Not getting my protein or water in
Francess replied to babu1995's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Question. once I start eating food, can I just count shakes as liquid. I can’t imagine getting enough protein without supplementing with protein shakes or protein powder. -
I’m right there with you! we can do it👍🏼
-
Congrats! Best advice is to believe everyone post surgery tomorrow who says it gets better😉 cause it does❤️

I had mine one week ago. i have had 2 food dreams with the same theme, eating something “bad” and then realizing....ooops! I’m not hungry but commercials can be a killer😖 I am doing good. Meeting my 80+protein goal, drinking 64+ oz , getting in all my vitamins. Seems like everyother day I am really full and it’s a little harder. Still love my premier protein shakes so easy to get 2 a day for 60 Protein (split into 1/3s (7am, 9, 11, 1, 3, 5). Add some protein water. I am taking Barmelt vitamins, sweet but getting use to them. Hardest is my Centrum multivitamin chewable, tastes awful😝 Need to walk more, doing my breathing spirometer. No pain or nausea. Haven’t taken anything since first day home. Slept pretty good last 2 nights. What is everyone else drinking? I finally had 1/3 cup soup. Probabably will have again tonight.

Back/shoulder rubs help gas pain. Also used a heating pad and I have a massage pad too. I also use doTerra deep blue. akso, use your hospital breathing machine .

I just smell the peppermint. I’ve only walked outside twice, today alone with the dog and didn’t get too far. I get up every hour just to move. It seems like every other day I feel bloated but I have been getting in fluids and protein. i had soup today and it was a great change from sweet shakes and protein water! also got a weird rash today? Called dr office and they think it’s probably from bandage? looking forward to getting through this liquid stage!!! what are you drinking?

Is there any iron that is not constipating?
Francess replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My surgeon prefers to give iron infusions if you get low on iron instead of pills because of the constipation issue. Plus he says the pills don’t absorb well. so maybe ask about iron infusions. -
My god......what have I done?

Getting closer to the finish line!
Francess replied to ALFxRNY's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So happy for you. It’s nice to start ticking off all the appointment boxes. It seems slow until they give you your surgery date then it rolls! Use this time to research and set a schedule. -
It gets better! Everyone at the hospital kept assuring me and it’s true. My worst was nausea. My sister is a nurse and she insists that the key is to stop the narcotics. They make me feel crappy. Go to Tylenol ASAP. the back/shoulder gas pains are the worst. I spent a lot of time requesting my husband massage my shoulder, back, and area just above breast. Helped me start burping things out. i kept a cold compress on my head the whole time in hospital. I also requested warm blankets that I placed on shoulders and cold packs for pain. The first 2 Days I walked 5x even though for awhile I got dry heaves half way down the hall. You have to use your breathing machine and walk out the gas and anesthesia. i think my doTerra oils helped too. PasTense and deep blue for back and shoulder. Digestion and peppermint for nausea. taking a shower was also helpful! getting home was the best to get rest. Impossible to rest in the hospital😳 still burmy and bloated but sooooo much better.👍🏼 My sister and husband are very good at pushing me to move...if you don’t have someone to tell you...move ! Walk! Breath!❤️

Not getting my protein or water in
Francess replied to babu1995's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This will only be day 3 in full liquid diet...so not expert 😉 Yesterday I felt “full” all day but stayed focused on my schedule. I get protein in first. I think that it’s easier for me in this full liquid stage than it may be with food. I am lucky that I still love my premier protein shakes. I have to split into 3 “meals” per 11oz shake but 2 shakes gives me 60 protein. Then I add “unflavored” (it’s not🤨) protein to water with a couple squirts of sugar free flavoring and that gives me another 30 protein. I start early and “eat” at the top of each odd hour (7,9,11,1,3,5) for 20 min. Wait. Then on the even hours sip protein water, water with benifiber/merilax, regular water. I take vitamins all day long. I don’t think it’s a good idea to “waste” pouch space on popsicles , coffee, tea, etc. right now unless you can get some serious protein in there. I love my 3, 25 oz water bottles cause they help me keep track. When I drink a shake I take out 11oz for each. Use for helping get down vitamins. I bought melting vitamins but they are very sweet tasting so have to sip water with them to get the taste out of my mouth😛 The worst are the calcium because they are 4 huge pills to dissolve . -
Well, yesterday was so perfect. Today I feel so full. I am getting close to finishing 2 premier protein shakes. need to finish 8oz of flavored water protein and maybe another 16 oz of water to meet goal.

For those awaiting surgery, my thoughts /tips. make an email group to update friends and family and let your spouse or friend update everyone. don’t have visitors the first day...except main caregiver. First day was really tough, but each day is better let others help your spouse after surgery to give them a break❤️ get off narcotics asap and just do Tylenol (I was off first day) if nauseas, ask for more / different med. peppermint doTerra for nausea pains in chest, shoulders , back is from gas...walk, use breathing spirometer, I use doTerra essential oils ...pastTense , deep blue, have your liquids ready for when you go home and a schedule having my water bottles ready each day helps measure my liquids. I put all my vitamins out and take on even half hours throughout day. I did fiber and merilax pre and post surgery Feeling pretty good at 5 Days post op😊 just a little sleepy. Getting my protein, liquids, vitamins in👍🏼 Good luck all awaiting surgery🙏☘️

Great! I also had my surgery on the 13th. first day was rough. Biggest problem was nausea not pain. Once I got nausea under control I was able to come home Thursday and I’m working on my diet schedule . Doing good, just sleepy.

Recommendations for Gastric Bypass Surgery
Francess replied to Anks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My sister’s friend went to Mexico and is doing well. I think you miss out on the pre /post surgery prep and support. just had my surgery and even with insurance it has cost a lot out of pocket🤨 upside, I lost almost 40 pounds pre surgery, the surgery went well. I’m experiencing little pain, and the dr. told me I’m done with diabetes meds! Feel like I was prepared mentally and physically for surgery. best wishes on your journey 😊 -
My surgery was March 13th. Everything went well. First day was really tough because of nausea. After one round of awful tasting narcotic I requested tylenol which they were able to do through IV. Much better. 2nd day was better but still nausea was biggest problem. They gave me an extra prescription and with the 2 nausea meds really felt better. Got in my walks and was given the option to stay another night , but happy I went home as scheduled Thursday. It’s Friday and my first full day at home. So far so good! I’m “eating” (full liquid protein diet) and drinking and taking my vitamins plus added Miralax and benifiber to water. Crazy as it seems a highlight of my day so far was my first post surgery BM 😁...just don’t want constpation as one of my issues😝 so far on track to getting protein and liquids. This will be my new job for the next month to make my eating /drinking/vitamin schedule my new normal👍🏼😊

Surgery day! On my way to hospital. Check in 8am, surgery 10am...all prayers appreciated! Best wishes for all pre and post surgery pals❤️🙏 Will check back post surgery😊

4 weeks post up, now pain?
Francess replied to Acts238girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my pre surgery meeting they emphasized that at 4 weeks or so the largest incision begins to absorb and can cause a muscle spasm. A heating pad will help relieve pain. Call your Dr. , I think there is something they can prescribe for you also. This info was on my Postiy home instructions. -
Great news! Congrats👍🏼😊

Good for you! I find it funny that a “bad” day for me now is really not that bad. Matter of fact it’s better than what I would have eaten before this journey began. keep up the good work😊

Else’s, I think you are having normal cravings but... My surgeon does not require pre surgery liquid diet but nutritionist made it clear that he has refused surgery to those who regain. On the way out of our pre surgery meeting he said I should try to lose 5 more pounds because it helps surgery. I took this to mean, don’t go crazy! Plus I look at every pound down now gives me a head start. I have been told that the more you lose pre surgery is positively correlated with post surgery loss. I have stuck to the diet that I have been on because this is the new me. At my pre surgery physical I lost 3 more pounds so I am happy. That was a week ago and I have starting a new 20 minute workout each morning so feeling good about that. I have thought about jelly beans and those Easter Reese’s but haven’t fallen to temptation yet. Thinking Lent is a good time to prepare for surgery. Prayer and support of friends helps. I am overwhelmed with the positive responses of those I’ve told❤️😊 Elsee, just get back on track today. You can do it 👍🏼😊

I love the premier protein shakes and hope that my taste doesn’t change after surgery ( which I keep hearing can happen). My favorite is chocolate with a couple scoops of PBFit...love this stuff. Feels like a PB chocolate dessert! Surgery March 13th...can’t believe it!
-
Saying a prayer for you and all March/April surgeries🙏 6 Days and counting for me...surgery March 13th.

Mine is the 13th, but no 2 liquid just clear liquids day before. I am keeping with low sugar, low fat, high protein diet I’ve been doing. I’ve been working on eating post surgery diet so I’m use to it. I often do 2 shakes and dinner or close to it. But I know it’s different when you have to do it. My surgeon thinks it helps people stay on post surgery restrictions better. I think people who have not lost pre surgery weight he does put on liquids.
