    Goodbye celebration

My nutritionist suggested a “Last Supper”. I was so flipping sick afterwards. I guess she recommended it so I wouldn’t cheat. I had coffee tonight and I am about to die.
  2. Thank you so much. My brother and his wife and my son and his wife have all had it done. I have a pretty amazing support system. I live a long way from my surgeon so my primary care will be doing all follow up. Saw him this morning and will see him one more time before surgery. I am most excited to know that Saturday night as I start the total clear liquid part of the pre-op diet I will take my insulin pump off for the last time.

    Aetna and BMI at 40

I am in health care and it makes about as much sense as mud. 1st. Not all Aetna plans cover weight loss surgery. It is specific to your policy. 2nd. You must have a BMI if greater than 40. If your BMI is between 35-40 you have to have one of the following. A. High Blood Pressure not controlled by a minimum of 3 medications. B Heart disease like coronary artery disease. C Type 2 Diabetes. 3rd. You have to have been part of a doctor supervised weight loss program for at least 6 months during the last 2 years and been in one for at least 90 continuous days. So basically if your policy covers it and your BMI is greater than 40 and you have been under a doctor supervised weight loss plan for 6 months at any time during the past 2 years they should approve it.
  4. My weight loss journey started 30 years ago. I have had some successes and lots of failures. One week from today I will have my wls. I am super excited and scared at the same time.
  5. I do completely understand your frustrations but we have not all walked in the others shoes. I smoked forever and tried and tried to quit for many years. Then one day I threw them out and was done. All the times I tried to quit and failed made me feel even worse. It is what it is and I can now say I used to smoke. As for following the diet it is a lot harder for some than others. I am a week out from surgery and I have followed the diet and cried a lot of days. Today I ate a piece of chocolate. Again it is what it is. If I could just put food down and walk away I wouldn’t need this surgery, but I can’t so I am. On the other hand doctors and the industry set “Best Practice” guidelines for their patients to follow. They do it because these are the best to follow. They know through extensive research that smoking slows the healing process and when you are talking about having a ton of stitches (staples) in your stomach they advise you to stop because it is what’s best. As for “cheating” on the pre-op diet. The purpose is to shrink your liver so the doctor has better access to your stomach. They want your colon cleaned out because they don’t want you getting constipated, it is already a possibility. There is also a risk of aspiration, vomiting while asleep and inhaling it into your lungs. This could cause pneumonia. The president-op is hard. I am still a big girl with a big girl stomach and my big stomach wants to be full. Good luck

Getting Ready to go to Mexico for Surgery

I will be there March 6th.
  7. I will be leaving in a week to go to Tijuana for surgery because my insurance had a clause in it that won’t pay for any weight loss surgery. I have battled my weight my entire life and I had to do something. I am a diabetic that takes a ton of insulin. My primary care and endocrinologist suggested weight loss surgery because it has been so successful in putting diabetes in remission. So after a lot of research I have decided to have the surgery in Tijuana. I am so excited and scared at the same time. My brother, sister in law, son and daughter in law have all had the surgery done in the United States and have lost a ton of weight. Any opinions.

    Halo top ice cream

I love it. I am still pre surgery. I ate it when I was dieting. I had a few bites when I craved ice cream.

    Why no caffeine

I so feel your pain. I love coffee!! Love it! Stopping it was so hard and almost impossible. I talked to my nutritionist and she said to slowly wean myself off coffee during the 2 week pre-op diet so I don’t get headaches following surgery. They really want you to stay away from coffee after surgery because of the acid it produces until all those staples heal. I am now down to one cup a day from 4 to 8. This week I will come off completely. I do find that now I get headaches occasionally. When I absolutely can’t stand them I make a cup and take a few swallows.
