Feel like I should have lost more weight by now
insta_adventurer replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it’s important to have realistic expectations... at your starting weight, 30 lbs in 3 weeks is really rather remarkable. I don’t think that’s losing too slowly at all. -
Partner’s weight
insta_adventurer replied to KCgirl061's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is average with a little extra I’d say. He has been having to fend for himself and has been eating a lot of pasta and tacos since I had surgery. He doesn’t gain weight too quickly and he seems to be able to shed it more quickly than me (well, at least more quickly than I did pre-surgery). I’m hoping as I progress through the stages, he can adopt some of the healthier habits that I’ll have so we can both be healthier. :) -
Tips for getting your fluid in?
insta_adventurer replied to insta_adventurer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it’s caffeinated coffee, idk I wouldn’t count that, because it dehydrates you. Thanks for the tips! I have been trying to prioritize drinking above all else to make up for it... if I don’t get enough protein via food- I just make it up in shakes. I know we’re not supposed to use straws, but has anyone found that they make it easier to get fluids in? I feel like little sips are easier with a straw vs no straw. -
Depression Meds post op
insta_adventurer replied to priscillagreene's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You cannot crush cymbalta. It’s extended release. I’ve heard of people opening them and using the little beads to ween themselves off of it. Are you unable to swallow it? They had me swallow tablets very soon after surgery. I understand your frustration and wasn’t given clear answers about how to handle. I will say that switching to non-xr Wellbutrin and going from cymbalta to celexa has had no negative impacts on me. However- psych meds really depend on the person and what works for one may not work for another. -
Cardiologist visit not so good
insta_adventurer replied to shantra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think tests by cardiologists vary depending on the doctor and patient. I am an existing cardiological patient so I just had to have my cardiologist say okay (I have a minor valve issue) and have a normal EKG... as I’ve already had numerous cardiological tests. However, at the very least you can expect an EKG. The stress test may be reserved for those with certain risk factors. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
insta_adventurer replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh man! 😂😂 I don’t see how people can handle stuff like that so soon. I feel like I’ve been pretty lucky on tolerating things and the mere thought of a milkshake at this point makes my pouch turn. Also.. 11 days!!!!! Awesome!!! -
I had a NSV today! I went for a walk at work and it didn’t suck! I’m only a few weeks post-op but it’s crazy the positive effects I’m already noticing.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
insta_adventurer replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight loss has slowed to about 1lb a day. I think my initial rapid loss was mostly water so I’m not too concerned with the slow down. -

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

Welp. Ate too fast at dinner and just vomited it all back up. So that’s a lesson learned. I feel so much better now! -
Partner’s weight
insta_adventurer replied to KCgirl061's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Super sad to hear this. As someone who has lost both a parent and a sibling, I always hate to see people take their loved ones for granted or abuse them. Family should lift each other up- not put each other down. -
Depression Meds post op
insta_adventurer replied to priscillagreene's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was on cymbalta and Wellbutrin xl... and they switched me to celexa and non-xl version of Wellbutrin. My surgeon advised that the only issue was extended release meds. My primary said everything had to be tablet and crushable. My psychiatric NP said we’d have to wait and see if I needed to change. It was frustrating- all those different answers. I ended up following my surgeon’s recommendation. So far- no issues other than I get full from my morning medications. Had really strong anxiety around surgery tome, but I think that was due to switching from cymbalta to celexa. -
Pain Meds for Post OP
insta_adventurer replied to GeminiSky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hydrocodone elixir that I was prescribed. I took it for 3 or 4 days. Be mindful of taking the pain medication... if your pain is intolerable or making you uncomfortable you should take it, but the longer you take it- the more constipated it can make you. -
Does anyone have a good suggestion for a nutrition tracking app? Are there any geared towards us? I always used my fitness pal, but just got calorie shamed by them for only consuming 300 calories today. I’d like something more tailored to our needs!

I am right there with you! I wanna start spin class again and work on my planking. Maybe even get a portable TRX set up for our apartment. They told me to hold my horses, I was only allowed to walk for a few more weeks...

Menstrual Cycle
insta_adventurer replied to Juairy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My previous period ended on the 16th. I had surgery on the 17th and got another period that started on the 27th. However, I’ve also only had an iud for 2 months so most of this weirdness is from that I’d bet. -
Before and After Pics
insta_adventurer replied to Roserie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m still very early-post op... but I can notice a difference already! Photos are from 2 months prior to starting process, 3 months into process, and 2 weeks after RNY surgery. -
NEED COFFEE. ASAP. SOS
insta_adventurer replied to E G's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weened myself off caffeine using iced tea.. it has a lot less caffeine than coffee. When I finally got to post op and couldn’t have any caffeine- I was okay. No awful headache... and I was a highly caffeinated individual going into this. 😂 -

@luzbella good luck today! -
unprotected sex a week before surgery??
insta_adventurer replied to saygrace's topic in The Gals' Room
My comment wasn’t really directed at you, but at the people who seemed miffed they were asked to take a pregnancy test. I am glad things worked out for you! I think we’ll always find someone to stress over before surgery. For me, it was whether my EKG would be normal (I was convinced it wouldn’t) and then I was worried about not passing the nicotine test (I quit vaping in plenty of time)... so I always found something to panic over pre-op. 😂 -
July 16th Bypass People
insta_adventurer replied to jkklstark's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
July 17th here. No real issues. First few days was very uncomfortable, but much much better now. Just have to stay on myself to keep on top of my fluids. Able to get protein in. -
unprotected sex a week before surgery??
insta_adventurer replied to saygrace's topic in The Gals' Room
Okay- so I had to take the test, too- even though I have an IUD and literally had my period the day of surgery. But- it could be very catastrophic for you and the potential fetus if you were pregnant during surgery... so better safe than sorry. It’s peeing in a cup- which is a painless (for most) thing to do. It’s not like they’re doing a spinal tap to see if you’re pregnant. -

Awww. Milk of magnesia is what finally did it for me... and the other night I used smooth move tea and that REALLY worked. -
Weightloss and Curves
insta_adventurer replied to Boujee_Susie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Giving me hope! Can’t wait to be cleared to work out so I can get back to my squats and keep my bum in place. 😂😂 I’ve got plenty of curves.. might lose some. So be it. I just want to be a healthy weight and not worry about future medical junk as much! -
