Any May bypass patients - State and Date?
Frustr8 replied to OUBrett's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm still hoping to join you guys but it would have to be the last week, otherwise June**July. Mount Vernon Ohio 48 miles NE of Columbus where I'll have my surgery at OSU-Wexner Medical Center. I'm 72, don't know know my surgeon's name but if you'd like to send them a sympathy card I'm sure they would understand. This is my 3rd bucking bronco in the Weigh Loss Rodeo and this time I'm not going be thrown off, I'm going to get me the Blue Ribbon RnY surgery😝💤😝 -
Well move over cause here I come, may take me a minute, I'm coming clear from Ohio and I'm not as speedy as I once was. Like Toby Keith I'm still good once as I ever was, like Travis Tritt I'd like to be 10 foot tall and bulletproof. But no surgeon better try to be mean to me, I can shoot a 22 and downed a 10 and half point buck with a heart shot, using hubs gun he thought I couldn't shoot. Did you realize, and i pointed this out to Mr Precious who,is now the late lamented, people and deer have roughly the same size and shape chest cavity? This means if I can down a deer with a heart shot, he had better mind his PS and Qs. Thought since I usually went squirrel hunting I couldn't hit anything bigger. Miranda Lambert got it right,I am H*** on Heels, red-headed and spunky. I may be 72 but I won't go peacefully. Imagine Reba McEntire on steroids, sure you still want to invite me? There must have been a fair amount of Ohioians at the Alamo, if not it must have been travel constraints. like I have 😝

Remember your pen name-you are now ready for the new me! You won't need to write out your will, people don't and won't die from such a surgery, these days. Darlin' I'm 72 if anyone is going to have a chance of dying,it would be me not you! I'm not scared so you surely should NOT be. Surgery now, unlike the "Bad Old Days" which I am old enough to remember is like a stroll in the park. I have had multiple surgeries, since 2014 I have had 5 and my bariatric one still to go. So if anyone can give you testimony c'est moi! Okay since you're still scared s***less, let's just relax a little. Now you've met your surgeon, I am going to assume a good he or she doctor. Surgeons, although they can act certainmy a little pushy at times, are very very smart doctors. Their pushiness is nothing more than educated bravery, you have to be brave to cut people open and sew them up again. Let's hope you've developed a level of friendship and trust. Okay this friend will,do their level best to be make sure you have a smooth safe surgery. You want it, they want it so you know it's going to happen just that way. Okay, the night before you may not sleep well, perfectly normal, your mind will be working overtime, happens to all of us.You are going to be NPO from midnight on, no drinkee, no eatee. What I have done and I bet you will too- I go around and kiss everyone while they sleep. Yes you are doing this surgery for YOU but also so you can be still here for them. You're a mom.,this is what you do. Get some rest, in the morning go to the hospital or clinic, put a smile on your face and tuck hope into your heart. You will meet a,lot of nurses and techs, everyone of them kind c and nice people. Change into a gown, go tinkle one more time, I always need to every time, curl up. on your bed, relax, keep that darn smile on your face. I worked in and on the edges of nursing for 25 years, yes they will still take care of you but a pleasant acting patient gets all the perks, those nurses appreciate it. They will come start an IV, they are super good at what they do, but if you have what I have, veins that "roll" gently warm them Once they had to use an " airplane" needle to keep mine secure. These are used normally in pediatrics for scalp veins on small kids, they have a little plate so they lay flat. But I'm diverting from my subject, aren't I? You may start to get sleepy now,but maybe you're still alert. Pretty soon you'll be rolling down the hall and off to your Date with Destiny. Now Operating Theatre are as a rule cold-ish. I accused my ortho one time of doing it deliberately. You may see your surgeon before you go to sleep, you may not. I've had it both ways. You may remember sliding over into the table, you may not. One of mine, I had a broken limb being surgically reduced, they told me to pull myself over, I responded that if I could do that, I wouldn't be there. Last thing I remember was them. stretching my arms to the side and securing them. I mention this because they may do that for you. Sometimes the anesthesiologist asks you to count backwards, often you're already going to sleep. Didn't mind my arms being secured, made me feel they were keeping,me safe. And then you go smoothly to sleep, the next thing you remember is waking up,in recovery. Remember to ask for an anti nausea patch behind your ear, it does help. Your tummy may feel tender, but it may not. Everybody has a different story at this point. There will be a lot of techs and nurses scurrying around but right now you are the star and they'll take super good care of you. When you are recovered and stable enough you'll go back to your room, you may have an cathetet, you may not. If not get up, move around, go to the bathroom, you'll start on your walkies, sippies and still smile,as much,as possible. You've made it through and everything will get better day by day. And that my,love, is just how it's going to be! Feel a little less nervous? Goody! Now remember to post as soon as you feel like it, we love to be updated and we all will celebrate with you. And when my Bariatric Day comes as it will in a month or so you'll be able to nod your head and say "I remember That!" Hugs and a kiss on the cheek for the future. your friend Frust8

Hey Bariatric peeps of a Certain Age- things turning, sunny for me after a dark dismal patch of time. OSU not only wants me, their staff psychologist Dr Kramer says they will be thrilled to have me, I not only, passed but we had a nice chat. He pointed out things in my emotional past I thought might be failings and/or detriments, those are strengths I can fall back on and utilize for my success in this endeavor. He said, with my permisson, he'd like to follow my,on-going story into the future. He believes I will be a success, I believe I will be a success and now it is full speed ahead to the finish! World🌏 just watch me fly straight and true now!

Maybe it's Speilberg but you know what I mean! -
I think they should give out T shirts that say that. "OMG WHAT DID I JUST DO TO MYSELF?" At best it must be a mental, physical and emotional shock to the system.Yeah Mattymatt I really haven't gone through it yet but I am a great empathizer, I can feel it. And if you have already fought the blue fog of depression it has to hit you worse. I am thankful to have you and this forum. If you try to talk to an outsider their response will be "Well if you didn't want it, you shouldn't have had it" it is not that at all, it is hard to come to terms with it and depressive already have a built-in " limp", it makes it harder for us to run. But we will, things will smooth out, we will each find the terms to handle it, move with it. And, guess what? We are going to be alright, better persons and we confidently can face what's ahead. And Matty matt you may remind me of this later when the whimwahs hit, you have my full permission. 😝Your bud Frust8

Oh O&D the mental picture I just got. Location: Garden of Eden. Principal Players Eve-Snake-perfectly Ripe Pear. Over at one side scribe with steno pad of papyrus. Can't spell "pear", jots down "Apple" and the rest is Biblical History. Just call me Steven Steinberg, I can visiualize and plot it all!😍 -
Outstanding news for all 3 of you! Congratulations and happy May wishes in each of your cases😝😍😝

You are a soul sibling to me and I thank, you for this message. Just right message for me and it comes at the right time. Little things were getting me down. As an example,i have been fighting sinusitis for a month plus. Woke up needing to sneeze and blow my nose. I have no less than 3 tissue boxes, but nary a one is next to my bed where I last put them. So off to the living room I go sniffling all way and calling curses down on the family member who moved everything. I really love my family members, would usually do,everything in my power for them, but at this point , enough is enough and it is "Put ME First" time, lol most of the time, but for 30 seconds I VE HAD IT! Sunshine and smiles for your day and mine.😝

Tome off work - how much??
Frustr8 replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah in most cases you can return to working sooner, this way if you have any problems they have reserved the right to say "Ha Ha, I told you so!" A case similar from my own life. I had a leg fracture, doctor signed for me to return to work at 6 weeks, I continued to have difficulties with said leg. At follow-up appointment doctorbtells me I didn't want you to return to work that soon, I gave you the return to work slip because I thought you would expect it. I had not requested that slip in the first place. The type of insurance I had at this place was similar to, but not AFLAC, would, have paid for a leg fracture up to 4 months disability. I would have continued to receive money and my leg in all likelihood would not have healed with a detectable limp. Oh but hindsight is 20/20, and his vision for,my future wasn't. Wish I could have kicked his shin and given him the limp!😲 -
I guess that does make sense to insurance providers, as only a providee it seems warped and weird.doesn't it?

That's okay, offer still holds good for post surgery questions also. An example-my hospital, wants me to,go on a 6 meal diet, well really 3 meals 3 snacks, no more than 2.5-3 hrs between, I drew a temporary blank on good lower cal snacks. One of our veterans weighed in and gave me some good advice. We all need help at times.

What are you addicted to...like really, truly, mess with your brain addicted?

Newest Mountain Dew taste "ice". FYI most Mountain Dees contain Brominated Vegetable Oil , it's in there to keep the colors from separating. But an additional FYI, BROMINATED VEGETABLE OIL is also used as a flame retardant. I think it might mean as long as you drink, plenty of Mountain Dew you'll never catch,on fire. Other things to give up, my homemade oatmeal soft cookies made with brown cane sugar. And cheesy, potatoes in any form, scalloped au-gratin , boiled with a cheese sauce or my homemade cheesy potato soup, with onions and celery cooked in it. Pauvre Moi!😖 -
Shoulder pain is usally from, leftover gas from surgery pooling up under your diaphragm. You get the referred pain in your left shoulder. I could go into a 15 minute tutorial on Embreology, anybody want to hear it? Nope didn't think so, leftover from the way you developed before birth, that's why you feel diaphragm pain in your shoulders, usually left and fall bladder pain is in upper right back and shoulder. The Bible says in Psalms that we were strange and wonderously made and the Psalmist knew what he was talking about. There are a lot of weird feelings and twinges you'll feel after surgery but in the kind run they don't count for, much, what does matter is fittness, better health, loss of weight,, and a happier outlook on life. And lessenng of the problems obesity brings, a win win situation. You are young enough your skin will smooth out and snap back into shape. At 72 I'll have so much skin I'll look like a Shar Pei, but better a live Shar Pei than lying dead in a casket. Besides people love and pay a lot of money for Shar Peis. I could win a blue ribbon in the Recycled People Show.😨💤

Welcome to Kangaroo-land where everyone has or will have pouches. I am the self appointed Welcome Wagon here in this corral. I am a perpetual pre-surgery hoping to change my status SOON. I started out seeking Bariatric Surgery in August 2015. My journey has had more ups, more downs, more hairpin twists and turns than a Coney Island Roller Coaster. But soon I'm going to be all better and I'll get the surgery I have threatened to do myself with a box cutter, fishing line, some hair clips and a Swingline stapler. The lucky hospital that will be receiving my business is Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center,in Columbus Ohio. There are 2 main bariatric surgeon's there, Dr Needleman(male) and Dr Noria(female). not sure which one will be mine. Maybe they'll have a dart game and the winner(or loser?) gets me. I suspect it will be Dr Needleman, he is the senior partner and, As a rule, does the older patients. But I am not always right and if,Dr Noria is the winner I will be happy to work with her. I so want this long journey to be completed, but in the meantime I hang around being friends with one and all. Do you have any questions you need answered? I've had a long wait so have studied up on a lot of facets to things. Also I am old enough to,be everyone's mother, grandmother or even great grandmother so I have a bunch of life experiences to fall back on. There are people on here from 18 up to and including my age,*72*. And we all love to help each other if we can. So please hang around and get to know us all🌹😝🌹

Welcome and please stay and hang around RHCD. A lot of very nice people on the April Sleeve forum. We'll celebrate your victories, sympathize with your trials and sustain you all along the Weight loss journey. To be technical I'm a missionary from the RnY side of life but this is how I look at things. You sleevers may be Army, my bypassers may be Navy but we are all allies in the Weight Loss Wars and we all sustain each other. And to use a trite phrase "Some of My Best Friends are Sleevers"!😝

Hi. 1st surgeon meeting tomorrow
Frustr8 replied to Rachel816's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And@Ylime while reading your above instructions, all of which are great, I realized something. I never really liked my ex-surgeon. He never felt like a friend, I felt an inate wariness while in his presence. Well, I said to myself, you don't have to love the man, you are here for his surgical skill, his technical knowledge. But I never felt comfortable with him, we had no degree of friendship, and maybe we never clicked. And maybe the lack,of relationship, was his fault, not mine. I have beat myself mentally thinking the fault was mine but having had this moment of clarity, I can go forward with a clear conscience for truly the fault does not lie within me. I can now have a wonderful😷 surgery ahead and I feel freed!👰 -
And @browneyez42 may each following day be your day too😝

So true Mattymatt!
