2 week post surgery exam
Shoelace replied to BeeCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fantastic! Swimming after 2 weeks..love it! Keep us posted on the next part of your journey -
I agree with all of the above and I love the expression "this too will pass" ! Doesn't take the pain away right now, but it will go and new and exciting times are just around the corner! It would be nice to have someone there to help but if they can't be, then you're better off focusing on you and your children and that's probably going to be all you'll be able to handle for a while until you find the "new" you! Then look out! Scary but exciting times ahead! Best of luck!

I'm not too worried about talking about having to have surgery, once the time is close enough, to bring some of the workplace into the picture. I have to have surgery..doesn't really matter what the surgery is, even to HR as far as I'm concerned..just that I have to have it as per my doctors and here are the dates I need to be away. What I am thinking about is the rapid weight loss and how to explain that. That is an interesting one... Someone I did tell about this suggested I say that I had to go on a medically supervised diet and exercise program due to blood test results. Could work...I have lost 30 lbs already and that was due to some results in blood work (pre-diabetes, adema and blood flow in the heart) scared me big time so I cut all the garbage out! Then a couple of months later I get the call for the orientation for this program..it kind of all fell together at the same time..but..tests results can scare us straight..so to speak!

I second that!

What a great idea doing the recipe blog! Please let us know if you do. I'm a lousy cook, still a few months out for surgery but any ideas and suggestions would be so appreciated! And the pictures are great! -
I agree on this note with the cpap machine..if you need to use one (i have for 6 years) you need to take it in with you in case you need it while in the hospital. Thus the test. I didn't have to do that test as I already have the machine. Good luck! (by the way..I actually love my machine!)

I've thought about this as well. I really like the mention above about one of the surgical offices keeping a closet of donated clothes..what and excellent idea! I think I will mention this at my next appointment. I'm lucky in that I still have drawers full of clothes that I kept form the journey up..hoping I will be able to use them on the journey down! Might be a bit out of style, but who cares at this point. My current wardrobe consists of 4 shirts and 2 pairs of pants..sad really..but I won't grieve leaving them behind! Haven't had my surgery yet but it looks like either December or January..so it's coming.

Wow, I just checked my ideal weight on the calculator you have here and it says between 106 and 143..I had thought 150 was doing great! I might just have to re-assess! Thanks for the link. -

Starting the journey

Hi Anita, I'm a bit behind you in this process, have my first visit with the dietition and social worker in a couple of weeks. Bone density and ultrasound next week. I agree this is scary, though for me it's more the surgery and recovery from the surgery that I am concerned with. I'm also 58 so worried about that factor as well. But..with all the hoops we have to go through to even get to the surgery I'm thinking I'll be in better shape by the time the day of surgery comes than I have been in a very long time so that is a plus. I just keep thinking that the health benefits of the outcome outweigh my fears. I hope I'm right there. -

Hi Kakatlady! Yes, most Canadians seem to be in Ontario in general! The Rockies are in BC but on the eastern side so not close as I'm on the coast, but closer than Alberta and Ontario. Thanks for connecting and I'll keep an eye out for the others. -

Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
Shoelace replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello to everyone here. I'll be 58 this year..where did the time go! Just coming up to 2 years waiting for my first consult so maybe a bit early to join, but impressed with all the write ups, thought I'd start off anyway. Obviously worried about surgery and complications but it seems that most people do really well after these. I hope I will be able to say the same. I have lost and gained and lost and gained so many times..and I didn't even realize this was something I should seriously look at until my gynecologist suggested it. Now have oesteo in both knees..go figure. Looking forward to following the progress of new patients and the success of those who are now post-op.
