Have not been sick or had anything get stuck yet.(knock on wood...lol) 'The really cool part of choosing the realized band....you get special access to the website to personalize your journey. You also get good recipes, its really cool. -
Bad bander, but curious question!! ha ha
melmel replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jut wanted to say, Ebeth....basically what everyone on here is trying to say...stick with your doctors advice and I agree with that, but after reading alot of posts in the last three weeks and especiialy the ones on this thread I can see how this would make you feel terrible, but please don't let it....some people think they know everything when they don't....when it boils down to it.....we all make mistakes, we are all human, except for a select few on here who just love to constantly attack one another like animals! Get yourself back on track and follow the rules of the professionals and you will do just fine. I have faith in you and I will be praying for you and your journey. I also want to say to anyone who reads this....lets all remember that our lives as overweight people have been difficult enough....lets all stay positive, give good advice and constructive criticism, but lets be frinedly about it. We need to be here to support each other and hopefully we make friends.....not enemies! -
What part of jersey do you live in?

Hi Wendy, I live in New Jersey (right on Delaware/Jersey border) and just had surgery on 7-10-08. I had my surgery at St. Francis in Wilmington, DE. My surgeon was Dr. Wynn of Chrias. Just wondering who is your doctor and where will you have the surgery? I had a wonderful experience at St. Francis, everyone was just terrific. Good luck and if you need any advice or refereces, I would be happy to help out.

Naked Juice 38 grams of Protein

Geez, I was thinkin the same thing....I hope I can find these on the East Coast. Sounds Great for a change!! -
Hairloss does happen to alot of bypass patients. Lapband patients absord all the viatmins and nutrients that are taken in, whereas bypass patients dont. It is extremely important for you to get ALOT of protein in and take your vitamins every day. You really need to talk to a doctor/nutrionist and find out how much protein you should be consuming on a daily basis!! Good luck to you!:wink2: P.S. my doc says to get 64 fluid ounces every day and 64 grams of protein everyday.

I was banded on 7-10-08. In the first two weeks, I also experienced some back pain. I didn't even say anything to my doctor cause I thought it was normal. Now I'm in my third week post-op and I haven't had any pain for a couple days. If you are that uncomfortable and can't sleep, that definitley sounds like a red flag to me. :confused2: I would get checked out. Good luck to ya and hope your feeling better soon!

Finally Banded after 3 years - A few problems
melmel replied to Banded_7_17_08's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just had my band surgery on 7-10. My surgeon said only walking for the first 4 weeks. After that, I can do anything! Good Luck to Ya!! -
BCBS of NJ are "sticklers". I had my approval in 3 three days. They called me and sent an approval letter. I know they definitley want to see documentation that you've been cleared by a pulmonologist, cardiologist, psych doctor and had the nutrition classes (6 consecutive months). If you've done all that and your BMI is over 40 they usually always give approval, but they are strict with the documentation!! Good Luck to ya!!

My story is very similar to yours in many ways!! I was banded on July 10th and also decided not to tell anyone except for my best friend who also had w.l.s. and of course my boyfriend would know, we live together. lol :biggrin2: Of all people I would never tell my mom about the surgery because she's always made me feel like crap about myself for being heavy. When I was a little girl (under 10), I was very thin....I ate nothing....I just didn't like food. My mother would force feed me and make me feel like the outcast of my whole family becuase I didn't even sit at the holiday table with everyone else. When I started going through puberty and trying different foods....I gained weight. Once again, now she made fun of me all the time cause I was fat. She was always more worried what everyone else thought than my own feelings. Shes one of those people who worrys about looks more than whats on the inside. Anyway, what I'm trying to get at, it does hurt when more than anything we want to share our happy news with our loved ones, but sometimes we can't because of the person they are, not because of the person we are. My mom is not a bad person, but after all these years have gone by (36) I finally told my mom that I didn't like how she treated me for being heavy when I was younger, I let her know the emotinal/mental damage she did to me and she is now sorry for it. It felt good to finally let her know, I held that in for years! She thought by constantly making me miserable about being fat was gonna change the fact. I was already miserable, I sure didn't need her help....lol! :seeya: This choice that we have made is ours....and no one elses, we own the right to tell who we want. I only told two people, because I knew I could only trust those two to fully support me....and they have 100%. I also find these forums to be very helpful. I don't always post, but I read others everyday because thats what helps me. I'm also not able to get pregnant, can't figure out what's exactly wrong but I'm staying positive....I have a few years left on my clock...lol:smile: Hopefully its just a weight issue...no one really knows. Anywho, I really enjoyed reading your story as well as all the others, they keep me going...so I thank you all. Keep positive and we always have our band sisters to chat with!:thumbup:God Bless You All

your message makes me feel a little better. I'm a new jersey state employee with BCBS and was wondering if I would have any problems getting approved. I think my BMI is 46, so hopefully I will be okay. Good luck to you!
