Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
fullfiguredmonty replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a rough go with gastric sleeve. I was sleeved on 5/16 and had to have emergency gall bladder surgery 5/21. It took me awhile to recover and start to feel normal again at least 6-8 weeks. After I started to feel normal I started having severe numbness and pain in my calves and feet and was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy likely due to rapid weight loss and vitamin deficiency. Prior to surgery I was healthy outside of my obesity and I got surgery to avoid health problems in the future and it created (hopefully temporary) problems for me. (Side note my mother died 7/7 as well). The plus is I'm doing everything they tell me to do. I'm taking extra vitamins, doing acupuncture, and the gym 3x per week despite the pain. I also started an instagram to document my progress, provide a distraction, and get support. I will persevere despite the calamities of my life! My HW: 417, SW: 365, CW 286. -
How are the May sleevers doing?
fullfiguredmonty replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm down 55lbs which I feel good about. However, I don't yet have the energy, endurance, and strength I had prior to surgery which is super frustrating for me. I have returned to my personal trainer and am hoping I can say differently in the next few months. -

Hey everyone! I was sleeved on May 16th and have had a rough go of it. A day or two after I got home I starting having these intense heartburn 10/10 pains for hours at a time. I went to the ER the following Monday and found out I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery which happened on May 21st. I spent about 30 hours in 8/10 or higher pain. It go to the point where I was screaming in pain for hours on end. I have never hurt so bad in my life. I was never given a clear explanation as to why this happened to me. Prior to sleeve I was completely healthy outside of my obesity and low vitamin D. I now have these bruises popping up all over my body. I called the surgeon yesterday and he's wondering if I have a bleeding disorder. I have NEVER had issues with bleeding. I'm supposed to try and have a f/u this week with someone on the team. I had some heartburn and vomited on Saturday so he also told me to stay on full liquids for a couple more days because I may not be quite ready (I'd had an egg, a table spoon of peanut butter, and an ice pop that day). I guess the good news is that I've lost 19lbs since my surgery. Overall though, I feel discouraged about this whole process and hope that in a couple of weeks I feel more normal. Right now I feel physically weak and every time I have even a minor pain I'm afraid it's going to turn into that 10/10 pain I had prior to the gallbladder surgery.

Sleeved May 16th
fullfiguredmonty replied to fullfiguredmonty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG...you guys...apparently my pain was not normal. I went to the ER Monday, had emergency surgery on Tuesday, and got discharged today. Apparently, I developed blood clots in my gall bladder. I was never told the cause, but I was told to stop my blood thinning med. When I tell you that I spent 30 hours in intense pain with at least 10-12 of those hours screaming I tell no lie. The pain was unbelievable and the surgeon said that my pain level was normal for what was wrong with me. It redefined my pain scale. -

Sleeved May 16th
fullfiguredmonty replied to fullfiguredmonty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nausea has been at a minimum (knocking on wood) so far today. I haven't been able to do 60g of protein since surgery. I think at most I've gotten through 15g of liquid. I'm going to try and do more today. I'm getting my mini walks in, by walking up and down the hallway. No walking outside yet due to low energy and rainy days. -

Thanks everyone for your replies. The support here is amazing. I just got hit with a strong sudden nausea/heartburn pain that went across my chest. I spent the last 5 minutes walking up and down my hallway hoping that it would pass. It is finally easing off. That's the worst I've felt since I was in the hospital. I'll keep reminding myself that somewhere between 2-4 weeks I'll feel like a normal person again. -

What would you define as a "sip"

I'm a 3 sipper as well. -
Hey everyone, I was sleeved on May 16, 2018 and am now home. When I first woke up from surgery I was hit with severe 10/10 nausea some of the worst I've ever experienced. My first thought was WTF did I do to myself! That's how bad it was. It is now more controlled, but I'm wary of it coming back. My surgery was at 7:30 in the morning and I was released about 3 pm the following afternoon. My blood pressure was high the entire time I was in the hospital (my BP is usually normal), but they said that was likely due to CO2 and fluids. My largest incision hurts everytime I stand and begin moving. It feels like it's ripping in half and burning, but when I look at it it appears normal. I try to get up and walk every hour as directed. I just finished sitting up for 2 hours, but I am now laying down because I get tired very easily. I hope that's normal. I would say my overall energy level is about 30% of normal at best. That's my update for now. Hope any recent sleevers are feeling good.

Did anyone have to do lovenox injections?
fullfiguredmonty replied to Bryn910's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was only given the shots in the hospital and then they have switched me to a pill that I have to crush and take 2x per day. -
Nauseous all the time!
fullfiguredmonty replied to JShively1993's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got sleeved on May 16th and my nausea has greatly outweighed the pain I have in my body. The first day was terrible. They gave me zofran as well and then they ran the gamut on what they gave me at the hospital. They gave me this shot called compazine ( I think) and it cleared it all up. The zofran at home seems to be doing better since then at keeping nausea to a minimum. I find if I lay totally flat though it increases my nausea. -

Intro time: who's new to the group, who's pre-op, & who just recently made it to the loser's bench?
fullfiguredmonty replied to xoxococojay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I was scheduled for surgery for 5/16, they originally tried to get me in for 5/7 after my appointment today, but that was a little too quick for me to get off work. Side note, I still haven't received official paperwork from the insurance company that I have been approved, but the hospital said they received the approval (they won't let you schedule for your preop with the surgeon until you get it). Should I be worried? Or just allow myself to shamelessly celebrate briefly before I muscle my way through the liquid diet. -

Found out I was approved for surgery on Friday! I have my pre-op surgery appointment on May 1 and hopefully will get a surgery date at that meeting. -

Had what is supposed to be my last pre-op appointment today. They are submitting my paperwork and then she said it's 1-3 weeks before I hear back from my insurance company. At that point they will call me and I can schedule a presurgery appointment with the surgeon (they are usually booked a couple weeks out), and then from that appointment, my surgery date will likely be 3-4 weeks from that point. So, it sounds like worse case is another couple of months for me assuming I'm not denied. I plan to try and document everything as I go through this journey. I think it'll help me to stay accountable and allow myself to receive support (I suck at allowing others to support me, but always want to support them).
