Welcome back and congratulations! Each day the discomfort will subside. Make sure you are walking as much as you can - even if it’s just getting up once an hour and making a loop around the living room. And yes - follow your week by week plan regarding fluids, puréed foods and soft foods being introduced slowly. Even if you aren’t hungry - eat 3 meals per day making sure to get your protein in and keep up your fluid intake. Be kind to yourself and let your body heal. We’ve all just had major surgery...
  2. Thanks. I’m a rule follower - just wasn’t sure if crab would be interchangeable with tuna/salmon. Luckily I love tuna and salmon

    Help with dehydration

Is it the flavor (or lack thereof)? Or the quantity that’s an issue. If flavor - increase your fluid intake by adding cut apple juice - 1 part water/1 part juice, unsalted broth, or no sugar flavor packets to your water. If quantity - I used the one ounce medicine cups - would pour 4 of them per hour - and would drink them every 15 minutes fo at least 12 hours.
  4. Hi guys - just a quick question...for week it says I can have tuna and salmon (canned or pre-packaged I believe - not looking at my list right now) Do you think crab would be allowed? Thanks for any input.
  5. Hi I would suggest the next time you want ice cream you measure out the amount as prescribed by your nutritionist/doctor - put it in a small bowl (so it looks like a lot) and eat slowly. For me, I’m only allowed up to 2 TBS of the new soft foods I’m introducing this week (unsweetened applesauce, loose oatmeal, instant mashed potatoes - made with water only). I bought these small glass bowls and tons of measuring spoons, cups, etc. to learn proper portion sizes. When I move to tuna and scrambled eggs next week, my plan is to use small salad plates. Fools the mind into thinking there is more food Just my $0.02 Roxine
  6. Patience dear Mattymatt. Stay the course These precious few weeks are when we retrain ourselves to use food as fuel versus pleasure. And I’m talking more to myself than to you - but your post resonates with me as I am anxiously awaiting Monday when I get to add scrambled eggs. It’s the one thing I’ve missed in the last few weeks. I only hope I’m able to tolerate them. Fingers crossed!

Everyone heals differently. I too started despising the protein shakes Post-Op. I now take them in my coffee - use them as a creamer of sorts. It makes it more tolerable. I’m 11 days Post-Op and my Dr allows sugar free applesauce, loose oatmeal, yogurt (original no sugar added), and instant mashed potatoes. Can you do any of those? Next week I get to add scrambled eggs and tuna. Looking forward to having more textures other than mush.

Hello MGBG’ers! Just checking in. Any newly bypassed people who want to join our group? For those Post-Op, how are you doing? My incisions have started itching a bit which means they are healing. I was happy to be able to introduce mashed potatoes this week, but with the help of a mentor, realized their useless carbs. If I eat potatoes again, it will be sweet potatoes. For now, I’m taking them off my list. I can feel my body shedding weight. It’s easier to move, to get up from a chair, to climb stairs, to get out of bed...just small milestones I thought I’d share.

Remember to go slow and take it easy. We are taking in so few calories that we tore quite easily. Have you been walking? How’s your energy level throughout the day? Did your Dr give you any guidance on when you can drive? Mine was no driving for one week. I drove yesterday (day 9) for the first time

Hi and welcome! Measuring is important - even when you get through the liquid phase. It’s worth the investment to pick up some good measuring spoons and measuring cup. I use mine every day. Also placing liquids in smaller cups reminds you to sip slowly. No gulping allowed With gulping not only are you taking in too much fluid but you’re also introducing air into your pouch. And we don’t have much room in there! I am 9 days Post-Op so we are close in our journeys.
  14. I haven’t been to one yet. Will probably attend next month
  15. They don’t want you driving for 1 week - I drove today which is day 9 for me. I am returning physically to work on Monday, but was lucky enough to be able to telework this week. So I “returned” to work a week after surgery, but it’s with a laptop in my big recliner, PJs, and blankets - so I’m not sure that qualifies.
  16. WOW! Great job! How do you feel? What’s it like 3 months out? At 9 days Post-Op, that just seems so far away... but there’s no turning back now Do you attend the staple club meetings or any support groups in the Reston area?
  17. How are you doing - are you now 3 months Post-Op! Share stats

First bites of actual food gone bad!

I can’t do milk now - so I use my strawberry cream flavored protein shake. It’s very good! I also use my protein shake in my coffee as creamer. Yum!

First bites of actual food gone bad!

I’m doing unsweetened apple sauce, mashed potatoes (instant only made with water), plain yogurt (no or low sugar), and oatmeal.

Welcome Matt! Were you having issues with lap band or just decided to do GB? I, too, hope you have an uneventful surgery and relatively easy recovery.

My Dr said it could be 1-2 nights but that most stayed 2 nights. My blood pressure was pretty low that first night, falling below 100 systolic, so I think out of precaution they keep me the second night. But I was ok staying 2 nights. The first day was a blur and I used the second day to really focus on fluid intake and walking. The only thing I didn’t like was the IV is the last thing they remove and I was tired of having that in my arm.
  22. Two reasons 1. Gas. It’s also the source of a lot of your initial pain. For me it was 80% of my pain and I was so happy when I started passing gas. 2. Fluids. Remember, you were hooked up to an IV - for a few days, and those fluids pumped into your body 24 hours a day. About day 3-4 Post-Op you should see marked improvement in the ‘additional weight”. But my suggestion to you? Follow your Drs plan, walk as much as you can, and weigh only once a week. Congratulations! I had my surgery March 5th so I am 9 days Post-Op. we have a March GB Group if you’re interested.
