elle8106 replied to ldeere2005's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Feb 27 and posted about getting cold feet kinda. I was freaking out the day before a little bit but it all went fine and I have had very little discomfort or anything. I'm sure everything will be fine for y'all just like it was for me! -
when did you return to work
elle8106 replied to travelgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Friday and could've went back Wed but I waited until the following Sat (I work weekends). I just sit at a computer terminal though and don't do anything physical. My port site was irritating just sitting in one position though. -

I have an ipod no the iphone. I use lose it because it's free, -
I had surgery last Friday. Everything has been going pretty well I think. My incisions are a little sore (mostly the big one) but I haven't had any major gas pains or anything. I am feeling very tired and it hurts to swallow water. It didnt hurt to swallow until yesterday. It doesn't hurt a lot but it feels a bit like swallowing after bad acid reflux or throwing up- very raw and I can feel it going down. I'm just wondering because it didnt feel this way the first few days.

I had to be there at 7:30 for 9:00 surgery. I was home by 3 pm. I did NOT want to stay overnight and was determined to get out asap. I could've stayed overnight if I wanted and would've if there had been any problems. I am pretty healthy and recover pretty quickly. I think it was easier than my gallbladder surgery 2 years ago. I did stay overnight for that one.

How long have you had YOUR band?
elle8106 replied to KikstersRT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since Friday! I don't know if that means today is day 2 or 3??? What a simple silly question and I forgot to ask. -
I know this is a huge thing and I am still determined but as te actual procedure draws closer (tomorrow now!) I am starting to question it more and more. I'm tossing and turning at night and even having dreams about it. I wonder if I should just cancel but then I start thinking about the 20 lbs I've lost (that took 6 monthss to lose!) and don't want it to stop there. Tell me this is normal??!!

Ok- I did it! In and out today and it wasn't as bad as I was thinking. I am sore but it's manageable. Tomorrow may be a little worse but so far so good. I had a great nurse at the end who was so positive about the whole thing which really helped my mood leaving too. She was a surgical nurse not part of the bariatric group, but she was great. I'm sure I'll be around to ask more questions but for now I am gonna try and sleep off the rest of this anesthesia. Thanks y'all!

I had blood tests, ekg and chest xray. It was easy for me but I don't have any other major health issues.

I am Tricare too and from seminar to surgery it has been a little over 2 months. My guess is the process is taking longer because of your doctor and your health history. I've tried weight loss before and not been too successful but I don't have any health issues. Aside from having my gallbladder out 2 years ago and being overweight, I am healthy. My cholesterol is good, my sugar levels are good and my blood pressure is perfect. I have no sleep apnea or anything else. My goal in doing this now is to stay healthy and not let the weight destroy my body. If I had health issues, I am sure I would be frustrated about it taking a long time, but I think I would be happy to know that the dr was working to make sure everything else was right and all the possibilities were looked at first.

Any February 2009 Bansters?
elle8106 replied to exumtam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm kinda new to this forum. I looked at it a few times over the last year and am back now. I started seriously thinking about wls since my best friend had it done in Aug. It's done wonders for her health and weight. I was concerned I wouldn't qualify because I haven't had a lifelong struggle with weight. It's only been the last few years that my weight has gotten completely out of control. To be fair I have been overweight for a number of years but it has gotten worse the last 3.- enough so that I qualified with no other issues. Anyway- I finally went to a seminar in Dec and am having the surgery on Fri Feb 27. I did all my pre-op stuff yesterday. Getting excited and anxious. I dropped 10 lbs since my first visit with the surgeon in Jan. The bad part of the surgery is I will have to stop with the new changes I've made (exercise and better eating) for the next few weeks! I am ready to get this going though and know I will be back up exercising soon. -
When can I go back to work- realistically?
elle8106 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm new here and the whole process has gone REALLY fast for me. I went to a seminar in Dec. and am having lapband Feb 27. I was trying to get in before my husband deploys and his date got moved up a bit. They got me in really quick. One of my biggest concerns right now is going back to work. I started my job 6 months ago and have 40 hours sick time. I was scheduled for a class on Thurs March 6 (day 6 post op) and a co-worker who had it a couple months ago suggested I cancel the class. She said she took 2 full weeks off. I don't think I'll need that much (and I don't have it anyway!). My job is VERY sedentary and the hardest thing I do is lift my backpack and carry my purse and lunch in to work. Thanks for any advice!
