Soooo, I have to vent about this because this doctor has seen ends amounts of records of my health history.. and after my initial visit with him says ‘ I don’t think you should have surgery’ His theory is if I use metformin (which I’ve never taken in my life until meeting him today for the first time) along with the diet and exercise that I should lose just fine and be able to maintain no problem.. What have some of you dealt with as far as getting not one ( a referral) but two (having a new doctor agreeing with this surgery?) I’m 3 months in with the process and I’m hearing this now? Kind of makes me want to give up and just pop another pill (metformin) to lose weight? My goal here is to not only be a healthy weight but NOT take anymore prescription medications [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

GirlShrinking replied to GirlShrinking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
[emoji23] lmao, you silly goose I’m calling first thing tomorrow and see what’s up with not seeing the surgeon at all..until surgery date (that’s if I DO see him before then? Lol) smh 🤦🏽♀️ •36 •5’6 •Beginning W/378 •CW/268 •GW/140 •Surgery date is still unknown •RNY •From CT -
Around what time/what part of the process did everyone start getting their surgery date? I’m 3 months in with the Bariatric weight loss program and I have yet to get a surgery date. •36 •5’6 •Beginning W/378 •CW/268 •GW/140 •Surgery date is still unknown •RNY •From CT

Surgery date
GirlShrinking replied to GirlShrinking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve only been dealing with support groups, the nutritionist and that’s it. I will call tomorrow and see if I have to see surgeon before the end of the program. I was under the impression that you had to go in every two months to follow up on the weigh-ins..? Idk But I guess the nutritionist does that too. •36 •5’6 •Beginning W/378 •CW/268 •GW/140 •Surgery date is still unknown •RNY •From CT -
Surgery date
GirlShrinking replied to GirlShrinking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, thanks. Do they call you half way through the program? I haven’t seen the surgeon since end of February. They didn’t schedule me for a follow up or anything. •36 •5’6 •Beginning W/378 •CW/268 •GW/140 •Surgery date is still unknown •RNY •From CT -
Congrats on the successful surgery and the recovery time seems like it’s going well for you! [emoji1417][emoji1417] This is one of those things I am thinking over and over in my head about still feeling hungry after the procedure. Have you really thought about and learned what is real hunger and what is Head hunger? How do you manage? I’m halfway through the early stages and I’m SO nervous! •36 •5’6 •Beginning W/378 •CW/268 •Surgery date is still unknown •RNY •From CT

Taking NSAIDs Post-Op
GirlShrinking replied to PeaceAndLove88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since pre-op take a look at this link https://www.memorialcare.org/sites/default/files/media/bypass-sleeve-guidelines.pdf It helps [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
That’s a good idea..I never thought of that Thanks! [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

That’s another reason why I posted about this to see if anyone with diabetes would respond (thank you) my mom is diabetic type 2 and she’s on metformin and she hasn’t lost weight either (she’s 268) she laughed when I told her what the doctor had told me and said ‘he’s an idiot, he’s just trying to make you Sh!t’ 🤷♀️ I mean he did chuckle as he told me that ‘it will make you run to the bathroom for the first week’.. and told me to start off with half a pill for a week and then increase to one half in the morning and one half at night.. in the pit of my stomach something just didn’t feel right about this doctor. I did schedule with my precious doctor’s office with a female doctor. The only problem is I have to travel 45 mins out to see her (I’m ok with that) [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

I am half way through.. all my appointments have been one right after another and I’ve got maybe three appointments left(sleep study, sleep study follow up,and Echocardiogram) and the 6 nutritionist visits left (which I have only four visits left) Everything else has been cleared .. My original PCP (the one that retired) made the original referral and said it was medically necessary (that’s why she made the referral) but nowww the surgeon for Bariatric said that because it’s been over a year I need a NEW referral and a new letter of necessity for the surgery. [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

I switched because my original PCP had retired and my patient records was taken over by a new provider (male doctor) I’m not comfortable with. I asked for the other provider (a female doc) and they said she wasn’t taking on any new patients.. so I went elsewhere. [emoji30] [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

Mind you he says he’s going to prescribe it after he tells me I’m NOT diabetic... umm Lol, yea, I agree with you this is not meant for weight loss and I’m not going to be his guinea pig. He definitely pushed back when I said that I don’t want another pill.. he said well, you’ve lost 9 lbs since your visit with Bariatric. Left the office knowing I wasn’t going back to them, smh. I’m a little annoyed [emoji19] I didn’t even bother with scheduling another appointment. [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

This is a brand new primary care doctor he’s never seen me before (skimmed through my records in front of me) and says (you’re not diabetic) ...but here’s metformin it’ll help you lose some of the weight? When I mentioned (not one but two) is that he’s not only disagreeing with me on getting the surgery, he’s just giving me another prescription pill to push down my throat. Even though I told him that my goal here was to lose weight and keeping it off and NOT having to take the medications I’m currently on (aside from the new one he’s prescribed) ..does that make sense ? That he’s doing this? [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

Struggling... Am I doing this all wrong?
GirlShrinking replied to time_2_shine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my nutritionist to practice waiting 30mins after digesting because after surgery you have to space the purée from liquids... this is a HUGE downfall for me since I have a habit of gulping down fluids within seconds after eating. Someone on here mentioned playing a game of Tetris after digesting so it’s easier to not focus on grabbing that glass of water after eating.. I’m sorry you’re struggling. I hope you get better as time goes on and don’t feel regretful now, down the road you’ll back on this being in a better and healthier state thinking this was the best decision of your life. Stay positive love [emoji175] [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
Sleeve or bypass, how did you choose?
GirlShrinking replied to TaylorMade4One's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lol, it’s ok.. takes a little to catch up.. this is my second time attempting the journey for approval(had to put things on hold in the past) so I’m familiar with the whole process. The RNY is the bypass.. the doctor was the first one to suggest it after reviewing medical history.. after my first visit with my nutritionist and her also learning my eating habits and my medical history she too suggested the RNY.. I’m 5’6 278 lbs with a BMI between 43-45 He said with the bypass and following physical therapy and nutritionist orders I can lose a little more than half my weight! (That would take so much pressure off my joints and my lower back) I have two small slipped disks in my lower back and need to lose this weight to avoid further damage(amongst other health issues that have been recently discovered) smh I’ve been chocolate free for almost 4 months.. I’ve been eating A LOT of sugar free cherry flavored jello lol.. helps with my sweet tooth.. also yogurts and bananas. I am trusting my Dr he’s been doing these types of surgeries since 1997 and believe he has seen enough since then to know what works best for the individual cases he’s dealing with. Definitely educate yourself on what’s best as well and discuss why you feel the other option is best? From what I’ve seen the support groups I’ve been to in the last three months they have a lot of lap banders and quite a few VSG coming back from other drs that had those procedures done and being revised to the RNY Good luck with your decision.. definitely make an informed decision.. the support groups helped me a lot as well with sticking with the RNY [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
Sleeve or bypass, how did you choose?
GirlShrinking replied to TaylorMade4One's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My dr decided that I would be better candidate for the RNY (I chose sleeve) he said because of my history of acid reflux and my sweet tooth the RNY would better since acid reflux would be better and I would be less tempted to eat sweets if I had the RNY. [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
I know it’s different for everyone in recovery time.. what is the typical recovery time for someone getting the VSG? Or RNY? I’m starting a new job and I’m nervous I’ll lose my job later on once I go for surgery.. The employer does know that I have a pending surgery date (just don’t have an exact date yet) and is aware of all the necessary appointments need to be kept. When she asked how long is the recovery time .. I didn’t know what to say 🤷♀️ [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

Time off from work
GirlShrinking replied to GirlShrinking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is. I did inquire about time off and because it’s a union position they told me that someone from the union would be able to help me further once I get my surgery date? [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -

It’s a hospital setting... Meaning I won’t be doing all the nursing home duties or rehab/long term care facilities. But I will be on my feet a lot more [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
I agree, she’s stressing herself out about it [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

I got the job offer to start next week for training (she thinks my surgery will be some time soon) even though I told her I still don’t have a set date yet 🤷♀️ [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
Yes she does. She’s been seeing the same psychiatrist since she was 20 (she’s 42 now) I agree with having the support behind you (it helps a lot) even without having bipolar.. I’m sure it’s a bigger struggle (she’s all over the place with her mood at times) for the most part she’s on the down side. [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila

I’m a CNA and work in a fast pace environment. Frequent bending, lifting and twisting.. It’s a hospital setting so I really won’t be able to sit around much. [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila
