Eberhard - good for you! I have told most people too and don't mind shining the light of education into the darkness of ignorance, BUT there is so much ignorance it can get exhausting after a while. 😩

Eating out during soft food stage
Sleeved36 replied to Dee_Rose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go out for coffee! Or brunch and have oatmeal/yogurt/cottage cheese/scrambled eggs. -
I really try to be good, but life can get in the way. 😕 I take most of my vitamins most of the time. Ideal eating and drinking routine is starting my day with fluid (sometimes protein, sometimes tea). I have a 20 oz refillable bottle and I alternate fluids and food. If I drink 20 oz of fluid between each food intake it helps me manage real hunger, thirst, and head hunger. I track protein and fluid, kinda. Never calories, carbs, or fat. Way too much work. I have total respect for all of you who are good about it. I am following a lower carb/fat diet and eating the right things, good enough. WLS has changed my life, but not become my obsession. Probably why I am a slow loser, but still consistently losing pounds and inches so it is working for me.

It is mid-summer and my clothes are looking frumpy, even the pre-pregnancy ones! This is happy and sad. I don't want to buy a bunch of new stuff until fall. But it will have to happen. Since my body is shrinking my clothes hang on me more, which means the neck lines are lower and I have noticed a few times when my t*ts were hanging out too much. 😲 Meh, was really hoping to wait until fall. . . . . .

I buy chia in bulk and put in a shaker, sprinkle it on everything. Salad, soup, yogurt, baked into things both sweet and savory, spaghetti sauce, salsa, scrambled eggs . . . . . They have no flavor, just texture and you get used to it. New habits, like we all haven't been doing enough of that! 😀 If I try to give my 4yr old yogurt w/o chia he will get upset "Where are my black sprinkles!?"

Abnormal ekgs happen all the time. It could have been many things like where the stickers were placed or amount of tissue over your heart (nice way of saying it's the boobs). An ekg is a very simple picture of electrical activity, just a piece of the picture when it comes to your heart. They just have to check all of the boxes for preop clearance. I'm not trying to be dismissive either, just keep working through the process.

Why is alcohol that bad for you after surgery?
Sleeved36 replied to t1018ross's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good point J San! Sometimes it is all about the extra calories! I enjoy a drink here and there, but I cut myself off for a little bit. I am so close to another milestone/goal that it isn't worth it. In 2 pounds I am severely obese and no longer morbidly obese! -
Intelligence Education Wisdom All different things. He proved that with 1 encounter! Btw when you find a male surgeon with all three let me know! Lol Been in healthcare for 18 years, never seen it.

I don’t want to be “that guy”
Sleeved36 replied to Sweedfire86's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Chill out Creek! See the wink emoji? And don't get on a high horse about being abusive. You like to start sh*t all the time. -
All good ideas, but for the soft food stage don't forget egg bites. They were wonderful when I was hungry on the go, still like them. Starbucks are everywhere and they saved me a few times. There are not a lot of convenient options for soft foods on the go.

Ahh. . . Well, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But that might be true too 😉 -

Did I miss something? When did anyone say he was a dog? OP: I just want you to think carefully before you do anything drastic. It would be terrible if you destroyed a good relationship bc you are in an emotional state postop. You might start dating again and realize she was wonderful. But I don't know you or your fiance, maybe you guys breaking up is long overdue. Maybe she is toxic and negative person and you are better off without her. Only you can decide . . . . We all deserve to be treated well, that goes for both you and her. -

Tealael is right, it could be the hormones. This is a tough process in every way. Can make you want to change every area of your life. Is your fiance a nice person that treats you well? If so, don't make any rash decisions. However, if she is rude to you or others and you think you can do better . . . . Happy hunting! -
Smile dude! You are doing great!

How you doing? Hope everything goes well today! The hardest part of this journey is deciding to do it, then the first 2 weeks after surgery. Almost there!

I have been too hungry to have protein shakes. I mean real hunger, not head hunger. I eat all of my protein and the shakes are just added calories at this point. I have one once in a while if I eat a lower protein meal (certain salads). Sleeved may 9, down 33 lbs or so, not weighing in daily - too stressful 😬

I wish! Pants are too big in the hips/thighs, but going down sizes isn't working bc my fat gut isn't shrinking as fast as the rest of me. 😥 Smaller sizes look great on my legs, but give me "muffin top". 😪 Remember that scene in the Nutty Professor movie when Eddie Murphy is going back and forth between fat and thin? That's how I feel. What random part will shrink next? ?Certainly not my waist.

Why is it that we can no longer for the rest of our lives drink carbonated drinks or carbonated water like Perrier?
Sleeved36 replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Need to highlight a point here . . . BELCHING. It isn't cool if you don't live in a frat house. I tried straws a little, resulted in belching. Tried a little carbonation, resulted in belching. Will have to pass for now on both. Do miss my occasional diet coke, but it isn't worth the resulting loud noises. My silly sleeve is loud enough on it's own -
Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat!
Sleeved36 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know this is a loaded subject, but here goes: I am a nurse and the physicians I work with often recommend weight loss to thier patients. Some approach this conversation better than others. As a nurse I understand that losing weight makes patients healthier and the obesity epidemic can not be ignored . . . . BUT as a patient I hated being told to lose weight, in fact I kinda wanted to lash out at the skinny wench. Duh, if it was so easy I wouldn't be fat bc it is SUPER fun not being able to: find clothes that fit, reach my toes, breath while I put on shoes, or fit in a small chair. So here are my questions for you all: How should a doctor tell you to lose weight? Or should they just not say anything? Who can you help by ignoring it? Would it be better if nutrition classes or a healthy lifestyle program was offered at the same time? Should the conversation only happen with another big person? Would you feel less judged that way? Or does it seem silly for a fat person to tell another fat person to lose weight? Empathy or irony? Would it be better or worse if bariatric surgery was mentioned? Would it help if I flashed my scars? Tell me about times when a medical professional told you to lose weight. How did it feel? What would have made it better? I can change how this is done where I work, but need input. You can PM me if you want, too. Second guessing this post, might belong in the rant and rave section. -
I was cleared for salads at 6 weeks as well. But found out that they were still tough to digest and made my sleeve sore if I had salad too many meals in a row. I also tolerate some greens better than others. Even if your surgeon clears you, listen to your body too.

My wedding ring fits again! Haven't been able to wear it for almost 2 years! I was determined that I was going to resize myself instead of the ring. 2 months out from surgery, the ring is tight but it will get better.

It’s like the first time all over again...
Sleeved36 replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I totally feel this way! I am never quite sure about trying foods. Say to myself "is this worth the potential belly ache?" a lot. Finding that I need to be careful with salads. Can eat some, but not for too many meals in a row. My sleeve gets angry if I make it digest too much tough fiber. -
Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat!
Sleeved36 replied to Sleeved36's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you for all of the thoughtful responses. I have a few options to refer patients to for help and will do so. Most people seem to agree that a weight loss discussion is better if help is offered at the same time. I was trying to have a discussion on this thread without revealing all of my personal information. Instead this thread was hijacked by people wanting to tell me my scope of practice and what they think I am qualified to do. Since no one can do that: I am a DNP. Which means that I have a doctoral degree. I can refer and prescribe, yes that can vary state to state. I am also a nurse, it is officially part of my title and the most generic way to describe myself on an online forum where I prefer to have some anonymity. Going to unfollow my own thread now. -

You said your NP talked to you, NPs are nurses too. I also went to school for 9 years. It is my job in a cardiology center. Please don't make this thread about technical medical credentials, I just wanted to discuss the weight loss conversation. -

Sleeved36 replied to Sleeved36's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Health promotion and maintenance is absolutely my role. More than half of my job at work is education. It is condescending and rude of you to assume that you know my job description, nurses do all kinds of things. I have lots of other fancy letters behind my name besides RN that relate to my professional role, but that isn't the point for this forum. I didn't think I would have to include all of my credentials to have a discussion about how people felt about weight conversations in a healthcare setting.
