Thanks. I posted about my results in another post.. I actually have a hiatal hernia and am looking for a different doc because the one I have says he won’t touch anyone with a hiatal hernia. I learned that it’s actually common for someone who is over weight. Somewhat discouraged from hearing this diagnosis.. however I will continue to move forward and keep pushing towards my goal to better health. Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery
GirlShrinking replied to GirlShrinking's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with your doc along with the other doctors mentioned here from the previous people’s post. It definitely puts a bump in the road for me... especially since I’ve had to put this surgery off back in 2014 because of other issues.. so stressful. Thanks for everyone’s post. Still staying on the positive of things and I am definitely already looking around for another doctor. [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -

Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery

Both of these comments are comforting to know.. that I’m not the only one . I was bummed that the bariatric surgeon said he wouldn’t touch patients with it.. so that makes me sick to my stomach knowing that I’ll probably have to go on another to yo yo diet. I’m already being active (much as I can be) recently I’ve been having knee pain and bad back pain (most likely related to my weight) and have cut back on a lot of calories and increased my protein just need a little bit of help keeping it off and I believe this tool will help me do that. I’ve gone done 11.4 lbs thus far [emoji57] *sigh* I’m staying positive though [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
summer ‘18 surgery??? people under 30?
GirlShrinking replied to saygrace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So do I! My upper endoscopy is the 3rd of April.. I’m getting my barium swallow test today at 8:45am, I had my first group meeting yesterday. I learned a lot and some of the people in the group really try to get together and push each other to stay on track either via social media or texting each other reminders.. it’s nice It will pass fast if your appointments are somewhat spread out. Do you know roughly when your surgery will be? [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
That’s great! I have my barium swallow test today 8:45 eastern time, my initial nutritionist visit the 27th of March and my upper endoscopy on the 3rd of April [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

Water Reminder App
GirlShrinking replied to lindseypb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try baritastic app.. someone on here mentioned it and looked it up. I love it It also has a ‘chew timer’ a wait timer for water or fluids in between chews. Very helpful Mila -
puerto rican food????
GirlShrinking replied to lorena090's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried this but it’s too tempting to eat more than one serving.. I’ve stayed away from Spanish food altogether.. blessings to those that can control portion (especially with Spanish food) lol I can’t ! [emoji1316] Mila -
Thank you for sharing! I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Definitely do not want revisions down the road.. the more I read the more I’m leaning towards the VSG RNY ..I’ve been reading and researching which option I’m deciding on. My Dr isn’t a fan of the lap band and is recommending (case by case basis) which option to go with. Told him I was interested in going with the VSG method. I have a few appointments lined up.. he said I would have to be cleared from having GERD. Says most patients have worsened symptoms after surgery if they have a history of GERD.. also, I have a history of gallbladder problems [emoji57] It’s Stressful thinking about the appointments coming up.. 12 appointments total. Just started getting into the habit of writing down what I eat via Baritastic app... do you have any advice on what the easiest way to remember in writing things down either on paper or in app? I keep forgetting (I guess stuff like this is probably part of the reason I got this way) I also started walking 5,000-10,000 steps a day.. slowly increasing.. it’s a work in progress but I’m determined and looking forward to lifetime success. Mila

I just had an orientation for Bariatric surgery. The dr that gave the seminar stated that lap bands are being phased out slowly because too many patients are coming back with issues from either the lap band or new issues arise from it and they have to go through revision surgery. I am undecided as to which surgery I’ll be going with but I definitely do not want to do any revisions later down the road. How long have you all had yours? Mila

Yea, there’s different places you can look for recipes. I just open google and search BariatricPal friendly Spanish recipes Mila -

Ashash this all very helpful and good to know! do you have an Instagram or snap? I am looking for people to keep in touch with along my journey and have helpful tips. I am just beginning at the moment. I had my consultation two weeks ago and I’ll be going to my first referral for the chalky substance test? (Not looking forward to that) that is next Friday. So far I’ve cut out soda and serious increased my water intake by about 32 oz a day (that’s more than half of what I drank before) I struggle with water intake it’s hard. I also, started taking multivitamins and extra biotin.. do have any suggestions on what’s a good vitamin or do any of them will do? Mila

Thanks for this post. I’ve been looking for an unflavored protein mix.. what do you normally use to mix it with? I get my protein from cottage cheese and blueberries stirred in, and spinach in salads or chicken sandwich .. just learning to adjust my habits now so it’s easier later down the road. Mila

I’m part Puerto Rican and have tried brown rice it does taste the same as white rice when you make it yellow. There are substitute websites out there and the flavor is hit or miss Mila -

summer ‘18 surgery??? people under 30?
GirlShrinking replied to saygrace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here with the yo-yo diets. Such a struggle, this will definitely help keep me in line. I’ve lost before about 30 lbs gained it all back and some [emoji79] my HW is 280 my CW 277 ( I’ve lost 3 lbs since consultation when they told me to eliminate sodas and sugary drinks) increased protein and added an additional 10 mins of walking. Who’s your doctor? Btw, I’m 36 and been struggling with for a very long time. Mila -

[emoji120] thanks and you as well, keep me posted on how it goes! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s transformation stories! [emoji5] Mila -
I wonder why it went up.. back in 2015 when I did the process it was only three visits to a nutritionist. Two group meetings and orientation was mandatory. Thanks btw, you as well. This is by far one of the most needed tools in my life. My health depends on it (and my sister’s) she is going through this with me too. Mila

I had my first consultation the 28th of February and I’ll be having my first support group (required in CT) next week and I’ll have my first referral appointment with a radiology to do some testing (swallowing a chalky substance?) .. it looks like after all the required visits and submission to insurance I’ll be looking at the end of July early Aug. I went through all of this back in 2015 and backed out when submitted to insurance (I got scared out of it) and I regret it because I’ve only struggled even more since then. Definitely following through this time and I’m looking forward to reaching goals with you guys ! [emoji5] Mila
-
Omg, Tina.. that’s awesome. Here in CT you’re required six months with documented nutritional logging, blood test, stress test, colonoscopy, endoscopy, psych evaluation, sleep study, two required support group visits, and at least 4-6 visits with a nutritionist It’s going to feel like forever but I know it’ll be worth it in the end! GirlShrinking replied to saygrace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started the process myself with my older sister and we’re eager and excited to get it done. However, the surgeon we have is saying that we have to do 6 months worth of documentation before submitting to insurance [emoji53] is it the same everywhere? I’m glad you’re so close to getting yours! Mila
