Gained wt during 6 month diet period
johnsons13 replied to Briswife15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got so mad when I had to redo my 6 months. I started questioning everything and wanted to give up. I thought it wasn't meant to be. This wasn't because of my insurance but the crappy pcp I had and their crappy notes in my chart. Anyway, my husband reminded me of my own words to him many times. Whatever I was going through I was supposed to go through and it wasn't my time to have surgery yet. -
I told my husband that quitting alcohol and drugs is much easier than eating right when all you know is unhealthy eating. I'm only 6 months post op, but I struggle daily, especially now my 8 year old is playing football. All those yummy horrible foods at the concession stand. I do good for 2-3 weeks, then I go on a week binge. I have lost 45 pounds but I know I should have almost lost to my goal weight. It can be discouraging. But you have all of us here on Bariatric pal.

Gained wt during 6 month diet period
johnsons13 replied to Briswife15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We get approved because we can't lose weight on our own successfully. I got the heaviest I've been during my 6 months. My insurance company just wanted an actual record of attempting to lose weight. Don't quit trying, but don't beat yourself up for gaining. I'm 6 months post op and I'm at a standstill. But I also eat really good for a few weeks then go on a weird kinda binge eating. -
I’m losing weight!
johnsons13 replied to BelleOfBatonRouge's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Way to go. I wish it was my feet, my boobs and butt have shrunk and my belly is more squishy. My husband says he can see I'm losing. My rings flew into the dryer one day when I was tossing clothes in. I guess weight loss is weight loss regardless where it's disappearing from. -
Post operation diet

I would listen to your doctor. Many people on here have great advice and I got lost in all the different theories and opinions. I got to wondering what should I do. I know my Dr office is well known in my area and has positive reviews and word of mouth, so I try to listen to the first. I'm sure your doctor's way has seemed successful for his/her patients so they keep using that method. -

Does your surgeon's office not have a dietician? I've always been amazed at the different diets doctors use. Like I'm 6 months post op and I"m still not able to have potatoes but I'v heard of people that in the beginning were told to eat mashed potatoes. Same goes for rice. I can have quinoa in low amounts. -
Pre op Liquid Diet
johnsons13 replied to Lovingmyselfforever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 2 week liquid pre op and it seemed like such a hard thing. But my liquid diet was every 2 hours drink or eat a Gatorade or g2, fat free or light yogurt, popsicle, skim milk, or fruit juice. I had to drink 60g of protein in protein drink a day. I had some free items like sugar free popsicles, chicken or beef broth, diet coke, sugar free jello. I just made sure to consume what I was supposed to and leave the freebie stuff when I was craving. I did cheat here and there and it was hard going through it. Especially when I would read on here people with 2-5 days of pre op liquid diet and I had 2 weeks. -
8 weeks post surgery still nautious

I got like that and my dr said I was dehydrated and sent me to get fluids by IV. It really helped how I was feeling. I wasn't nauseous or tired. I try to stay on top of it now. I knew going in I was going to struggle drinking 64oz because I could go all day drinking one 20oz. -

Are you taking vitamins? I know my vitamins make me feel nauseous until I found some I can tolerate. Are you staying hydrated? When I've been dehydrated the nausea is worse. there could be fixable reasons to your nausea. Talk to your doctor and dietician. -
I had diarrhea the whole time I as on a liquid diet after my surgery and Dr said it was normal. Liquids in, Liquids out. And if you're on protein drinks, they might not be agreeing with your new tummy. I know the protein drink I had during pre op would not settle well post op. But now, I can drink it for meal replacement with no problem

When was your surgery? Mine was April 3rd. -
I almost changed insurance before my surgery because of the shorter wait time, but changing my primary wasn't worth it. Also I know that by me rushing things, I could miss out on a lot of what I needed to do to get ready mentally too. My first pcp in my journey refused to submit my weigh ins and say we had discussed losing weight. So I had to start my 6 months over and the new insurance didn't require 6 months. But, in the end, I'm happy I didn't switch and I let things happen in my Higher Powers time.

1 week post-op...Feeling good, just sick of the liquid diet
johnsons13 replied to Twism44's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just keep telling yourself that this is temporary and it will pass. It might pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass. I had the same issue. I couldn't wait to chew something, anything. -

when I first told them about my surgery, they told me I didn't need to lose weight because I'm pretty the way I am. Now they ask if I can eat certain foods and how many calories are in everything. they'll eat a candy bar and say "mama you can't have this it's too many calories. " They're 6 and 8. -

Mine was just curious of everything it involved even though we knew some from watching My 600lb Life. My boys even ask me how many calories each food I try to eat. -

That's sweet. My husband had never had love or had someone push him to grow and be happy. He is an addict too and has always had people turn their back and I pushed him to believe in himself. And I think that's why he has the fear of me leaving, but any relationship, surgery success, our serene and happy life is dependent on the hard work we put in. -

It's fear of change. My husband also wants to comfort me and he sees how hard I struggle emotionally not to dive into the chips and candy. I've literally had tears in my eyes wanting a piece of cake or ice cream. He tells me no at first then gives in. My addict mind also knows he will and I end up manipulating him by making him feel bad. Puts things into perspective telling on myself right now. -

My husband encouraged my negative eating and then once it was set it stone I was getting surgery, he finally confessed he was/is nervous I'll leave him once I get healthier and feeling more secure. That I'll want someone on my level. I have heard that a lot of relationships struggle after surgery. First, speaking from my experience, I am an emotional roller coaster because I've lost another crutch. Also, I get angry as if my family should do this with me. Technically that's not fair to them. I am recovering from drugs/alcohol and the same goes with people that drink. I don't consume it, but it's not up to me to tell someone else they can't. I'm the one with food/drug/alcohol problems no my kids or my husband. I have to look at my husband and what I fell in love with. This is my fight and he wants the best, but he's scared too. -

Luckily I'm a stay at home mom. Once I got my drainage bulb out, I was moving so much better. The only time I really had discomfort was when I was trying to poop, get up from sitting or laying down. I was pretty much just tender. I was doing laundry, house chores, etc. I just followed my dr post op limitations and moved around as much as possible. Ive had 3 C-sections and a hysterectomy. The only reason this surgery hurt worse was the gas pain. Farting hurt to get out but felt so much relief after. (this surgery isn't one to have modesty with)
