Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!
Sleeved36 replied to Itsnicoleee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Calcium blocks iron absorption. Vitamin c helps iron absorption. Just make sure you take calcium supplements separate from your multivitamin. Opurity/Unjury has calcium supplements and vitamins that are meant for bariatric patients. I realize this is the second time I am recommending Unjury, I don't work for them or anything. I just find it easier to place 1 online order for all my stuff instead of going to a bunch of stores. I took care of a young man who didn't take his calcium after gastric bypass and his teeth started deteriorating. He was sweet, I felt bad for him. -
I think the timeline for returning to exercise is individual. There is a huge difference in age and health status in this group, all sleevers are in a slightly different boat. That being said, don't mess up your new joint (Or any of your originals) with too much running. Maybe try a little biking/hiking/swimming too? Not trying to start a fiery debate about running. It can be a part of a healthy lifestyle, but it is also tough on your knees/hips.

Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!
Sleeved36 replied to Itsnicoleee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't have a surgery date yet, but have been trying different liquid things. I really like the chicken broth/soup from Unjury. It has 20 grams of protein. Unjury also has pea protein that I like added to soups. For some reason unflavored whey protein adds a strange aftertaste/texture to soups that is just disgusting to me. Everyone has different opinions, those are just my few favorites. I would also like to hear other people's ideas. No matter what, find a vitamin routine that works for you and remember not to take calcium and iron at the same time. Supplements for life are important; vitamin/mineral deficiencies can be serious. I am a nurse and have seen all sorts of bad stuff happen to bariatric patients that don't take thier vitamins. Don't let it be you! -
So sorry! Hope you feel better soon.

Any Oregon Sleevers here?
Sleeved36 replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I live in the Portland area. Hope to have sleeve soon. Still going through the process at OHSU. Everyone has been great so far, just scheduling at least 1 month out so it is taking FOREVER. What's your story? I would also like to hear from other Oregon sleevers. -
👏Thank you. I was going to say the same thing. This is a place for honesty and support, not nastiness.

Just Started Journey... Thoughts and Concerns
Sleeved36 replied to Kay07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance covers as soon as the surgeon's office places the request. I know that I am lucky, but it still feels like it is taking forever. Dieticians, psychologist, cardiologist and everyone is booked out 4-6 weeks. I am slowly losing weight on the pre-op diet, but getting hungry and impatient. I was ready to start this process months ago, but my little guy wasn't done breastfeeding yet. Hope it all works out for you soon! -
So sorry you are having to go through this! We do so much work to go through this process (I am still doing pre-op stuff) any set back is frustrating. Hope it all works out soon!

I can so relate! I am on my strict low-carb pre-op diet and I freaked out yesterday and had a big bowl of Mac and cheese. It is ok. Overall I am doing everything right and losing weight. Today is a new day and I started it with a healthy breakfast. Keep going! We can do it! -
I am still doing some pre-op clearance work and hope to be sleeved in April. I can totally appreciate those who choose to keep this a secret. Life is hard enough with out other people judging you and we have all already had enough judgement for being fat. But I think I am going to go the other way on this one. . . . I am planning on telling EVERYONE. So far the reactions have been mixed, but the stigma of weight loss surgery will not go away if we all stay in the dark. Me and my sleeve are out of the closet!
