Gaining weight - experience of a decade
JacquelineC replied to Gess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too have gained weight and I don’t know why. I can still only eat a little bit. I do drink wine every now and then but I have no idea what it is. I’m 72 years old so I don’t know if it’s got something to do with metabolism or what. I was 198 and I got down to 110 but felt good at 117 and I’ve slowly gotten up to 140. Everybody says I look good but I know that when if I the 20 pounds less I felt much better anyway there’s nothing I can do about it. I’ve tried everything. It’s been six years since I had my surgery. -
Here in the US, if you are self pay, you can get it done pretty quickly . With insurance paying, for me it was a 6 month process . Private pay you don’t have to meet a lot of the criteria that you do with insurance. Some self pay go to Mexico to have the surgery, much cheaper there.

I feel like I have no familial support for my surgery.

How old are you? you have to do what is best for you. You will always have judgy and negative people in your life. You have to either ignore them or cut them out of your life. It is the only way I have stayed sane with my family members. -

The changes we don't talk about
JacquelineC replied to Ylime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost 3 years out. I am feeling the best I have felt in many years. My only problem in life is my dear hubby of 49 years passed a year ago. My doc said to be careful, after a loss people tend to stress eat. Not me. Hang in there , life is what you make it. I will admit to buying cute clothes , I justify it with he would have wanted me to look nice. His motto was if you look good, you feel good! So true! -
Undecided - Newbie - figuring my way around

I had the sleeve, I did not want my intestines rerouted. Usually the surgeon knows what is best for you according to your case, ie: gurd etc. -
I was 200

I had to be 35 BMI or they wouldn’t do me. Got down to 110, not too thin!

Do you guys feel normal? Long Term Sleevers
JacquelineC replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am one year and 4 months post op sleeve. It was rough the first few months, but now I am doing great. Never had heart burn or any complications. I still cannot eat much, which is just fine with me! I was 66 when I had surgery. Best thing I have EVER done for myself!!! Went from 200 to 116, now I even wear bikinis!!! I have so much energy! I am a cheap date now, my husband orders and I have some off his plate. Every day is a gift !! Enjoy life to the fullest!!! -
I also could not go below 35 BMI or I would be canceled day of Surgery. I did not have to do any weight loss 2 weeks before surgery. I asked the lady in charge of program if I was going to be weighed that morning naked. She said no, wear your heaviest boots and coat! After I was checked in and had IV running, nurse looked at BMI and said this is where I would be cancelled if it wasn’t 35. Had the surgery !!!

This chart is about averages. I am one year out exactly and have lost 100% of my weight! Was 200, now 122. I love this tool, but just remember, it is a tool! You have to stay compliant!

Kids' rate at Fogo de Chao
JacquelineC replied to abefroman329's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was given a card by my surgeons office and also from the hospital where I had the surgery. It says your name and that you have had WLS and that you cannot eat much. It says to let you order from the kids menu. They did tell me that not every restaurant will honor it. The kids menu is a lot of carbs! I have never had a problem using it. Sometimes I ask to speak to the manager if the waiter doesn’t understand what I am talking about. I am a year out. Now my husband orders a plate, he eats 3/4 and I eat 1/4. Sometimes I just order an appetizer. I still eat under a cup. I love my new life!!!! -
Feeling regretful, help
JacquelineC replied to cher248's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am 10 days post op. I am having trouble getting in all my protein and water also. I was doing the chewable vitamins twice a day, now they are so tart that I gag. I ordered the vitamin patches to get me through this. So do your best and try things that work for you. Unsweetened jello and popsicles are my best friends right now. Hang in there , it does get better!👍 -
Question for people currently on post op liquid phase
JacquelineC replied to BuzzVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am having trouble with protein also. I bought 2 weeks worth from docs office , find I cannot stomach the taste of it. Bought Premier Protein from Costco, 30 grams of protein per shake. I got chocolate, that is at least drinkable. On the BM subject, I am going regular from day 6. Everyone is different. Good luck! -
I did not have endoscopy, every patient is different .
-
I was given the patch, worked great. Doc did not tell me not to touch it! If you touch it and then touch your eye, it will burn. Good luck!
-
All the Insurance’s are different. I am on Medicare . They cover, but you have to do 6 monthly visits to your general practioner, see phycologist once, see nutritionist, go to support groups. Then my doc had a program fee besides, which included his nutritionist, the 10 days of food packages before the surgery , the vitamins, the B12 also. This is a very involved process ! I am 1 week out and it is a challenge! My problem is that I bought the two weeks post op packages from docs office , I cannot stomach them because sweet stuff makes me gag! So really look into everything carefully. Good luck!

Fear of changing relationship with best friend
JacquelineC replied to quartles's topic in The Lounge
Years ago when I had lost 60 lbs, a good friend co-worker came up to me (who was heavy) and said we could no longer be friends. I thought that was strange, I guess we weren’t really good friends after all! I say your friends are your friends, no matter what! -
I am at the hell week stage, 5 days post op, miserable! Can’t wait to turn the corner!
