Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Feeling much better physically today then a mental/emotional bump in the road. Argued with my husband and it was a strange sensation to not eat my feelings. Instead I took a few laps around my kitchen island and drank some water sips. Crying hurts the big incision so I had to suck that up too. I am eager to get to a point where I can jog these feelings away. A title discouraged but I’ve survived worse! -

Day 5 and I’m feeling a lot better. I am getting more hydration and am relieved to hear that the heartburn is normal. It is also subsiding a bit. I am really focusing today on water and protein and walking. Info and encouragement from these forums has helped me with a lot of the stuff I’ve been struggling with. I am so grateful. Just got back from a walk. Gonna rest now! -
I am 4 days post op. Still trying to get the hang of sipping etc. practically speaking how long should I wait between sips to maximize my fluids? I have found that 2 tiny sips in a row works but then I don’t know when to do it again. I want to stay hydrated and establish some normalcy but I need a routine. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks everyone. I think I have been very anxious and hesitant and this gives me solid safe numbers to shoot for. I appreciate the advice! -

Ya I’m way short of that. I get heartburn easily. Maybe it’s just still early for me. -

Day 4 after surgery. Really struggling with heart burn and getting any fluids in. Trying to be more scheduled about it now but it’s tough. Just had about 4 teaspoons of thinned mashed potatoes. They tasted great but I could not even touch the recommended 1-2 tablespoons. I have lost another pound. I would say first week post op is harder than clear liquid preop. Mostly bc I’m dealing with this heartburn issue. -

9/5 here also. It’s been a rough few days. I was fine in the hospital. Mostly slept and walked when they told me to. Since I’ve been home I’ve had a lot more pain and I think I’m having heart burn??? I’ve never had it so I don’t know but it’s terrible. I have to crush my pills and everything gags me. I finally switched to trying popsicles last’s night and it was great. But halfway through s popsicle I hit my limit and I never EVER want to do that again. I am having pain in only 2 of my incisions and irritation in my throat bc it’s swollen from the tube. I’m better today than yesterday. But it’s going slower than I’d hoped. I’m not getting much in at all. -

Another thing to add. I did not gain weight in the hospital. Rather I lost a pound! -

I mentioned id give more details about my day of and intake. It was pretty much like any other surgery. I arrived 2 hours early and they gave me Zantac, nausea meds, I also requested the patch for nausea. They put IV in and that took a few tries. Then the nurse anesthetist came in and gave me my first “cocktail.” Almost immediately they were wheeling me back and I was waving to everyone as we rolled past. That’s the last thing I remember! I woke up in recovery and immediately felt the gas pain and pressure. I had my husband rub my back and kinda pound on it a little like burping a baby. Then I think I slept. I was moved to my private room after a short time in recovery and then I slept most of the rest of my time there except when someone came into my room or when I was walking laps. -

@mandy1013 I’d say just follow the rules. Also after my surgery when they brought me clear liquids they brought waaaay too much. So remember the rules you’ve already learned about sipping and tiny amounts. They brought me three medium sized Cups with broth, caffeinated tea and diluted apple juice. I told her to just keep the tea snd I sipped the other’s. You gotta follow the rules you know bc the people at the hospital may or may not get it. Take your tooth brush! Walk a lot! Don’t be nervous. You’ll have plenty of time for that afterwards lol. For instance I’m nervous to drink anything! -

Im doing pretty good! Got home a few hours ago. Still have the gas pain and incisions are tender. I’m afraid to drink anything bc I’m paranoid about drinking too much or not sipping correctly. -

I am in less pain today. The walking has helped and I was finally able To burp! 4 big burps already. Yes I have spirometer and it is difficult but it does help for sure. I just passed my leak test! So they should be giving me clear liquid something soon. Maybe a popsicle? I don’t know. They have been controlling pain with morphein so I slept most of the night unless someone was in my room. Has anyone heard from @frustr8 -

Y’all! I’m on day 6 of my clear liquids only preop diet. I’ve done fine so far and have lost 8 lbs! But today is a struggle! Well really just this afternoon. I’m wanting the weirdest things. Like things I never eat. Like my sons cheeze-its! What’s up with this?! I don’t want to cheat! -

A lot of stomach fat is deep inside mixed around the organs. You could be losing there and not seeing it on the outside yet. It’s amazing where we can pack the fat! Losing it around the organs is really good though as that visceral fat is really dangerous. Keep up the good work! -

Ok. Clear liquids day 2. I’m alive. Thank God for chicken broth and SF jello!!! And I’m getting stuff now! They’ll give me the hibacleanse at my appointment tomorrow. And they’re shipping me calf cuffs for circulation I guess. I also got more details on my procedure itinerary. I will stay one night with leak test the morning after and if I pass that and tolerate clear liquids I’m free to go. Yay! Info is empowering!
