Pre-Op Diet for Initial Weight Loss
Kay07 replied to Kay07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See you just gave me something to think about! I've heard about the keto diet, but I don't think I really understand it. How do you keep your carbs so low? I try too, but am still doing like 100-150 carbs a day. I feel like I am missing something in the calculations? -
Congratulations! I wish you a QUICK and Speedy recovery, and may the stalls be few and far in between
-
May I ask your age?
-
Gah how do you deal with the wait?!? I hate waiting. Patience is my least favorite virtue, and I've neglected it quite wonderfully. But 1 week away is fantastic! What are you doing to distract yourself? Are you on a liquid preop? I know the pain of the gas too having had my gallbladder out, that stuff is brutal!

It's the small milestones that matter sometimes...

Woohoo! That must have felt ahhhhmazing! -
Thanks! I am really really hoping I don't need one, because they I can proceed directly to insurance approval/setting a date! The potential endoscopy (surgeon req), plus a chest x-ray (surgeon req) and sign off physical from PCP to clear for surgery (Insurance req) are the only remaining obstacles!
-
I have to have a chest x-ray, and I hope to take care of that this week so they have the results prior to meeting with the surgeon. It was my hope to have EVERYTHING taken care of prior to the surgeon visit, but my PCP isn't too keep on the Endoscopy because she says I have no symptoms and insurance may not cover. So I am really hoping they waive it. As mentioned, I've never had any issues with heartburn/reflux or anything like that outside of pregnancy so I hope it might help. However if they require it, it can only benefit me in the long rung (I just hope it doesn't take too long to get!). The more I think about it, the more attached to a potential surgery date in May I become...

May or June Surgery date:
Kay07 replied to acrowder61's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I am (hopefully) going to be set up for surgery the same time! I would love to go back to work after a few days, but I need to take a realistic approach. Even if we are able to walk, it’s still major abdominal surgery that will leave you in pain and tired. I don’t think2-3 days is going to be feasible but maybe 1 week? I figure my surgery will be on a Monday, so it gives me the entire week plus a weekend to recover. Here’s to hoping because my boss might cry if I request 2 weeks haha. -
This comment made me smile. And laugh. Lots of laughter...

Late June/Early July surgery date

@James Marusek super informative post! Thank you! -
I wish you all the best in getting there!!!

Thanks @Creekimp13! I did not learn about what BMI was until I first researched this surgery perhaps 2 or so years ago, so I have no idea what it really means. Numbers are finite. Thank you all for your input, I've been stressing over this number of 135 all day and I am glad that it isn't as big a deal as my nutritionist made it out to be!

Let us know how they taste!
-
Hope I can do the same! I am mildly obsessed with goals, which is great for work! Nooot so great for this I think?
-
Yeah, I basically live in my blanket at home. It's great, it has a pocket for my feet I am thankful that I will go through the losing process during the summer. I am told that the rapid weightloss can throw your body's temperature control out of wack, and as it settles then that balances. Not sure how true that is, but one can hope!

Thanks everyone for your feedback! @336Mike I was about 140 in High School, but not sure if its really feasible to get back to that after having 2 kids. To think I thought I was fat THEN... @Mattymatt That's kind of what I was thinking, that even my first assumed goal of 160 felt so very far away. Then to make it 135 felt almost impossible. I'd rather set an achievable goal, as I am very much a goal oriented person. Did you feel at all overwhelmed by the goal of 190? @newmebithebypass See I think I might just do the same, and work towards a goal that makes sense. I just know that if I go with the goal of 135, and I don't meet it, I will feel like I failed. @Jenn1 I think I look at the numbers because its easier to track. I want to be healthy. I want to not have to dread going to the doctors and get the "so about your weight..." conversations. If I say I want to get to 160, I know what that looks like because I was it once. If I say I want to get to a bmi of 22, I've no idea what that is. I feel like the only reason I know what a bmi is, is because mine is bad! Perhaps I just need to adjust my way of thinking to make this seem less overwhelming.

I've been there! Great place! Well the food was meh, but you don't go there for the food lol. And yes, time DOES fly. I feel as though I've been having those moments a lot lately. I had a memory float across my facebook, only to realize it was 10 years ago and promptly felt like I had half a foot in the grave. I am only 30, but I live the life of a 50year old because of this weight.
-
Congratulations! That is super exciting. Now you just have to survive the WAIT!
-
I heard that was common. They did an entire discussion on it in my support group. I am already always cold... I may not survive having 100+ less pounds of insulation! LOL. If I wasn't such a diehard Bostonian, I would consider moving to the warmer part of the country.
-
Cold. Very cold. And I am supposed to get up to 10inches of snow tomorrow, so I am grumpy!
-
Hope your day today was superb!

Hello! After 7 years of telling myself I would get myself back to a healthy range, I finally admitted I just can't do it on my own. I've started the process with Mount Auburn Weight Management Center in Waltham/Cambridge MA, and am suddenly terrified that everything will go wrong. I contacted my insurance company (Harvard Pilgrim) and confirmed that They do cover Bariatric Procedures There is no condition requiring a certain amount of time on a program There is no waiting period from entry to surgery date However I just have this feeling that I am going to go through the whole process, only to be told that my insurance denied it and requires me to wait or something. Did any of you run into insurance issues? What are some best practices that I may be able to do to ensure things run smoothly? When I spoke to my insurance, they claimed that *I* didn't have to do anything, that it was all on the docs... but it just can't be that simple! Help and advice would be most appreciated! Anyone else on here have Harvard Pilgrim? Kind regards, Kay

Feeling Optimistic About Post Op Nutrition! [emoji4]
Kay07 replied to dreamangel1974's topic in Food and Nutrition
The mashed cauliflower is great! It IS a bit of a jarring difference to be honest. What I did is slowly replaced the potatoes with the cauliflower since I tend to go into texture shock. It helped me, and honestly I love love love 1/2 potato 1/2 cauliflower mashed with a bit of garlic. Yumm.
