Welcome Mike, I was banded on June 3rd by Dr. Cerabona just like lipstix64 I live in Westchester County. I have to say this was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am down 50 lbs and have 30 more to reach goal. I was as scared as everyone else before surgery. Now that it has been 5 months, I should have done this years ago. I go on this sight nightly for my daily support. This sight is so informative I am glad I have this group for continued support. Good Luck

2009 - New York City Banded Together-Lapband Talk National Event
leepizz replied to CoachCher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes i am interested in attending. Will you be having any speakers for the young at heart?...... My daughter and I both had it done and she is 17. I would love for a group speaker for the teenager-mid 20 year olds. It is hard to find a support group for them. Also, we would love it in NYC. We would only come to the Saturday conference due to work and school. Please keep us inform on cost etc -

I have hypothyroidism. I have been struggling with my weight since my 20's when I ended up with this diease. Every diet was a struggle. Since my surgery on 6/3 i have lost 20 lbs! I am very excited with the lost. I hope it will continue!

Did hypothyroidism cause you to be denied?
leepizz replied to annecolorgreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had hypothyroid since my early 20's. I have been on synthyroid since I was diagnosed. Right before my surgery which was 6/3 I had to go to the endoronologist from the surgeon's check off list. and my thyroid TSH was higher and the endocronolgist wanted to up my synthyroid. I was afraid to change my meds until after my surgery. My reg. MD has been regulating my thyroid for years and I will check with him in another month. I wasn't denied for having hypothyroid you need to make sure you have your primary care dr. write a letter stating that you have tried everything to lose weight...pills, WW, Nutrasystem, DR. Diet. etc. Good luck, I am sure that everyting will work out! -
Anyone know a good Dr in Westchester, NY?
leepizz replied to lapbandbarb's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi, I was banded on 6/3 by Dr. Tom Cerabona from Westchester Medical Center. He is he chief of Bariatric Surgery. He was wonderful. His office is right in the medical building near the Medical Center. His office staff treats you like you are VIP. Every 2 weeks there is a support group you can attend at 6pm for $10. There is one this Thursday. Dr. Cerabona also did my 16 1/2 yr old daughter on 7/8. We are both doing this journey together. When you find out how to change your ticker please let me know. I am getting very fustrated. Maybe I will see you at a support group. Lisa -
I was banded the same day. I had my post op today and he told me to come back in 2 weeks. I have an appointment on 7/9. So I guess that is 5 weeks.

My surgeon sells ISOPURE WHEY Protein Shake. I have forund this to be on of the best! I love the Chocolate and I also like the Vanilla. You can pick it up at the Vitamin Shoppe. Good Luck, It also comes in other flavors like punch, cookies and cream. Haven't tried them yet!

Don't worry, I felt the same way about my surgery on 6/3. I to also never had surgery before. I told the dr. and they gave me some nice meds in my IV I don't even remember going under. But when i came out of it the OR nurse said do you remember what your last converstation was. I said sure i did i was talking about my tag sale weekend that I just completed. She said no you were talking about your gag reflex that I have. and don't out that mask on me or the tube down my throat I will gag!!!!! They were all laughing at me since that was my biggest fear and I was out in 2 seconds. Of course I didn't gag and I wasn't even sore. You will do fine! My prayers are will you. Before you know it, you will be finished and oon the new band wagon!

I don't but can you give me the link to the ones you listen to. Thanks, lisa

Don't feel bad! I am two weeks post up and i also cheated with a half of slice of pita bread!!!!! I was starving and wanted a quick fix. Boy i learned my lesson. I chewed soooo fast of course my old habits didn't leave me on how to not chew fast and swallow whole. I was soooo sick. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to throw up but couldn't. this feeling was with me for about 1 1/2 hours. The pain was like nothing I every felt before. I tried to drink water but that came up with some of the bread. I was so upset with myself to the point I was getting myself worked up to being a failure again and harming myself and the band. Thank goodness my 17 yr old daughter didn't see this. She is getting banded on 7/8 and as of today my whole experience has been wonderful!!!!! i hope by know your pain has passed! -
I went back to work today after being off since 6/3. I could have went in earlier but I wanted to make sure that I was going to be okay during this horrible humid, hot weather we had last week. Since I am a teacher this was a very hard time to take but I needed to to it now since I will be running a half day camp once school is let out for six weeks this summer. My daughter is also going to have her banded on 7/8. My class was very excited to have me back. Alot more of my collegues knew I was banded than I wanted to know. I should have kept my mouth shut. I only told my lunch mates but this didin't stay at the table. I heard that some of these teachers were jealous and bitching that I took the time off. It is none of their business!!!!!! Most of them were happy to see me and said I look great. I feel grea for doing ths life change and will contiue the journey!t and had lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks! After lunch on of my students said that i look different, I told him that I put up my hair. He said no it is not that , I think you lost weight!!!!!!! That made my day that my students notices the change in me! I am happy to be back but i have alot of work to do to get the end of the school year to a close. Thank goodness I have 5th graders that love to help the teacher! I did feel hungry today during lunch for the first time since surgery. Once I smelled the cafeteria food, (which is absolutely gross) I was straving! What a head game that is to crave that food. I went out ang got grits. I had to start muchie stage a day early. Tomorrow will be an easier day. Good luck to all that are going back to work. The only regret I have is having work know what I did. I am still on cloud 9 and will contiue the journey strong.

leepizz replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on June 3rd. I am also dreading this post-op diet for another 9 days! I am on protein shakes, jello, ice pops, yogurt and cream soups. I was dreading another can of creamed soup until I went to the local Health food store and bought me some great soups that look delicious, I hope the taste just as good as they look. We can get through this together. -

Two days Post-op (semi miserable)
leepizz replied to YoungNy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on the third have have lost 7 lbs as of today. I also need to stay on liquids for another 10 days. I can have farina, yogurt, protein shake and cream soups and of course jello and Ice pops. The thought of eating anythiong hot today is making me ill. It is so humid and hot in NY I hate the heat to begin with. I am going to have my 2nd protein shake for dinner. I really don't like putting 2 scoops of protein to 10oz of milk. Too thick. I hope every one that was banded this week is doing fine. I feel the best today. The soreness is only around my port. Last night I even slept on my side! I can't wait for the day I can sleep on my stomach. Can anyone give advise on my next 10 days of liquids. I am okay with a week but I woulod have loved to add some soft food in to my boring diet. I know I will stick to it but it is really hard. -
Wow, I can't believe I am finally banded. Yesterday went with out a problem. I got to the hospital at 6am. My husband was with me, while my three teenagers were still sleeping and getting themselves up to go to school, Of course that was on my mind. I went into the OR at 7:30 and was in recovery at 9AM. I woke up with out any pain, I am sure that was from the IV. My recovery room nurse was wonderful, she was with me the entire time. I told the doctor that I want to go home especially since my kids wanted to see me when they got home from school. I went to the bathroom on the the bed pan which was very interesting since this was my first surgery in my life. By 1:00 I was getting discharged from recovery but they wouldn't send me to the Ambulatory since they said the nurse aren't trained in this procedure for discharging a lapband patient. Are they kidding me.....So I had to be sent to the floor for 2 hours where I had to walk and drink water with absolutely no problem. Again I went to the bathroom. I finally saw the resident Dr. Chris and told him to sign me out I WANT TO GO HOME!!!!!! I was home by 4:30:thumbup: and had some more sips of water. The gas wasn't bad at all, I walked alot,Went to sleep and tookpain med at 2AM. Today I feel wonderful except for a sore stomach like I did 100 situps last night. I drank my protein shake and water and felt full, every 20 mins with a timer to remind me to drink. I am sooo happy that I did this, My 17 yr old daughter is going on 7/8 for her band and I am glad she is seeing how great I am doing. She is excited to have this done. She will also get theVIP treatment like I did since my friend is the OR manager Nurse in the hospital. She took care of me like I was a very special person, the best of the best and I can't ask for anything better!

Jazzy Junes 2008...What do you do? Where are you from?
leepizz replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To all my fellow educators and new friends Hello!!!! My name is Lisa and I live in Westchester County, New York. I am 46 years old. I have a very sweet and loving husband who I have been married to for almost 17 yrs. and 3 beautiful teenagers (Daughter 16.5 yrs old and getting banded on 7/8, 2 sons almost 15 & 14). My life has been a very crazy one since having my 3 kids close in age. Of course not taking time out for me the weight just kept on creeping up. Well in less than a week I will start my new life. I am very anxious due the the fact that I am leaving my classroom for the week (hopefully). I am a 5th grade teacher that is in the middle of hatching 30 duck eggs tomorrow and Thursday. This project is giving alot of anxiety besides my surgery on 6/3. I feel I am spreading myself too thin. But I know that this is the right thing for me to do at this point. If I waited to the end of the month than my daughter would hve had her surgery and that would be too much for me to handle. Right when school lets out I will be running a 1/2 day camp for the town. I can at least say that my principal is very supported with the time i am taking off. She told me that I have been an influence to her since she thought about getting banded a year ago. Now after being sick for a week with HP HCHL, she is now moving forward and she would like to be done in August. I am happy to be and inspiration to her. Besides my daughter having it done I will have th support at work! Good Luck and my prayers are with all the JUNIES! -
My Daughter needs Lap Band Surgery!!!
leepizz replied to alenzini's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter is also 16.5 and is getting lapbanded on 7/8 she is 120 lbs overweight. We have spend thousands of dollars for 2 summers and a sleep away camp in NY. Only for her to lose weight and gain it back plus. Gym memberships, diets, personnal trainers. I feel your pain. I am also going to get banded next tuesday. I don't need it as much as she does but I have struggled all my adult life being overweight. I need to lose about 80lbs. I am taking this new life with her so we can both get healthy. I hope you find a dr. I found a wonderful one in NY. I am scared and anxious for this to happen but the reality has hit hard for daughter this year and she will start the school year off with some weight loss from the summer. -
I am also not telling my relatives, only my mom, dad, of course my husband and children. I feel if my brothers know they will be very judgemental especially my younger brother who also so get a lap band. He doesn't see anything wrong with himself except for others. At work I told my 2 closes friends so they can help me stay on track. Since I also feel it is a private matteer. I am going to tell the rest I am going out for gall bladder also. As for my friends, I told a few. I feel that I am not being honest but like you i am going to wait until I lose weight and then maybe I will tell them. It was very hard to go to my pool club today But I am proud of myself and followed what I need to do for the diet. I didn't even have a glass of wine or Snacks, or dessert! I am very proud of myself. PS My daughter who is 16 1/2 is also going to have the surgery done on 7/8. We are taling this journey together to get healthier. She needs this more than me. I was very surprise that my insurance is paying for this.

Realization of what's about to take place!!!
leepizz replied to jkpenny376's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am being banded on 6/3 and the realization is really hitting home. I have to say I am a basket case also. I know I wasn't suppose to have any alcohol in my last 2 weeks but tonight I went out and had 3 cosmos. I feel really bad but I needed them to. Why????? I know that I am doing the right thing but I am truly scared about this surgery. I needed to feel that I can let myself go one more time before my new life. Am I going to be okay and still get the 1 lb weight gain off? I will but it will be alot of work for me as of tomorrow. Now I am down to the wire. I will be starting full liquids in a week and clear liquids the day before the surgery. I guess I will have to eat alot of chicken and salad starting tomorrow! I am glad I have the support of this group. Since no one knows what we are going through unless you are getting banded. -
Hi Please change me to 6/3 Thanks!

So emotional and can't stop crying...
leepizz replied to mrsgriffin2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I am having my surgery on 6/3. Today was an emotional roller coaster. I went for my pre-op admit. testing which went by very quickly less than 1 1/2 hours. Here I am at the hospital and I see a friend that I haven't seen in yrs. that works there, she of wants to know why am I here. I tell her that I am fine, yeah right! I finally told her what I was going for and she thought I was crazy!!! Maybe I am. I am also doing this for my daughter who is 16 1/2 and having her surgery on 7/8. We are going to take this new journey together. I was fine after the testing but......Going for the Pre-op class put me into a reality check! I was very nervous and anxious with all the things I should have been doing since Tuesday. My hubby says he is supportive but never asks me anything. He will have a reality check this summer when both my daughter and I are on liquids etc! People really don't know what we are getting ready for unless they follow us to appointments and support groups. Now I am getting comments like are you sure you want to do this, you are not fat....well at 228 lbs i wouldn't call that being average or thin! -
I have a single serve Hamilton Beach mixer. It even comes with a lid to go. I paid $20 at Walmart
