    Lap-Band for non obese?

I would say, extremely unlikely. It would be like sending someone to intensive rehab for a non existant drug problem. Perhaps if you are that concerned with gaining weight, eat healthy and excercise:) There is no quick fix.
  2. I had a fill almost 2 weeks ago and things have been going alot better for me. Today I have been so busy and had no appetite and now its 7 pm and I still havent eaten anything. Is this ok? I really dont feel like eating. I still have alot of weight to losem it;s not like im gonna dissapear overnight. I'm just wondering, is it ok to not eat anything in a whole day? Ofcourse I;m not going to stop eating alltogether (knowing me impossible), but going against the general stream of the general population's ideas of eating (ie. you must eat breakfast which i know alot of bandsters including me dont ever do and my doctor advises not to eat breakfast). So should i force myself to atleast eat something or is it ok to skip a day once in a while?
  3. Just an update - in november i posted that my band got looser around the start of my pregnancy. Well not long after that - a few weeks - it got so tight i had to go for a partial unfill - i had a hard time getting small amounts of fluid down. I was more worried about staying hydrated than anything else. Anyway, it is now almost 7 months later, i havent been back for another unfill or fill, but I still have restriction, Just enough I think. However, some days are definately tighter than others, and mornings have always been tighter for me. One day I can manage to eat alot more than on other days. Very strange but it's been all good. My weight gain has been good, just enough, and baby is measuring normal and I feel good - havent had problems with blood pressure or gestational diabetes and I think chances are i would have if I had no restriction.
  4. i agree crztrchr - i fell pregnant 8 months after being banded (unexpectedly) and a colleague of mine fell pregnant only a short few months after being banded and she had been TTC for a long time. So many bandsters seem to have fallen pregnant without even trying:P
  5. hi and congratulations!! I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant with my first. I have had very mild port pain earlier in the pregnancy (i cant exactly remember when - probably at around 20 weeks). It wasnt so much painful as it was a bit uncomfortable. But it only lasted for a short while. Now that i am in my third trimester i have had no problems with the port whatsoever. A few midwife's have felt the port and thought it was baby's foot, LOL! Goodluck and dont be scared! I'm sure you will be just fine.
  6. i got pregnant exactly 7 months after i got banded. it was quite a shock and i am now 4 and a half months along. All well so far, but i am starting to feel pretty huge. i cannot wait til after the baby is born to get to my goal! Anyway, i only had a partial unfill. I can eat almost anything (i finished a whole thin crust pizza tonight) however, i still have to eat slow, chew properly, otherwise i get sick. and there are certain foods i definately struggle with (steak and bread for instance). However, i can eat huge salads and lots of healthy food so im happy with that. at first it felt like the band got tighter (my unfill was about 3 months ago) but now i can definately feel it is looser. I am glad i didnt get a complete unfill though, because i am eating slow and not shoveling food down like i would have in another case. I am also glad that the band has taught me to dish up smaller serves and most of the time i eat off a small plate and i leave food on my plate. which i would have never done. so even though i can eat more,im in the habit of thinking smaller. I havent gained much weight and im happy about that. anyway, goodluck i hope that helps. and congrats!!!!!!!!!!
  7. wow im so glad i found this thread. I just found out i am pregnant 2 days ago! Unexpected for me, a bit of a shock but im delighted. However, unlike most of you my band has actually been looser, and it just happened overnight, about a week ago, before i knew i was pregnant. I just woke up with a ravishing appetite (obviously due to the pregnancy), started eating (healthily!) and found i could eat alot more than the day before (or the last 6 months for that matter!). For a few days i just ate huge salads with lean proteins as i usually do but much more! its been great. I wasnt sure whether i was gonna need an unfill, but i guess not!
  8. hey guys, here's my experience: I have been banded for almost 6 months and have been to restaurants in this time probably a dozen times. I always try and get a table near the toilets so that incase i feel sick im close by (this has happened obviously, so being close to the toilets helps. Also, if you cant sit close, get up the moment u feel like u might just get sick - ive had some false alarms but rather that than umm..sick in public!!) Secondly, most places are happy to make any full size meal an entree size, just ask! or ask for "half portion" - i even do this when i get a take away once in a while. I have never been refused!! And they always adjust the price accordingly. Thirdly, I order "safe" food. As others have said, Soups, and laksa is yummy and safe. I almost always have grilled fish and veg/mash - always safe, and healthy to boot. I have also had some glorious curries and stews - the meat is usually very tender and easy to chew. Salads - especially caesar salad - always goes down well for me, as does saucy pastas and the like. Believe it or not - my partner and I went to the local buffet last night. It was my second time there since being banded and i had nooo problems at all. I actually find the buffet the easiest place to eat , because i can choose what i want and how much!! I started off with a small bowl of soup - i couldnt finish it, but i was satisfied. I then got a plate with some lovely seafood, salad, tender meats etc and ate slowly. I couldnt finish it - but i got to taste everything and it was yum and i was satisfied. I knew my limit and then i proceeded to have a bit of dessert too. I wouldnt eat that much usually, but in a way i guess i didnt eat that much. In my brain i did though, and i was totally satisfied and got my $20's worth. The band is a tool but learning that you dont have to eat everything or feel bad for "wasting" is priceless. You can be satisfied!!
  9. hey guys, i was banded almost 5 months ago, and i have had three fills. The last one was about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Although i am happy with the portion sizes i now eat, and do not feel i am missing out (dont have much of an appetite anyway) i do find it extremely hard to drink 2 litres a of fluid a day. In the mornings i am simply too tight to drink more than a few small sips. Some days are better than others, and i hate to admit it, but there have been a few days where i probably drank no more than 400 ml of fluid. I know this is not good at all and im feeling it. i am so thirsty and tired even though ive had adequate sleep. I just cannot get fluid down me. Please help. summer is coming up here in australia and i dont want to faint of dehydration. i try and sip slowly during the day but even when doing this my sips are so tiny i dont get much down, and if i try and go any quicker it all comes back up. is my band too tight?

    Did you tell people?

my plans were to tell no one, except for my parents who helped pay for the surgery (and are very supportive) and their neighbour (who also got it done) and my boyfriend. I ended up telling a housemate of mine, who told a few other people (aaarg) and i had to tell my boss, and a co-worker, and another co-worker, and my bf's friend, and his gf, and another couple of guy friends, and my sister, and a couple of my msn buddies...LOL!! so yeah, alot of people know....but not everyone. i havent told extended family and im not planning to tell them, i also havent told alot of family friends and i wont either.

    Breakfast a no go

i cant eat in the mornings at all. i even find drinking Water very difficult. However, I had a cup of tea this morning and it went down fine. I havent drinken tea in aaaages, perhaps its the temperature of the drink ? Not sure. I dont really drink Hot drinks often. Will have a cuppa again in the morning and see if it goes down alright. I was wondering if it was normal...atleast now i know it is.

    I miss....

mmm bread. I miss scoffing a freshly baked subway sandwich with lots of sauce and double meat. he he. I can eat a few bits of bread. Only about 1/6th a slice of bread. I never really was a big fan of bread though but i must say, the smell of fresh bread right now is a means to torture me. Im at the stage where Im off alot of food now - i think its because Ive spewed from almost everything at some point - so now my brain associates it with being sick and its just not appealing. I went to woolies yesterday to do the groceries with my bf - who has one hell of an appetite - anyway - I found the only thing i wanted was Soup, and salad veggies and yoghurt. The things that dont make me sick and are good for me. I just dont want anything else. And it was good, said the Lord!
  13. today i went to k mart with my boyfriend - he had to go buy a belt. I just strolled along and I saw some of the clothes on sale - i have never been able to shop in the "normal" sized section - always been stuck with the boring plus sized section. Anyway, my clothes have been very loose of late and I thought I'd fit a few things and lo and behold i fit into a size 18!! I couldnt believe it. I ended up buying 6 items....but they were all on special so its ok:) Seriously, to anyone who is considering getting the surgery done, no supersized portion can taste as good as it feels to fit into a size 18 for the first time like ever!!!! I dont actually know how much ive lost to date as i dont own scales - by choice (it was 7.5 a few weeks ago) Going for my 2nd fill in a week - will know then HEE HEE:D

    Perth people, where are you?

Its only natural to be nervous but it's not worth it. I remember the night before the op I didnt sleep, and on the way to the hospital I cried! And I dont cry easily. If I look back now though, I am laughing at myself. It was so simple and just not worth losing sleep or crying about.

    Perth people, where are you?

i got my first fill yesterday. it was over 5 weeks post op because i had to change my date. I was in bandster hell, i had no restriction, and i still drank my wine, but regardless of that dr watson weighed me and i had lost 7.5 kg! After the op and before my fill i didnt once get sick, even though i ate too much too fast at times. Well this morning i got sick for the first time - it was not fun at the time - but im so glad to have that restriction... Everyone says im looking good, and that only after 7.5 kg! I cant imagine what the reaction is gonna be when i reach my goal weight. Some family and friends wont have seen me since last christmas when they see me again next christmas...Its a great feeling knowing youre not getting fatter any more, only skinnier! YAY:biggrin::thumbup::biggrin:

    Perth people, where are you?

I did end up finding some info doctor watson gave me, i totally forgot about it because he gave it to me on my initial consultation which was 6 weeks ago. anyway, i havent done anything i shouldnt, today I had some thin potato and leek soup, optifast, very small amount of weight watchers custard. tomorrow i will try a yoghurt - actually really looking forward to it! i was surprised to not have stitches - i had never even heard of this miracle wound glue, but I think it;s just fab - anyone else? If you havent heard of it, Instead of stitching you up there is this layer of plastic looking clear glue over the incisions and it falls off by itself after about 5 days!! amazing. Maybe im living under a rock:tongue2: I am enjoying being able to sleep a bit more on my sides - my back has been so numb these few days as i never sleep on my back. its also nice being able to breathe in more and more each day, as the first three days it was too painful to take deep breaths. Oh the joy of appreciating the little things we take for granted:P geez i have to say, the painkillers he gave me, i think its called endone, theyre strong! I took 2 of them on day 2 and i was out of it lol. Like I was a bit stoned. I now only take 1 at a time 2 is wayyy too strong. the panadol definately helps aswell. I cant wait to feel no pain so I can start with excercising. I would like to do yoga, swimming and powerwalking on the beach. Yay for new lifestyle:P

    Perth people, where are you?

hey everyone....im 22 and got banded by dr watson on wednesday. Its been three days now and i feel alot better. I am so glad i got it done by dr watson, as everyone else says, he is excellent, and murdoch hospital was lovely in my experience, the nurse's were great and the room i had was wonderful (i got a private room in the end even though i ticked "shared" on my form cause i knew it would be cheaper - but they only had a private room available and i enjoyed a bit of privacy) Day 1 i was sleepy and so so sore Day 2 a bit more awake and less sore And now its the morning of day 3 and i feel alot less sore especially when sitting down or lying down but walking around i definately feel a pull in my stomach and i have to take it slow. Day one i only had Water, I couldnt get the broth down. Day 2 i had some broth and by dinner an Optifast shake and another one for supper - my body was definately craving *something* and I had no pain drinking the optifast infact i felt alot better after it. This morning i had about two tablespoons jelly. No pain or anything, felt much better after eating a bit. I'm still a bit confused as to what im supposed to be drinking - i know clear fluids but hell, can i really live on broths only for a few weeks? Do you guys think it is ok to have optifast shakes and small amounts of jelly so soon after the op? When did the rest of you start on the mushed veggies etc? Thanks everyone. I wish they could have sent me home with a list of do's and don'ts!
