    Mental Starvation?

So much of what you feel in the beginning is head hunger. We are so used to eating that it's kind of like a mourning period. I went through counseling which really helped me learn food is fuel, not entertainment. That being said, I ate many sugar free popsicles. I also changed up my liquids. I used soups and added plain protein powder. I pureed my favorite soups to the liquid stage. This way I still had the flavors I enjoyed. I also added chipotle tabasco to chicken broth. It wasn't easy in the beginning, but now I am no longer obsessed by food and enjoying life. Good luck to you. Don't be afraid to try new things.

    FIBER

Before I could eat fiber rich foods, I add benefiber to my water. It is clear and has no taste. I still keep a togo packet in my lunch box for days where my system seems sluggish.
  3. My dad did not support my surgery either. Now he is the biggest proponent of Weight loss surgery. He said he "got his daughter back". He was afraid to lose me. What we realize after the fact is that he lost me years ago because I couldn't/wouldn't do some things for fear of not being able to keep up. Now they are all working to keep up with me. This surgery gave me my life back!

    Protein Powders

I would recommend ordering sample packs in the beginning. After surgery, your tastes change and the consistency of some drinks are harder to get down. I started with premiere protein. I loved that I can but it at Costco, Target and other stores, but right after surgery it was too sweet. I ordered sample packs from several companies and got many samples from my nutritionist and surgeon. I finally settled on Unjury (you can buy this at pharmacies or on-line). I use almond milk to up the protein. You will need to find what works for you. I highly recommend you also get an unflavored protein. You can add it to drinks, soups and oatmeals. Best of luck to your in your journey.
  5. I'm kind of in the same boat. I am down 90 lbs and have stalled. I think I needed to let my body rest and get used to this weight for a little while. I maintained this weight for over a month and now it seems to be going down again. I am remembering to drink water and continuing to walk during this maintenance time. Next week I am going to up my workouts again. This helped with my last stall.
  6. Try different temperatures of water or different brands of bottled water.

    Stalled at 6 weeks

Your body goes through adjustment stages. We all had stalls at some time. On month 3, I lost ZERO. Then month 4 came and I felt like my weight was falling off. Just keep following your nutritionists and surgeons advice and your weight will go down. Hang in there. I remind myself often. I did not gain it overnight, I'm not going to lose it overnight.
  8. I switched and did not have to start over. It actually helped me be more ready. The cost savings was more than worth it. I started in October and had my surgery in April. My surgeon submitted paperwork from both my previous doctor and my new doctor to show the 6 months of dieting. Good luck to you.

    Hair loss getting worse

My hair did the same at 4 months. It seems to be coming back now at 6 months.

    Breakfast help

I am tired of eggs myself, but while on the go, I do enjoy the Starbucks Sous vide egg bites. The bacon and gruyere is my favorite. One is plenty. I ask for them not heated up and save one for the next day.
  11. I had my surgery in April and I think I have finally figured this feeling out. Whenever I eat too quickly and don't shew enough I tend to get this feeling and get foamy. I found if I slow down and set my fork down between bites I do better. We need to retain ourselves to slow down. Your meal should take at least 20 - 30 minutes to eat, instead of the 5 minutes my family tends to take. Think of your stomach as a pipe. If you pour too much of anything into a pipe, it gets backed up. If you pour contents ion slowly or a little at a time, it goes down more easily. Chew, chew, chew and rest between your next bite.

    Advice!!!

My best advice is to not compare yourself to others. This is your journey. Food advice...don't overbuy. Your tastebuds change after surgery. I loved premiere shakes before surgery, after surgery they were difficult to digest. I now use Unjury protein powder. You will find what works best for you. Many brands provide samples. I lived on samples the first few weeks. Best of luck to you. Remember we are all here for you.
  13. I just told my boss I needed surgery and that I would be out 1-2 weeks. That's all they needed to know.
  14. Keep drinking your water and take walks. Even if they are back and forth to the restroom. I was swollen after surgery and my joints hurt. I used liquid Tylenol if it was really bad and iced my knees. The walking and drinking fluids helped the most. Just start moving and keep increasing each day. Your joints will feel much better as you lose weight, mine do.

    Exercise tips

I e started swimming. I actually have a coach and am learning the correct form. It is using every muscle in my body and has finally gotten me out of a long plateau. I highly suggest it. iWork out hard without the pain and it’s helping my arthritis.

    Has anyone tried Orange theory?

They will let you try it free for a week. It’s important to find something you enjoy. It’s easier to go if you enjoy the people

    Vitamins and Supplements

I take my calcium and iron 2 hours apart. You should not take calcium and iron supplements together, because mixing the minerals may reduce the absorption of iron from your intestines.

    Zumba!

@Malcy - I do notice I am hungrier on days I exercise more. I eat/drink my 1-3 oz of protein and then drink a big water a half hour later. My trainer said that most of the times when I think I'm hungry, my body is actually thirsty.

    Feeling Defeated

Best thing I did was meeting with a psychologist. I was able to figure out my triggers and change my attitude and focus to know I am worth it.

    Am I just impatient

It will get better. Remember food is fuel, not entertainment. I found I did better with soups that had flavor and added unflavored protein. I would add mild green chilis to my scrambled eggs ( I diced them up really tiny). I also added a drop of chipotle tabasco (it is mild but smoky in flavor).. Try different things. I realized my nausea was actually caused by textures and once I was able to chew foods, I did much better. Just remember to chew food into mush before you swallow.

any sleevers in their late 50's

He should have said what my surgeon said, "Great job! Remember to move as much as possible during your first 6 months, this is the time where it will be easiest to lose weight." These were the words I needed to keep motivated. I joined an exercise program and am walking on every break I have. Be proud of yourself, but keep moving and pushing yourself. It is more difficult with all of our hormones to lose weight as we age. Best of luck on your continuing journey.

    Zumba!

First make sure you are drinking enough water. If you are sweating, you may need more water. Talk to your dietician or surgeon. My recommends an ounce of protein after I work out and extra water. I drink half my weight in ounces (200 lbs would be 100 oz).
