Back to life hopefully!!!
GettinSkinnywithit replied to iPixie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 73 days out and I ate sushi last night for my wife's birthday. I ate a total of four pieces, half a roll where I used to eat two entire rolls by myself. In 8-16 months I am sure I could eat an entire roll *if I wanted* but right now my desire to succeed out weighs my desire to eat and after getting the foamies a few times, I don't want that to happen in public so I am very careful. It is a learning experience and you need to take it slow and let your body heal. Internal (wet) incisions take longer to heal then outside skin and even longer for the scar tissue to reduce. -
VITAMIN HELP RNY
GettinSkinnywithit replied to New&Improved's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
my schedule is: chewable multivitamin with 18mg iron per dose 2x's day, must take an hour before or after calcium 500 mg calcium citrate chewables 4x's day - see above vitamin b12 3000 mcg one per week, sublingal is best absorbed This is done for life to counteract the malabsorption created by RNY. -
+1! glad all went well.

Today marks the new beginning
GettinSkinnywithit replied to Greg White's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hope all went well. Looks like we have similar started stats too. You are probably still recovering from surgery - walk the halls as much as possible and just keep in mind that it will get better. the first month was quite an adjustment and not easy but buy the time you get to day 45 or so it will be almost no issue, at least it was for me and hopefully for you too! -
Gastric or Sleeve which is better?
GettinSkinnywithit replied to GIGI67's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had bad GERD before surgery - so bad that once on vacation I went and slept in the truck so I could be upright all night (that was after Mardi gras in NOLA and then some late night spicy gumbo and red wine aka trifecta). I would commonly wake up 1-1.5 hours after falling asleep with stomach acid in my throat which was one of the worst feelings and good luck going back to sleep after that, regardless of when or what I ate. My insurance would only cover RNY and interestingly first meeting with my surgeon he suggested the sleeve, so my decision was purely insurance based. I can say that post op I haven't experienced the slightest amount of reflux and I've gone down from 2x's a day 100 mg of Omeprazole to 20 mg of famotidine 2x's day. It does seem that there are quite a few posts on here about conversion from sleeve to RNY due to GERD but there also seems to be way more posts in general about sleeve patients so I take that stat with a grain of salt without some concrete analysis behind it. -

Yes, wow. Sorry for your issues. I had pretty bad GERD pre-op but post op I have not had any issues - hopefully that gives you hope in your search. -
Hydration and exercise after bypass
GettinSkinnywithit posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So I’m 4/6 months through my mandated dietician program and having second thoughts. According to my dx office I have good insurance and they pay 100%, but I’m not sure if it’s for me. I love to fish and commonly leave at 5 am and on the water for 12 hours so I’m starting to worry about hydration. I love to drink water and currently drink 2-3 24 oz waters per day. I’ve read a lot on the site but looking for some more info. After bypass can you get enough hydration in extreme situations? -
Hydration and exercise after bypass
GettinSkinnywithit replied to GettinSkinnywithit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hydration hasn't been too bad, but during the move to the new home it was a challenge and I did get light headed a few times. I certainly got all my steps in carrying boxes (the lighter ones) into the moving truck, out of the moving truck, etc! Fishing? I wish, it was 40* this morning - - WAY too cold for fishing! -

Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
GettinSkinnywithit replied to J Johnston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
soo, I kept mine secret - only told my wife, my manager and a month pre-op my parents. My wife ended up telling my sister (turned out to be my best advocate), then she told her mom who told my father in law, and then her sister who probably told her husband. Was not at all what I wanted but not much I can do about it now. When I'm down 125 lbs and back down to my high school weight then maybe I will look at it different but right now I don't need more to worry/stress about. People in the office did ask if I had WLS - I don't like the discussion because I don't like lieing. -
Post surgery how does full feel
GettinSkinnywithit replied to Lillymunster's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yeah the liquid diet sucks. I was just over one week post-op for Thanksgiving. The day after I had half a spoonful of left over mashed taters and they were soooo good! When you do get to solids, CHEW everything to applesauce consistency - typical advice but you will see what happens if you don't! -
73 days post op - no real issues now, but "never trust a fart" early on! 😎

Hiatal Hernia repair & Revision from sleeve to bypass on 1/21/2019
GettinSkinnywithit replied to beautiful12no's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had severe reflux pre-op, after getting RNY and the hiatel hernia repaired, no issues with reflux at all. -
Post surgery how does full feel
GettinSkinnywithit replied to Lillymunster's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I never felt like I would stretch my pouch but did feel full early on from water. I can still feel full from drinking my protein shakes too quickly. It is a much different feeling then solid food and passes much quicker as the liquid goes through the pouch pretty easy. With food I got the foamies and threw up (3x's, twice from chicken not chewed enough), no pain, just up and out! -
popsicles, broth, flavored water all worked for me. Good luck - the first month is tough but it gets better. Set a reminder to sip your liquids if needed.

Hydration and exercise after bypass

Hi friend - yes all is well! I'm past the two month mark, over the regret and adjusting well. Currently down 50 lbs and clicking every day! -
Here we go
GettinSkinnywithit replied to GettinSkinnywithit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
76 day update. Things are going very well. Moved into a new home just over a month after surgery - and it's two stories - moving was interesting post surgery with lifting restrictions. I am down over 50 lbs since I started, 42 from the day of surgery. Other then my scars and the occasional oops I shouldn't have eaten that or I should have chewed more, I don't feel a lot different, just smaller. I can hear a lot more rumbling/bubbling as things drop out of my pouch. The comments from friends and co-workers is nice but I hate the "how are you doing it" conversations, since the Hiatal Hernia is my cover story. I do feel like I have lost more muscle then I wanted and plan to get back to the gym as soon as hunting season is over. One huge plus is my relationship with my wife couldn't be any better, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I will say the first two months of regrets are real. I knew many experienced them and I was prepared but when the finality of the decision hits after surgery and there is no going back, coupled with the physical changes of quick weight loss, the experience is real. I never felt depressed, watching the scale drop numbers daily is a good motivator, but definitely went through weeks of regret for doing it. My neighbor who had RXY eight years ago was awesome during this time to keep me motivated. This is about the same time I quit checking BP daily. One aversion I have developed is water which sucks. I was an avid plain water drinker pre-op and now I can't get it down without crystal light. I do need to watch what I eat and how quickly as I am now fearful of stretching my pouch too soon and eating too much. Last weekend I ate an entire piece of tombstone pizza along with a bowl of salad and never had any ill effects. Business is kicking way up, I've hired five new sales persons but I will try and come by more often since BP was a huge asset for me pre-op. -
Calorie Intake
GettinSkinnywithit replied to Mary Sarah Smith's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My NUT basically said I should be eating my month so two months out two ounces, three months out three ounces, six months six ounces. The goal is to lose weight not see how much you can eat and prematurely stretch your pouch. You don’t want to go through surgery and not lose all the weight. -
Anyone have no issues with plain water?
GettinSkinnywithit replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Preop I was huge plain water drinker. About three weeks post op my tastes changed and now crystal light is the only way I can drink water. From my research these changes are mostly temporary. Go with the flow, do what you need to do so you can reach your goals and don’t over think it. The first couple months after surgery are NOT reflective of how you will live the rest of your life. -
How long dis it take to see your stomach go down
GettinSkinnywithit replied to shany1567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Six weeks post RNY and down 40 lbs and still have a stomach. I’m the same shape just smaller overall and down two sizes. -
Protein shakes...
GettinSkinnywithit replied to Prpchub88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn’t do the premier ready to drink protein drinks. For years I’ve used the muscle tech chocolate whey protein from sams club but post surgery it lost its luster but find adding a scoop of PB protein powder made it taste very good and 28 grams of protein. -
Puking: Post-Op vs. Pre-Op
GettinSkinnywithit replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So preop my vomits, were monumental. Actually bruised my throat once and one time it was so forceful it sprayed down when it hit the back of my front teeth. I know tmi but now, one month post op I’ve had two episodes. Last week I ate one two many bites of mashed potatoes and thank god I was next to the sink. It’s weird it’s a foamy frothy mess and it came up quick. Second time was yesterday at work pot luck lunch. My biggest fear post op is a work episode from either end. I was good and fine but an hour later wandered into the kitchen and ate two Chick-fil-A nuggets and one mini corn dog nugget looking thing. I thought I could make it throw the breading - nope! I felt the chest pain and left to walk around outside. Fortunately there is a Park next door. Waking wasn’t helping and I knew it was coming up quick so I dove behind a bush stop for one step let her rip and kept waking. I don’t think anyone noticed or even heard. I’ve also been lucky that the other end issue has only been constipation twice and not at work. I’m not a work pooper - in fact Home Depot has clean restrooms five minutes away - so I’ve been lucky there. My stuff smelled way worse preop! -
