Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
balrog429 replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Another thing I’ve found that has been really helpful is using the spirometer as they directed. It got the gas moving and my lungs back up to normal. -
Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital

Glad to see you’re out of the hospital. My dr. gave me antacid medication that I have to take for a month. I forgot about it yesterday and found out why he gave it to me. Ouch. Anyway, once I took it everything was fine. Might be something to ask your dr. about to help you with the heartburn. -
Had my surgery today and am feeling great! No issues at all. Was walking as soon as I got to my room. Getting my lungs a workout with the spirometer. Full steam ahead.

Thanks everyone! Still feeling great.

40 something sleevers?
balrog429 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 41 and haven’t been sleeved yet. My date is September 7th so it’s getting close. I previously had the lap band but the complications forced me to have it removed. Looking forward to this new stage. -
Ok guys I have a question. I’ve been approved for VSG on September 7th I’ve been reading the forums and have seen a lot of posts about weight regain following VSG over the long term. My doctor initially wanted to do the DS but I told him I felt more comfortable with the sleeve. He told me that the DS has a more rapid initial weight loss, but over the long term both surgeries are similar in weight loss according to current data. So I guess my question is, is VSG a surgery that has a higher incidence of weight regain? I realize that everyone is different, and there’s no way to definitively know the eventual success or failure outcome, I’m just trying get real life answer from those who have experience. Thanks in Advance

Hi everyone! I’ve posted this in the guys’ section but I’m hoping to get a little more feedback here. Thanks. Ok everyone, I have a question. I’ve been approved for VSG on September 7th I’ve been reading the forums and have seen a lot of posts about weight regain following VSG over the long term. My doctor (Dr. Keshishian) initially wanted to do the DS but I told him I felt more comfortable with the sleeve. He told me that the DS has a more rapid initial weight loss, but over the long term both surgeries are similar in weight loss according to current data. So I guess my question is, is VSG a surgery that has a higher incidence of weight regain? @RickM. Thanks for your response. It makes sense. I guess I’m just worried that this will not be successful long term. I had the LapBand for about 8 years and it started off great, but like others, the complications forced me to have it removed. I was successful with it until the removal, so I am of the mindset that I will be able to stick to the new way of eating. Without the band now it just seems like I don’t get full. I’ve always wondered if it is because of the residual effects of the band. My doctor told me if I want to switch to the DS he would be comfortable with doing it , and that ultimately I have to choose the best one for me. He’s really good, from what I’ve researched one of the best in the country, so I’m confident he’s not just recommending what fits him. I just gotta make the choice.

You look great! Congratulations on such an enormous success!!

Yeah no doubt. Well I’m glad everything worked out. Now just concentrate on the post-op requirements.

Glad you’re out and doing well. What was the flemmy blood from? Did they check everything out to make sure you’re ok?

I just got word that I’m scheduled for September 7th! Pretty excited. -
Hello everyone! I’ve been pretty quite on here choosing to focus on the 6-month approval period for my insurance and plugging away at school (takes up most of my life). So after my insurance approved me I have my date for VSG on Sept. 7th. I’m excited and now have to get all the pre-op testing done. Just wanted to share my excitement. Thanks!

I just wanted to introduce myself. I’ve been on the forums in the past to read all I can about the VSG surgery. Tons of great info here. I had the lap band placed on 2008 and finally had it removed last year because of a lot of complications. Now I am on the journey to VSG. Truthfully I should had had the revision when I had the band taken out, but the surgeon was against it. Now I am tracking my weight with my Dr. to fulfill the 6 month requirement for my insurance. My goal is to have the surgery sometime in July since that’s the timeline for the insurance, but we’ll see. Im sure there are others going through this same timeline so if your looking for support count me in. [emoji16]

Yup still moving forward. I have to wait the swim months for approval so in that tome I am focusing on changing my lifestyle in relation to food. It’s difficult but I am taking it each meal at a time. For the most part I make good choices. I’m eating a lot of leafy greens, veggies, fruits, etc. but I struggle to control portion sizes. It’s gonna take some work but I’m confident I’ll get there.

Hi all! I posted this in the general forum as well, but since I’m going for VSG I figured it wouldn’t hurt to have it here as well. I just wanted to introduce myself. Wow that’s encouraging to see his continued weight loss after the band. I was pretty successful with it until the complications happened. That’s why I think I’ll do well with VSG. Does he think it’s similar?
-
That’s good. I’m thinking about just doing it on my own rather than doing a medically supervised diet because in the long run it doesn’t seem sustainable. I’d still see my PCP to track my weight loss though.

Thanks James!

That’s great! Are you working with a medically supervised weight loss program or just your regular dr?
