  1. I just saw your post about being postponed until 3/18. I'm so sorry that this happened. Don't give up. I promise it will be worth it! It is meant to be whenever it happens--tomorrow or 3/18. I know you're hungry, but look at it as an opportunity to drop even more lbs before the band!
  2. Congrats on deciding to take such an important step towards a healthier you! I was banded in 11/2008, but only recently started using the band (12/2/2009), because I had a baby in between. I was scared to death the night before my surgery and had it not been for a good friend who went with me to the hospital on my surgery day, I might have chickened out. I was scheduled for 9 a.m., but after I arrived my OR time was bumped and bumped and bumped. FINALLY at 3 p.m. they were ready for me. Those 6 hrs of waiting were awful!!!! I, too, was not looking forward to the intubation. I had never had surgery, but I have seen many done. Anyway, they had me walk into the OR and my poor knees were shaking. I sat on the table, they verified my information, started an IV and told me to count backwards from 100. I think I MIGHT have made is to 92 and the next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room. I was uncomfortable for a few days, especially with turning over in bed. Other than that it was NOTHING. If you told me I had to do it again tomorrow, I'd have NO FEAR at all. I have lost 30 lbs since 12/2/2009 (remember I didn't have the head start of the preop diet!) and I really love the band. It is the first time in my life I feel in control of my eating. Plus, having a 7 month old son I don't have time to eat...this way at least I'm not hungry! Good luck, keep me posted!
  3. I'm as new to blogging as I am to being banded, so please forgive me if I'm doing this wrong. My question has to do with something being "stuck". I was doing GREAT, until the dreaded bite of steak on Sunday night. I was tired and half asleep ( I have a 7 month old baby!) and I was eating too fast and didn't really chew like I am supposed to.... Anyway, THE PAIN IN MY CHEST WAS AWFUL, BURPING, SPITTING UP MUCOUS. The steak didn't come out, but I swear I felt it pass through the band and the terrible pain in my chest stopped. Now (3 days later) my chest still feels sore, like a lump between my boobs! I have been sticking to soft foods like yogurt and tuna salad, but I feel sore when I eat. No more slime or burping, no heartburn, etc. Has anybody else had this last for days? I have fear I've "slipped" my band or done some damage. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the support and information. I had 0.3 cc put in last week to get me to the middle of the "green zone", but I think I preferred being just a little less tight. I can swallow everything, but I have that feeling of a "lump" in my throat, which is much worse after the "stuck steak" incident. I was dropping weight okay before the fill, so I might consider having my doc take a bit out at visit next week....we'll see how it goes. Good Luck!
  5. I was actually banded in November of 2008, but I found out 2 weeks later that I was expecting my first child. I decided not to use the band while pregnant (probably a mistake as I now have an extra 35 lbs of "baby weight"), so my first fill was in December of 2009. I've lost 30 lbs since then. Thanks for your reply. I was just worried about my chest being sore 3 days after the stuck episode. Good luck!

  7. Hello everyone,

I'm new to the site. I went to a gastric band info session and I'm not decided, but quite interested. I have about 100 lbs to take off, but I'd be thrilled with 60 lbs! I spoke with my insurance company and they said they do cover the surgery on a case by case basis. They wouldn't give me anymore information on what I need to do, unless I request it in writing. Can others tell me what they needed to do to have insurance cover the procedure? Also, how long before they got their preauthorization and surgery?

Thanks and Congrats to all who have had the surgery!
