I usually use Pace chunky mild salsa. Everyone is really different with what they tolerate, but the tomatoes don't bother me. I have no heart burn at all and am not on any antacids. Wish the same for you!

Ooo! Ash - What do you marinate the chicken brussel sprouts tomato skewers in? Sounds yummy!

Delicious, Fast, Nutritious meals!

Nice for busy days. Does it work to reheat it? I am thinking of lazy work lunches. If I cook and add meat, will it get weird if I microwave again? I guess it won't matter, if they are good my kids and husband will eat it all. Like locusts them 3 😉 -
I hear you, I'm not a yogurt fan either. But I have found a few ways to use Greek yogurt. I mix plain Greek yogurt with salsa for a rich creamy dip. You can add avacado as well and make it really rich. This is good for soft/moist foods stage too. I would chop chicken, mix with dip. Plain Greek yogurt is also good to replace mayo for tuna and chicken salad. Replaces sour cream as well. I also use vanilla Greek yogurt and mix in a little fruit for flavor, it's like dessert! Get creative, try to modify things you like to incorporate Greek yogurt. We all love our own creations! But seriously, plain Greek yogurt and salsa is an amazing combo!

What is a realistic WL monthly target?
Sleeved36 replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Non scale victories Everyone posts all the wonderful ways thier lives have improved since surgery. Good read! -
My husband was hesitantly supportive, but easily got on board after he learned more about it. He was also worried about how much it would change our lives. His biggest fear is that I would stop cooking. (I am a good cook, part of what got me fat) He didn't want healthy changes to be forced on him either. A few weeks later he decided that it wouldn't be so bad if we got healthier together, as long as I promised to keep making chicken pot pie for him. Maybe your wife needs time to process. He doesn't have a weight problem so didn't understand until he read the research about keeping weight off. If your wife doesn't have a weight problem she may not understand that THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. Skinny folk always think it is as simple as eating a little less until they educate themselves. There could be other reasons too, you need to communicate with her.

What is a realistic WL monthly target?
Sleeved36 replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone is right, there is no exact answer. If you follow your surgeon's plan, work with the nutritionist, and exercise you will lose weight and inches. And gain so much more! Checkout the NSV thread, it is my favorite -
It takes a lot of work to stay hydrated bc you have to take constant sips. You will no longer be able to gulp/guzzle down water. I don't know your exact situation, but I wouldn't want to be freshly postop in the summer heat.

It has been almost 8 weeks since I had gastric sleeve surgery. Everything has been great, tolerating all foods and meeting my protein and fluid goals. All of a sudden 3 days ago I started having stomach pain, feels just like right after surgery. I can only take small sips, hurts to eat any food. I am still getting my protein through shakes. My surgeon took me off prilosec bc everything has been fine, but I started retaking it as soon as this began. Anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions?
-
Thanks for asking! It feels a little bit better today. I think I might have been eating too many salads? Too many fresh veggies? I am feeling much more restriction now. Just like right after surgery. So I am taking it easy and just having protein shakes and soft foods in small amounts. Oh yeah, and lots of water bc it is so freaking hot! No ER trip for me. I changed jobs and this is the 1 week I don't have insurance. 😕

school uniform fitting struggle
Sleeved36 replied to Courtney95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would buy one size down from your current size. But that's it. Read through the threads about measurements/sizes. You can't guarantee that you will lose places that change your size a lot. For many people the belly is the last to go. This has been true for me. I have lost the most in my legs. I also lost my "muffin top", so the same size fits loosely. I think the bigger problem here is that nursing schools still require uniforms 🤔 When I went to nursing school (10 yrs ago) we all just had to wear the same color scrubs. -
I had a miscarriage between my kids and also did not appreciate people asking when I was going to have another. WTF am I supposed to say? "I tried, but it died and had to be surgically removed. Thanks for asking"

It is hard to give people the benefit of the doubt when they are prying into your personal business. My husband and I married young and chose to wait 10 years b4 having children. People said lots of stupid things to me over the years prying about fertility issues and my desire to have children. Examples: I couldn't want kids that bad since I didn't have them right away. And since I didnt want them I was going to be a bad mother. I was getting too old and needed to have kids soon. This was said to me at 27. (had 1st at 32 and 2nd at 35, not exactly ancient) Then the million questions about who had failing parts, was it my uterus or my husband's balls? This got old enough that I would pretend to get emotional and tell people it was probably never going to happen for me. This definately worked, succeeded in making them think twice about asking me or anyone else. I pick and choose who I tell about my surgery. Thankfully some of my more intrusive relatives live far away. The real bonus is none of them saw me at my high weight, so crossing my fingers that my look won't be a shock to them. Oh, and I love my kids. Waiting to have them allowed us additional financial security and life experiences.

WOW! Just stumbled on to this thread. I do think it is a little tone deaf to offer prayers to someone you don't know. Saying that you will pray for someone assumes that they have the same belief system as you. A public semi-annonamous online community isn't the setting for offering prayers. It seems a little trite when you don't know their real name. This is an open forum where people of all beliefs should feel comfortable. I comfort people of all different religions as part of my job, ICU RN. I would NEVER offer prayers unless I was sure they wanted it. I ask every family if they would like someone from spiritual care, yes or no question either answer is fine. Our spiritual care department doesn't even force prayer on people. Instead, they ask how they can be supportive. Everyone deserves respect and to be met in their time of need with whatever comforts them.

I know this may seem dumb....
Sleeved36 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on being able to do your protien and water. Every gym I have been to will walk you through the machines and give you 1 free session with a trainer. Use that as a starting point, then get a personal trainer later to fine tune/change up your routine. Don't be intimidated. No one should ever make you feel bad about getting healthy and taking care of yourself. -
Is this a stall or my set point weight?

Breastfeeding right after surgery?
Sleeved36 replied to MizzNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most meds are safe while nursing, bring it up with your team. They should know your situation beforehand bc they can choose safer medications to give you. This could allow you to not have to dump at all. Example: for nausea zofran is better than phenergan if you are nursing. Definately bring your pump. Hospitals have them, but not outside of OB. They could track one down for you, but if the nurses are busy it could take a long time. Some surgical groups want you to be done nursing b4 surgery bc your body will be in starvation mode. That being said, baby is eating other food too and not relying on you for total nutrition so it might be ok. I totally get baby led weaning, it is what I did. One decided to be done at 15 months, the other at 18 months. I started the surgical process as soon as I was done nursing. Even if they make you wait it shouldn't be too long. Unless you plan on nursing until preschool, but that would be another issue for another forum. Lol 😄 -
No. The sleeve surgery was so fast they said it wasn't necessary. They were wrong. I got so much IV fluid and I peed the bed b4 I realized what was happening. Still sleepy when it happened. I had a catheter for child delivery and I am a nurse, so no big deal either way. It feels a little weird, bit it is temporary. Not something to worry about.

So wonderful for you! What a great stress relief to be employed! The excitement of new possibilities is literally AMAZING! I am also startiing a new job that might have some great opportunities. Great place to be.

When did hunger strike for you?
Sleeved36 replied to Neversaynever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The hunger is real! But is it head hunger or real hunger? I am still working it out. Water helps. I am jealous of the people who don't feel hunger, it's a b**ch. But I didn't have my belly cut up for nothing. Some days it is just me and my iron will. -
I used it on and off for a month. It just feels good to be supported. Use it when you are going to be on your feet a lot. Right after surgery I wore it to sleep sometimes too. Figure out what works for you and do it.
-
You are not alone. Everyone has bad days or they are fibbing ☺. If we all had perfect control over food, surgery would not be necessary. My answer to hunger has been WATER. On the days when I feel hungry/hangry I have realized that I wasn't drinking enough water. This made me be better about tracking water and protien. It also made me find some water enhancers. I go every other with regular water and flavoring/tea. Relax, that was another day. Today is a new one. You can do it! I am sorry, I know you wanted real advice and all I have to say is WATER. I swear it helps. 😊

Ooo! I like that one! ^^ I have a wedding to go to as well. For the first time in a LONG time I was excited to go shopping for a dress. I have lost just enough weight to not look like a blob anymore. I actually have a little shape now! Sometimes it is the small things.

Not a kilo lost through Gastric Sleeve :(
Sleeved36 replied to Saddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that you said you did not want to be judged for not being heavy enough, BUT you are not heavy enough for gastric bypass. Please do not mistake this comment for judement, the STRUGGLE IS REAL and your pain is real. Research says that bariatric surgery should only be done on low BMI patients if they have uncontrolled diabetes and the gastric sleeve would be the preferred choice. Low BMI by surgical standards is still 30-35, which you are still below. Here in the U.S. physicians take an oath to "do no harm". I do have to question any bariatric surgeon that would perform gastric bypass on a patient at such a low weight/BMI. Inducing a malabsorptive state on someone with very little to lose is irresponsible. Losing weight might happen, but so will other vitamin deficiencies if you are not eating right. I am not trying to be judgemental, but please consider other options before going "under the knife" again.
