Need Advice on Talking to My Wife about WLS
AshMarie794 replied to Jobber's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also dealt with this with my fiancé and family. Try taking her to a support group or even a seminar for WLS. That way professionals are laying out the facts. Maybe by doing that it will help open that line of communication and she will be more open to it knowing the facts and sometimes it is the best choice. Optional or not. Sometimes it takes a drastic change for us to change our life. Good luck and keep us posted..... -

Bariatric advantage chewy bites are AMAZING. -
Yes each surgeon has their own rules they go by. Thankfully I don't have to give up caffeine. I feel for you. I am not saying go against what you've been told but I doubt it would hurt anything. And even reach out to them and let them know how your feeling and just ask. Wouldn't hurt.

I will say I started off buying premier just because it was convenient and everyone else swore by it. I AM NOT LONGER THAT PERSON. I SWEAR by UNjury. It is so good. They even have a chicken soup protein mix to use as broth and OMG YUMMMMM! https://www.unjury.com/?tag=Bing_Brand&utm_source=Bing&utm_medium=Branded Paid Search&utm_campaign=Brand

Has anyone experienced last minute jitters or even doubt about the surgery?
-
I agree with that it is a personal choice. Just know if you tell one then I am sure most will eventually find out. For just the time off work you don't have to tell them anything. Just put in your time for personal reasons, vacation or what ever you want really. Even if you don't tell people at first down the road when they see your progress you can then if you feel comfortable tell them that you had bariatric surgery. Don't need to give details or anything that may make you feel uncomfortable. At the start of my journey I did not tell anyone. I had already gone through my 6 months once before and was originally scheduled for surgery in Feb of 2018 but two days before my insurance denied me. But right before I was due to go off work and I didn't know about my denial yet I did tell two of my coworkers. Kind of felt a off when I didn't have it and I told them I was but they didn't treat me any different. But again it all depends on the person. So now that I am due to have surgery next month they are supportive. So in the end it is your choice and whatever you feel comfortable with. Just know once they know they may ask questions so be prepared for that whether it is a positive or negative response.

Last minute jitters
AshMarie794 replied to AshMarie794's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is the thought of the after effects is what is bothering me the most. Loose skin, hair loss and those kinds of things. I know the positives totally trump the negatives BUT I feel like I am doing this because my size now bothers me and I don't like the way I feel and look in some clothes but after surgery will I also not like how I look due to the loose skin? -

I hear ALOT of bypassers needing to get their gallbladder removed. Is this something more than likely we all will need to get done? Always wondered about that. Guess I will ask my surgeon about that .

Thank you!

@Chrisb428 I followed you back my YouTube channel is Fat 2 Fab.

@Chrisb428 I have actually been struggling to be honest. I have already gone through my 6 month pre req for insurance and was denied back in February due to the wording my family doctor used. My surgeon even talked with insurance and tried to fix it and I had to do it again. I feel like I was prepared and two days before surgery I was denied. So I am struggling to mentally get there this time. I feel like I did everything right the last time and it didn't happen so I have just been putting it off and putting it off. I started documenting my journey on YouTube and trying to go back and watch a few that I used to just to get myself back in the mindset of needing to get things taken care of. I have started to come around but still haven't bought anything really. August will be a busy month I am sure but fingers crossed I make it through to the losers bench. I am not required to do the scope or see the anesthesiologist just due to the fact I don't have any reflux nor had any surgeries on my stomach. So that is big plus.

I am on 8/29! Are you getting prepared?

Intro time: who's new to the group, who's pre-op, & who just recently made it to the loser's bench?

I'm down as well! Think this would be fun and helpful. Plus by getting different ideas would be nice. -
Has anyone decided to go vegan AFTER WLS? I truly don't eat a lot of animal protein anyway so I don't feel it would be a huge change for me but wanted to know if anyone has had issues/success with it.

Have you tried UNjury shakes or products? They are great and taste AMAZING. Price is reasonable. -
Good morning everyone hope you all had a good weekend. Ok so here is my issue. I have had my family support from the day I told them I was going to get the surgery. But out of the blue yesterday my mom said she would like to see me not go through with it and just loose it on my own. Since I have lost a few pounds over the last month on my own she just thinks I should do it that way. I have lost weight on my own before. Many times. I always gain it back and then some. As does she. She's had yo-yo weight all her life as well. I want this tool to help me get and stay on track. I don't know where this came from as far as her wanting me to not do it all of a sudden. She says she doesn't know anyone that has had long term success with it and they all gain the weight back. They all have had complications. And goes on and on. Like really..... I am a month out from surgery well a little more but still. I have went through the 6 month process twice now and its finally almost over and she want to come at me with this. It was like a slap in the face. I don't know how to feel about it. Has anyone else had this and how did you handle it? I feel I shouldn't have to defend myself for the decisions that I am making about my life.
-
Thank you. I am so on your side about not telling people. Only my parents and fiancé know. O and my grandma and aunt just because they are my support system. But no co workers nor friends know. They don't need to know. And I've had am amazing support system with them all UNTIL last night. It was truly a slap in the face. I am hoping that with my surgery I can meet new people maybe even local and make some new WLS buddies.

I also consider myself a flexible vegetarian.

Yes he has been supportive of my decision and encourages different things. Home life is the trial. Humans were made to eat meat. That is the mindset of those around me. But I am standing by my decision and going to try my best to do this for me and my health.

I've even told her about this forum and that there are so many success stories out there. But I think because she doesn't personally know them its like it just isn't real.
