Not sure what you weigh, but I first got into spin when I was 360lbs. It’s great cardio and great for toning the booty!

Bariatric and Alcoholism....
insta_adventurer replied to disco stu's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I do think transference of addictions is a legitimate thing. Addiction issues usually aren’t limited to just one thing. You see people quit smoking and develop gambling or food addictions. It happens all the time. It is super common for post ops to develop alcohol dependencies. As someone who previously went through some dependency issues, I’m incredibly aware and sensitive to being at an increased risk. I think the worst thing people can do is think it can’t happen to them. If you don’t think you’re susceptible to addiction transference, then you’re less likely to recognize the signs. -

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
insta_adventurer replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m still here! RNY on 7/17. Down 66 since surgery, 103lbs since starting the program. Gotta get back on my workout bring, but the holidays are super busy. Just got back from KY on Saturday and next week I’m off to CA for a few days. I’ve got this killer dress for a party in CA that arrives tomorrow, fingers crossed that it fits! -
Get the bigger one! We have the smaller one and unfortunately found out it can’t fit a whole chicken. Also- I love ours! We use it a few times a week.

Pre Op quitting smoking cannabis
insta_adventurer replied to oohhlalajessica's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine as long as they don’t test you for marijuana in your pre-op testing. Two weeks is not long enough for it to be out of your system enough to pass a drug test if you are a daily smoker. -
FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS

Wow! You look 10 years younger! -
I was a very former smoker when I started my program and was an active e-cig user. By very former, I mean I quit January 1st and had my 1st appoint at the end of January. My husband badgered me into quitting and then once I quit I realized the surgery was an option I could pursue. Like you, I started at 14.. so quitting just seemed like it was impossible. I was 33 when I managed to quit. I’ll be a year smoke-free this New Years. Not one single cigarette in that time. They say if you make it a year without a cigarette, your chances of staying quit increase drastically. So I’m just pushing myself to that. My program tested for nicotine through a urine test and this was meant to be done at my pre-surgery testing, but they forgot so I had to pop into the office to do it. Since I was an active e cig user, I did a bit of testing of my own (you can order urine test strips on amazon for about 5 bucks). After about 8 days, I tested negative. I really recommend you call and ask when they test. I have heard of some programs that won’t even accept you in if you’re a current smoker. So it’s best to know ahead of time. Honesty is the best policy, as perhaps they can prescribe something to help you kick the habit!

How will you handle Thanksgiving?
insta_adventurer replied to libbyleeb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a bit of the banana pudding dessert yesterday, but didn’t touch it today. I just recalled how cloyingly sweet it was and that helped stop any temptation I may have had! Any time I wanted to snack today, I grabbed a cuppa coffee to keep it at bay. I really enjoy a hot cup with a spot of nutmilk in it, so it still feels like an indulgence. Gotta scale back my caffeine intake when I get back to my real life on Monday. 😂 -
How will you handle Thanksgiving?
insta_adventurer replied to libbyleeb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I ate Turkey first.. then followed it up with small amounts of the following: sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole, green beans, cornbread stuffing, and 1/3 of a crescent roll. By small amounts— I mean like two teaspoons of the sides. I had a little of everything, so I didn’t feel “cheated” or like I was missing out, I just kept my portions of non-plan stuff small. Today I am back on plan. Protein and carb-light. -
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's weight loss challenge
insta_adventurer replied to Healthy_life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Check in? Weight lost: none. Hello my friend the stall! Also- my routine is junked up so I haven’t been weighing myself regularly. Exercise? Does trudging through airports, malls, and walking through my alma mater (On, on U of K!) count? -
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's weight loss challenge
insta_adventurer replied to Healthy_life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. I did poorly on the day of our flight, but have tried to stick to my plan the last three days. Today is Thanksgiving.. and I am going to try to stick to plan, but may allow myself a bite of one or two things. Luckily we’re doing a small Thanksgiving dinner here, so there’s not a ton of temptation. Fun fact? I don’t really like roasted turkey. It’s usually dry and flavorless in my opinion. Going to try and overcome this, as it’s my best protein option today. -
I’ve started adding benefiber to one of my daily drinks. It’s helped make me semi-regular.

To Chew or Not to Chew (vitamins)
insta_adventurer replied to lulu06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got sick of the chewable vitamin taste, too. I did them for the first 3.5 months and then asked my surgeon if there was a capsule option. She said she was fine with me switching and recommended the Bariatric Fusion one a day capsules. I take two every morning. Perhaps that may be an option for you? -
Cross post: Will biotin make my facial hair grow?
insta_adventurer replied to Oct517's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’ve been taking Biotin for nearly a year and haven’t noticed an increase (or decrease 🙄🙄🙄) of facial hair. Facial hair on women is a hormonal thing. Not sure what hormone causes it, but I think it may be increased angrogens that cause it? So yeah- biotin won’t increase of decrease the amount of hair you have.. it’ll just make it shiny and healthy looking. -
It would have still sucked. Your cheats didn’t make it worse, I promise. Surgery is different for everyone, pain is different for everyone. I really followed my two week diet pretty closely and guess what? I was still *miserable* that first 24 hours post op. But yet my surgery buddy in the next bed seemed to be doing fine! 4 months out, I’m glad I did it. The pain is short lived. Just keep thinking of that.. it’s a few days of discomfort and moderate pain and in exchange you hopefully will get a longer and healthier life. Hope you feel better soon! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

What do you eat in the airport?
insta_adventurer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned today that traveling is tough with a restricted diet. Starbucks messed up my latte, so I had to toss it. Couldn’t find an acceptable protein shake on all of Detroit Airport. We had a nearly 4 hour layover and walked and walked looking for something! I ended up settling for some spicy chicken thing that was not on my diet and peanuts on the plane. So my question... what do y’all eat when you’re traveling by plane? -
What do you eat in the airport?
insta_adventurer replied to insta_adventurer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not see any yogurt or eggs?! Do airports have grocery stores? All we saw were little news stands that had coke product and monster energy drinks. I did see some Core protein drinks, but I’m pretty sure those have a ton of sugar? But they were the only protein drinks I saw. -

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's weight loss challenge
insta_adventurer replied to Healthy_life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I want to play! 1. Start weight: 238lbs 2. Weight lost: Since surgery, 63lbs. Since starting program, 101lbs. Since highest weight, 141lbs. 3: Losing 4: exercise goal: 3 days a week 5: Will update later. 6: Meeting my exercise goals has been tough. Diet has been mostly okay. I just try to stay carb light and hit my protein goals. -
Riding on an airplane soon and not taking an extender. Wish me luck (and closure!). 😂😂😂

I made it to nearly 4 months post op before I broke down and had my first coffee. I’m not supposed to have caffeine, but it’s so ritualistic for me and so comforting. I was *fine* until I started drinking the approved decaf coffee and once I started doing that it was a slippery slope until I was back on full-test. I mix it with chocolate nutmilk or protein drinks. It gives me so much LIFE.

One of my more dramatic moments was trying to coerce whatever nurse had walked into my room into taking my IV out. They had it in the middle of my inner forearm and it hurt and was so inconvenient! “What can we do to make you more comfortable?” “You could remove this..😏”

The losers bench is when you are post surgery and losing the weight! It’s a good term in our world. 🙂
