September 2019 🍂🍁
Frustr8 replied to Repeatingthoughts's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Will want to hear more of your story and if it turns out to be September 5th, that is my one-year Surgiversity and I would be honored from now on to share That Date with YOU! -
Well I am a happier camper tonight. TODAY I bought my first pair of Junior-sized Capri leggings. Okay, they are a 19 but in the NSV world we live in thats a Big ✌ Victory. Did not have to jump up and down to get into, didn't have to lie down on a bed to pull up or zipper them. Don't laugh ,my peeps, but they slid right on smoothly. Just enough snugness that it was like shapewear and smoothed my blobby globby thighs into smoothness, and if I say so, I look pretty good. Now I want another pair, these are red like a bandana, maybe a navy blue or grey Heather? Less than $4 in price, so wouldn't strain my budget to buy another. And back when I was a 28-30 W I would never believe I could achieve this before my 1st year was up. Don't know if I'm brave enough to wear them out in public, even though I have seen people who must have been dressed by someone who hated them severely. But even if I am at the upper edge, I once again am a Junior-sized person. Yippee Yahoo!

Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?
Frustr8 replied to Zemi's topic in The Gals' Room
Yeah nobody mentioned anything about ulcers and stricturing in my pre-surgery classes. Maybe it's rare but it happened to ME! -
And I want to see our pal out in the garden with a small butterfly net, cricket- hunting ! Quick, to your right, I think I see one! LOL

Every time I see your picture I sort of jerk, you look enough like me to be my son or grandson, imagine an older female version of you and you've seen me,probably could identify me in a line up! Strange, isn't it? -
Well then MRS GAMGEE is healing to distraction, isn't she?

Well doggone, it seemed a good idea at the time! No I wouldn't want such a cute dude getting sick. The more I look at him, the cuter he gets, I just might demand visiting rights if I lived closer!

Try Domboro soaks, a little secret for you, its basically oatmeal, take washcloths your choice of 1 or 2. put oatmeal inside, stitch it closed, use it in a tub bath or coolish shower like you would a regular washcloth, no soaps, try Cetaphil, I'm pretty certain it should be,obtainable North of the Border, that's what I had to use for my eczema- ridden wee one's bathing. Just a couple old lady suggestions, can't harm, & it might help!

Hey , you know spinach has iron but I'm pretty sure it also has calcium. And small tender spinach leaves taste pretty goid, or they did back when I could handle salads!

Thanks, Darling, I'll count on it!

What Food Is Your Kryptonite?
Frustr8 replied to MrsGamgee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine is Simply Cheetos White Cheddar Puffs, I try to stay away . The 2 times I had any I limited me to 4 , well under what is considered a serving, but they are pleasant to my tongue👅and rather seductive! Put them in Tomkitten's room, he accused me of trying to prolong his weight disparage, nope not my thought, I just wanted to put them where they didn't try to get my attention! -
Oh I bet it will be merely a speed bump. Mine also had the problem that I am 73 and don't heal as quickly as younger people. But I will still join you in Healthier- Land, you are going to get there first, but save me a place, I still plan on joining YOU!❤

Food Before and After Photos
Frustr8 replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My friends at Wally World never minded Melon Thumpers in produce, what they disliked was the grape sqeezers, tomato punchers and the banana bruisers, especially when they can be seen on closed circuit or actually while you're working. Wouldn't happen? I can testify it does, I used to work Fabrics and Crafts, watched a woman pick up a Styrofoam ball, score it with her fancy artificial nail, then bro g it to me and ask that I lower it in price. I hid behind the fact I was not the Department Manager and wouldn't be permitted to do such a thing. No reverberations so I guess she didn't find anyone else to do it for her. End of Day I had to " claim" it out because no one else would want it either. Fairly cheap valuation but it was the larcenous action demonstrated by someone" dressed to kill", not poor by any means ! But she was was. a minority; most people aren't like that! -

In the Land of 5-9-12 TV stations, the Reds, the Bengals and Football Club Cincinnati? Glad to meet and Greet You! I'm clear up in Central Ohio, in Mount Vernon, I do Bleed Scarlet and Gray, have the t-shirt to prove it so of course my surgery was at OSU. When I got re- hospitalized in late November I told anyone who would listen " I prayed from the time I was 5 for GOD to let me cone to Ohio State. I should have specified the Educational Plant but not the HOSPITAL!" it was still OKAY, my room overlooked Ohio Stadium, yeah I got to watch OSU- Michigan Game, went back and forth from TV to looking at the crowds . And had a good seat ---all things considered! And I am much better, much thinner now! -
Hey they are so ugly they are doggone cute! Hey Tomkitten , can Mama get a pet Bearded Dragon? I didn't hear you say NO, did i?😜🐲🐊🐲

Central Ohio, actually 14 miles from the Geographical Center, Centerburg, where my Late Mama graduated from the small High School there in (shudder( 1935. This indicates I too am older than dirt! I turned 73 last December 26th, Looked up your profile, you actually live in Carrollton, the crown jewel of Carroll County. I had a friend, haven't heard from her for a while, she claimed to be from Salem but in actuality Hanoverton. When her hubby died he was buried in the cemetery there. I actually live in Mount Vernon, population 20,000, birthplace of Daniel Decatur Emment, author of "Dixie , Dr James Semple, a dentist who helped invent chewing gum, he actually thought it would whiten his patients teeth and Paul Lynde , actor who was in Bye Bye Birdie and also played Uncle Arthur on Bewitched. Now the home of me, don't always make the headlines but in the last 2 weeks had 2 drownings in the Kokosing, our main river, one recovered, too bad , I knew the guys mother pretty well, graduated from High School with his Dad, Mark was only 40. The next week a 15 year old from Columbus drowned on a vacation trip up here. Both times the water was deep, and like many Ohio. rivers , treacherous. They think they found him in Dresden, if so he made it past Walhonding , Coshocton and into the Muskingum, a far piece by anyone's standards. Awaiting an autopsy, think they are doing it in Zanesville instead of sending him over to Columbus. I wouldn't even wade in the Kokosing at High Water levels and I know it better than most! But by and large, I am doing reasonably well after my surgery , 170+ pounds down from my High weight, 120+ since my surgery close to 10 months ago. Started at the High Morbid Obesity BMI of 52, now down to just under 200 and BMI 31.1, at 30 I will be merely Overweight- not Obese any more and Never Again! Even if portions of me look like a balloon somebody blew up and let the air out of, it's worth it. I can hide that under clothes. My complaint is: once I lost my double chins, chipmunk cheeks and shrunk body parts including my neck and arms, now tummy and rump, I'll be Ding Dang Donged who I actually resemble cause I sure don't look like ME anymore! Tomkitten keeps telling me " You're still beautiful to ME!" might believe him more if the opthamologist hadn't recently fitted him with glasses! Oh Well, it is what it is! -
September 5th 2018 at exactly 7 AM. EDT. the Ohio State University- WEXNER MEDICAL Center 410 W 10th Avenue Columbus Ohio. I live in Mount Vernon, a smallish city of 20,000 48 miles NE of Columbus, which was the absolute closest facilities offering RNY. No Big Thing in the long run, I ended up with the Big Kahuna , Bradley J NeedlemanMD, the chief of Bariatric Medicine and Metabolic Weight Loss, a full professor in the College of Medicine, and actually a pretty wonderful guy to know as well as a Perfect Surgeon. When I was having my pre- surg physical which my son Tomkitten accomplied me to, he went over, shook TK's hand and said "I promise, I WILL TAKE VERY GOOD CARE of your mother!" Didn't have to do that, but he read my situation correctly, knew it would give TK and I peace of mind to make such a promise. How am I recovering? Ah, a very loaded question! Now keep in mind what happened to me is a pretty rare occurance, in all of Bariatric- Pal-dom there are maybe 4 others currently. To back up a little I went into my surgery with an ulcer, I named him, as I do many of my possessions, Hector, a small and not ready to perforate gastric ulcer,i was on a stronger PPI (protein pump inhibitor) called Dexilent, lucky for me insurance covered because without it would be over $300 monthly for a once a day med. I made it very clear to Dr Needleman that I was a proven Ulcer Grower. Well after my surgery they prescribed Omeprazole , the very one I was taking when Hector was discovered by my gastroenterologist at that time Dr Mujataba, pronounced Moo Shah Ba. I hollered" What are You doing to ME ?" Was figuratively told to just shut my mouth, they had done many cases, THIS would work best. Wrong Wrong Wrong! At 2 weeks I restarted complaining, told them SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG! And I got all kinds of replies, I was impatient, delusional, still merely swollen inside. But I kept up complaining , finally I suspect to shut me up, they scheduled an Endoscopy on October 12th, when I woke up Dr Noria,my surgeon's Junior partner shook my hand . She said Congratulations , you were right, we were wrong , you have 3 ulcers within your pouch, the opening is strictured down, you have 5 additional on the back wall of your jejunem, the portion of small intestine your pouch is now fastened to and they look ANGRY. Now sleeves seldom ever stricture and even the average RNY diesbt as a rule. And we have been trying to heal them since, I take Carafate 6am- noon- 6pm- midnight for what seems like forever. Frequent endoscopy to check the status, took turn for worse the end of November, malnourished and anemic of protein. Had a PICC line inserted in my upper left arm the next day, was on TPN ,that's total parental nutrition , for 3 months 12 hours a day. Was finally taken off of it the end of February, although I had been steadily losing a pound o4 2 monthly, I dropped 30 pounds in a month, in March I required an Iron INFUSION, would have thought I was due another in June but nobody interested enough to have ordered complete blood labs yet. I started at 365+ and BMI of 52, at nearly 10 months I have lost down to BMI31.1 and just under 200 pounds. So I are doing well if not perfect, and even if I Had known the bumps, bruises, twists and turns to my journey, I WOULD DO IT AGAIN in a❤beat, the positives still outweigh the detriments. Why did I not elect the VSG, I needed the certainty of quicker weight loss, I have had arthritis since 25, horrid GERD, sleep apnea, and had a First Cousin , my June-Ellen die on the operating table at the Cleveland Clinic of previously undiagnosed Esophageal Carncer, was there a hereditary component? Not perfectly certain but why take that risk when the Gold Standard of Bariatric Surgery was available? Medicare/ Medicaid picked up the tab for one surgery, would they pay later for a revision? Doubtful!!!❤ So I would say my surgery had a 85-90% percent success, still a high B+grade if not a Full A, and the story isn't over, I may still make it ALL THE WAY! I am optimistic, I came too far to stop progressing, this tired old jalopy at 73, still quite a few miles left in me, even if I'm not a Ferrari, DON'T COUNT ME OUT! I will make it to VICTORY yet! ❤and a Great Big Hug -----FRUSTR8
