet to see if I'm still on track, or if I've hit a stall to see when it breaks.

The Enell bras give a whole new meaning to 'Locked and loaded'---they are well worth the money. I can run and my 44H girls didn't budge! I actually couldn't fit in mine for a bit prior to surgery and missed it. I'm glad to be able to wear it again :-)

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +
jenbugwi replied to Frustr8's topic in The Gals' Room
Glad to have come across this post! My HW in April, 2017 was 337. I had my VSG exactly a year later to the day due to insurance issues (mine didn't cover surgery, so we had to wait for my husband's open enrollment period, etc.) SW was 276 and I'm currently around 248-250, depending on whether I want to trust my scale or not----6 weeks post-op. I'm sticking with dresses and leggings, at least through the summer. I have no pants that fit, and I don't want to buy much until I'm closer to goal. I have a couple pairs of jeans that I'm bagging around in on the weekends. I had held on to my "skinny clothes" from a previous weight loss and those have helped me, but I agree with others that the midsection is the hardest. I've been surprised at how my legs have firmed up so quickly. Now to get the rest to catch up! I turn 50 in a few months. Thanks for starting this thread! -
Rash all over my upper body !
jenbugwi replied to Rebecca Zaragoza's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You could also be having a reaction to meds or something else related to surgery. Get checked out---I had a similar issue for a different surgery and ended up covered in hives and on prednisone for 2 weeks. Turns out I was allergic to the antibiotics and painkillers they had given me. -
I did some quick calculating and, based on my scale, I've lost a little over 4 lbs a week since my sleeve surgery in April. I'm very happy with that, but since I haven't had my 6-week follow up yet with my surgeon, I'm just curious if I'm still on target or slowing down a bit already? I have had at least one stall already, but I know that's to be expected. What's your experience?

Phase 2 post op
jenbugwi replied to Beachpalacetrain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't really have a clear liquids phase post-op, but I know I was sick of not having any texture or anything. I went from full liquids to purees. I remember my surgeon telling me that when I went to purees I could have applesauce and it would "be the best applesauce you've ever had." He wasn't kidding---so nice to have something other than liquid! At full liquids, you should be doing protein shakes, greek yogurt, maybe some thinned cream soups. You'll like having more savory options---I was so sick of always tasting sweet, which was weird because I have such a sweet tooth! Good luck! -
Purée stage/gulping/long to eat
jenbugwi replied to Astarisborn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had much trouble with it either. Talked with my Nut and she just advised to take at least 20 minutes for a meal and to make sure I'm getting my protein and water goals. I look at it as a blessing. I feel fortunate that I'm not having the struggles that others on the board have had. -
Protein and Carbs...Help!
jenbugwi replied to DesertGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I make instant sugar free pudding with Fairlife milk and protein powder added in. It adds a lot of protein for not so many carbs. I agree with the others who suggest to lay off the oatmeal, especially twice a day. -
What are your favorite Purée stage meals?
jenbugwi replied to baribetty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made cream of potato soup that tasted like heaven after all of the sweet shakes and stuff. I also ate cottage cheese and yogurt. I was only on purees for a week and moved to soft, where I've been for a while. -
I'm just shy of 5'9" and had once gotten myself down to 205 and was thrilled with that. I weighed about 180 in high school, so I'm shooting for somewhere in between. If I could get down to 180 and stay there, that would be great, but if that isn't in the cards I'd be ok with a few more pounds.

Same weight as pre-op
jenbugwi replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could have written your post word for word. I had very little pain and was able to sleep on my side after a night or two. Remember to take your time with eating---it's harder to be slow with liquids sometimes---and pay attention to what your body is doing and saying to you. My VSG was 4/12 and I'm down about 25 lbs and feeling great. It will happen! Best of luck to you! -
Initial meeting with nutritionist?
jenbugwi replied to FingersCrossed18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine talked with me a lot about what my food challenges were at the time (sweets, fast food, pop, etc.). She asked lots of questions about what I eat in terms of portions and things like that. We went over a lot of information about what will be expected post-surgery, then worked on a plan to help me get ready for that. We set food goals each time---more about weaning me off of the bad stuff and starting to develop good habits. I journaled my food intake daily, and she would review that at each appointment, then we'd set goals. During that time before surgery, I broke my habits of pop drinking, increased my water, almost completely eliminated fried foods, and drastically reduced the amount of sweets I ate. It really set me up for success! -
Tome off work - how much??
jenbugwi replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor requested 2 weeks for VSG, even though I have a desk job. I go back on Monday and will be traveling to a conference on Tuesday for the rest of the week, so that will be a good test for me! I took a day trip about 8 days out that required 6 hours in the car (memorial service). I was exhausted the next day, but having this additional week has me feeling ready to go. I've done some work from home this week and that has been fine. -
Here's a day for me: Breakfast: 1/4 cup malt-o-meal or oatmeal made with skim milk mid-morning: 1/2 protein shake lunch: cottage cheese with applesauce, refried beans with cheese, cream soup (1/4 cup) mid-afternoon: 1/2 protein shake dinner: chicken and mashed potatoes with a bit of gravy, tuna and a mushy vegetable (carrots, peas) if needed: greek yogurt, SF pudding with protein powder (1/4 cup) I got a sample meal plan from my nut and have been following that---it's been plenty of food, even though it seems like such a tiny amount! The protein shake helps me hit my protein goal.

Transition from full liquid to soft diet
jenbugwi replied to J@Alabama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tuna or chicken salad with lite mayo was suggested to me. I'm not at that stage yet, but I'm ready for it! I'm still on purees---last night I took some canned chicken breast and mashed it up with a bit of BBQ sauce. Added some peas and it was plenty! Yogurt is another option -
2nd visit with my surgeon and need some advice.
jenbugwi replied to J San's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, that is where I started. When I realized how many calories I was packing on with fast food lunches almost daily, even this many calories had an impact :-) Keep going on your bike. Your body isn't used to the activity and will need to adjust. You could also do some "lifting" with cans of food, etc. you might have around, or other light weights. Try leg lifts from your chair, etc. And, keep walking, even if it's just across the room. I'm sure you'll find that it will get easier! -

I started in a similar situation to yours, with a BMI over 50. Honestly, just starting to track my food made a big difference right off the bat. I used MyFitnessPal, and based on the information I put in, it had me on 2300 calories a day, and I was losing weight sticking to that. It then adjusts as you lose weight and record it. My nutritionist worked with me to just work on gradually making changes that would make life after surgery easier. First thing was to stop drinking pop, next was to make sure I had protein and produce at every meal, then I gradually moved on to limiting sweets and fried foods. I managed to lose almost 60 lbs. on my own before my VSG two weeks ago, and my recovery has been quite easy. I feel great, and I'm moving through the stages very well. Had my follow-up with the nutritionist yesterday and she says I'm right on track---lost 17 lbs. since the pre-op diet! Long story longer---work on steps to improve the quality of what you eat, then the reduction in quantities will come. I didn't really "miss" anything that way. Good luck to you! -
Good luck!

Good luck! My surgery was 11 days ago---it went well and I'm feeling good! Just listen to the doctors and nurses and follow directions. You'll do great!

1 Week Post Op-Frustrated
jenbugwi replied to Mnhcb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon specifically told me to not worry about the scale until my 2-week post op appointment. I'm assuming it's because of what you're describing. Don't be too hard on yourself---it will happen! -
Best of luck to you! It'll be there before you know it!

I haven't been on this forum long and mostly lurk, but I know there were a few who had surgery on 4/12. Mine went well and I got discharged late yesterday. It was great to sleep in my own bed! How is everyone doing who had their surgery this week?
