  1. All the new people! I love it!! I've added you all to our member list. I look forward to learning more about you all.
  2. I forgot to ask my surgeon what I should expect so I plan on doing so during my pre-op appointment. I have also heard the 60% of excess weight in 12-18 months. But I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that when I break it down. I want to lose 100lbs so my 60% is 60lbs. But 60lbs over one year is basically one pound a week. 1-2lbs lost a week is the expected average of any weight loss plan. So to spread that out over 18 months for a sleeve patient makes even less sense. Since we're eating drastically less than a "normal" I would have thought the weight loss would be more dramatic. I'm not expecting to lose all my weight in six months, but better than the average would be nice.
  3. I thought it was very interesting how the woman said near the end that everyone involved in the heist had died and then she died as well. Such a crazy story.
  4. This story is messed up! I loved it though, I wish it had been longer!!

    Peanut sauce?

True. But you probably made that assumption because you have knowledge of what healthy eating post-op is supposed to look like. It’s sad to see so many people on these forums that went through surgery with a program that spent little to no time on educating what food is healthy and why it’s healthy. For those whose program failed them but want to commit to a healthy lifestyle, they will go to a website like bariatric eating and trust that everything on that site is exactly as it should be. And they follow those recipes religiously but still wonder why they are losing weight or are we gaining weight. It just irritates me the amount of misinformation out there for people that truly need to relearn the right way to eat. Ok off my soapbox now. Lol

    Peanut sauce?

The emilybites one is good, all her food is. I love the Bariatric Eating site, but some of their recipes make no sense to me - using actual peanut butter full of sugar and low quality oils? Why eat that garbage when there are better alternatives for your new lifestyle??
  7. My annual physical was just blood work and an EEG. My PCP did my physical but my OBGYN does my Pap. No reason to have a Pap for WLS unless you’re already experiencing issue there.
  8. Yeah it’s tricky with a swimsuit because I can only really wear it next summer so I have to try and guess what size I’ll be. Lol

    No insurance

Yep I’m self pay. The plus side is we have very few hoops to jump through. 😀
  10. If you qualify for FMLA or STD then her vacation plans are none of your concern. Your employer is obligated to give you the time off. And no one can ask you to change the date of your medical needs just because it’s inconvenient for them. Ignore her, just do what you need to do and do NOT feel guilty about it.

    Hello New here ;) questions

That’s exactly why I’m leaving it as surgery and hard work. Both of those are true and quite frankly you are under no obligation to spill the beans just because someone else feels the need to be nosy. The lack of information is for them to figure out how to handle, not for you to do that. As you move through this process you’ll be able to recognize those you feel comfortable talking to and those you don’t. You’ll also start to feel more comfortable about the surgery itself as well. I know a lot of this is easy to for us to say and harder to do. But after I hit 40, I got to a point where I realized I was no longer going to feel obligated to do anything. I wish I would have lived my younger years that way. Lol

    Hello New here ;) questions

Welcome to the boards!! My sleeve surgery is Aug 13th! 😀. Is there a reason why you feel like you have to tell people? I am of the camp that it isn’t anyone’s business. At work I’ll be telling people I am having surgery. They don’t need to know anything more. For those that may ask how I lost the weight my response will be “hard work”. I have close friends that I have told but those in my outer circle won’t know.
  13. Man, I was so busy yesterday and today I haven’t had a chance to check back into the group. I missed all the action!! I’ll be back later to catch up!
  14. Ok here we go...The inaugural Golden Key Awards for surgeries completed in May 2018. Congrats to @debbie89, @Tierra T Tij, @numinousvessel, @kat6620, @Mrs. Rob, @PCOSSUCKS for reaching this next stage of their lives. Wishing you all much success!!
  15. Welcome to the forums! You'll find a lot great resources and support here. It's natural to be scared of this surgery, it's a major surgery and a major life change. But you've got all of us to lean on!! If your insurance plan/employer specifically excludes WLS, it doesn't matter what your BMI is. Mine also excludes it. It wouldn't matter if I had every co-morbidity under the sun, my employer won't pay for it so I have to pay for it myself.

    Scars

Good tips on using the oil in weight loss spots! I hadn’t even thought about that!

Weight watcher after 1 1/2 years

It might help if you’re at a calorie goal that syncs up with their points. Otherwise you’d be below their target consistently with no guidance on how to correct it for appropriate weight loss. I have a love hate relationship with WW. I know it works for a lot of people but I’ve never found long term success with it.

    Pre-Op Diet!!!

It’s a ticket you can add through your profile here, but you have to be on the computer site, the option doesn’t appear on mobile sites. I’m not in my computer at the moment otherwise I could tell you the exact steps. Maybe someone can chime in if they know until I get home. :)

    Surgery

Ditto to what Matt said - this is your decision and since you didn’t come hear asking for advice on the abortion piece then no one should be pushing their opinions on your personal decision. It sounds like you’ve made up your mind and done your diligence by checking with your surgeon. It’s perfectly ok to be worried and anxious over major life altering so just try not to stress about it. And know that we’re here whenever you need to vent.
  21. Woo hoo. Congrats on getting through the pre-survey obstacles!

    Pre-Op Diet!!!

One thing I plan to do during my pre-op is sleep in as long as possible and go to bed really early. Should be easy if I have zero energy from not eating. But I figure the less time I’m awake the less time I have to be hungry.

    Is this okay?

Probably a good alternative when you get sick of other protein sources. As others have said the sodium is high but if you used these as a sometimes food to mix it up you should be fine.

    Triggered

I think it’s a perfectly natural reaction to be emotional about how fragile life is. Take a deep breath, practice some self care and just know you’re doing the right thing by getting your life and health back.
  25. I haven’t tried them but I see a lot of people online raving about these Sugar Bear Vitamins.
