Is the sleeve right for me? BMI 27.4
newself replied to Mgr98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You mentioned chocolate- while this surgery limits the amount of food you can eat at a sitting, "head hunger," cravings etc still exist. I'm thinking that I could easily drink milkshakes, eat pudding, and have candy throughout the day if that is what I wanted. -

Out With the Old--In With the New!

But in the past I would have long abandoned my diet once the stall lasted more than a few days, and for sure once I blew my diet. So... there is hope for us yet!! -
Out With the Old--In With the New!
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a similar moment and ate about 2/3 pulled pork (I did not measure) and cole slaw (not diet) not just once but TWICE on Saturday. I was so tired of limited energy, my family was eating, I thought screw it, I'm not losing anyway. Then I had a spoon full of regular ice cream on the same day. It was scary that I could eat all of that! I did not feel great but I did not have to lay down etc. Got back on plan Sunday and I'm steering clear of that mother f'ing scale... Then I tried to measure yesterday but thought where exactly is my waist and what part of my thighs did I measure??? But luckily I have no choice but to stay on course! -
HELP. Have I messed up and ruined my surgery?
newself replied to sleeveduk96's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We all mess up! This weekend I ate waaayyyyy too much at not just one meal but 2 meals; I felt horrible then pure panic set in because I was positive I had ruined my stomach. But yesterday I got back on my online food tracker, put in what I ate Saturday, and I've been careful since which is something very new for me. In the past I would have said, screw it, I've already messed up so now I'll just keep eating poorly. AND there is no way I would have tracked what I ate that was too much or bad! So, you realize what you are doing (you obviously want to stop because you confessed here, knowing you could get a tongue lashing), and you will learn and you will take control of your food choices! -
Sleeved Monday, 3/12/18 & struggling!

Stay on top of the constipation- it will cause problems! It rained for a week straight after my procedure! I ended up waling in a circle around the inside of my house. -
Onederland FINALLY! Progress Pics
newself replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats! You look amazing! -
I only told my husband, and a few close friends. I have always been the heaviest in the family and I knew this would bring up all kinds of feelings. Plus naturally I do not like tons of attention so I did not want people looking commenting that I've lost too much, not enough, too fast, too slow etc. and finally I did not want to hear how easy this is... It's not a big deal because I have been on one diet after another since I was in my early teens. Like most folks on this thread some of the diets have been absolutely crazy! Everyone is used to it... The difference is I will be successful!

Out With the Old--In With the New!
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ok Fluffy- I totally get you about the concern over your cast iron stomach- I woke up with that concern for myself too! Nothing seems to bother me! Most of the time I'm in a good place and I think that I'm so lucky, but occasionally I have mornings like this morning and concern, worry, fear seep in because what if this surgery did not work for me like others?!?! Thanks for always being honest- it makes others feel so much better that we are not alone! And that I'm not the only loony one out here!!! -
I have a lower BMI. My reasons for this surgery are very personal and difficult for me... my mom died of multiple strokes brought on by weight issues. I watched her have stroke after stroke for a year which took her mind and body slowly. After years of losing the same 20 lbs then gaining more I had this surgery out of pure fear for my health. My PCP was in full support. I have been disgusted in myself for not being able to "just lose" the 50-75 lbs. It shouldn't be that hard! But it is... I do not have a problem with the original post; this is a place to safely voice our feelings, fears and triumphs. I get the frustration and I would feel the same way. It was not mean nor did you call out anyone specifically. I hope you feel safe to continue to voice your frustrations. Keep up the good & hard work- I will be cheering you on!!

Congrats!!! Yes, I had gas in my arms and shoulders- it will not last forever! It took me 4 days post op to get rid of it and I have not had one problem since!

What's wrong with a straw?
newself replied to logicwand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I accidently used a straw (so used to using one pre surgery that it was habit). I feel fine and I'm going to keep using one because like you said, it's so much easier to get all of the water in with a straw. My dr forbid straws as well.... I guess I'm an outlaw! -
Out With the Old--In With the New!
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can feel when I need to stop eating. It's hard to describe, it's a feeling in my chest of.... fullness? or maybe a tight feeling might be the best way to describe the feeling. I'm trying hard to figure out when to stop before the feeling happens, but this is all so new. And yes, I agree! In the morning, I have liquid protein (premier drink) and an hour later a small amount of soft protein (1/2 egg?) but then I cannot even think about eating or drinking anything other than water until around 1ish. But in the later afternoon I can have a snack (1/4 c egg salad- greek yogurt no mayo) then I am able to have a dinner of 3 oz soft protein. I do weigh food but I'm trying to weigh and measure so I can figure out the appropriate amount when scenarios like the chili incident occurs I can figure it out? I'm a rule follower too and very cautious of messing things up but at this point I'm not too worried about stretching anything out- just trying to meet all requirements and eat enough to keep my metabolism from shutting down which my dr warned me about. This learning curve is exhausting. -
Out With the Old--In With the New!
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
ME TOO!!!!!!!!! AMEN SISTER! ME TOO!!!!!! Here is my experience with volume (we had different procedures but close to same surgery date); some days I can eat close to 1/2 cup, other days I can barely eat a 6 oz light yogurt. It's weird and a little scary to me as well, but it is what it is, and I'm soooo thankful that I have felt great and have not had any of the uncomfortable side effects that others have suffered. Also, the very few extra calories give me the added energy to move well! I'm noticing my clothes are fitting properly vs being tight, so I figure I'm doing something right. Staying away from the scale bc of the 3 week stall. On a happy note, I had to go to a dinner and literally the only item on the menu that was even a little bit appropriate was chili... I ate about 1/2 of the cup and I was very full but I did not feel cheated or left out. Pre surgery would have been a much different meal for me with feelings of shame and guilt afterward. So... even though it's only been 3 weeks I'm beyond happy with my choice to have this procedure, and I'm keeping a log of these happy victories for when I feel frustrated and upset. -

Scared thinking of canceling surgery
newself replied to Sarahrosesb's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Any change is hard; good or bad, change is hard for everyone. You wanting this surgery is probably bringing up all kinds of feeling with you family members that have nothing to do with you. Please see a counselor and take a family member or family members to see a counselor with you. While it's your body and your life blah blah blah, it is so much easier with a support system or at least one or two supportive family members! -
February 2018 Success Stories
newself replied to kakatlady612's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said it's a pain relief patch that they attach during surgery and when it starts dissolving you feel a pop. He said if happens at night you will never know. -
I hope I'm as successful as you have been!!!!

My BMI was 34.2, with no health issues, so I had no choice but private pay. I thought about running out of the preop and actually tried to tell them to stop as they were wheeling me into the OR but the meds had already taken effect. So... I was only doing this for health issues that would crop up if I kept on my gaining cycle and for vanity reasons. I was petrified that I was trading "good health" for health issues related to surgery, but as my PCP told me, I was on a path to poor health. Diets did not work or I'd quit them after losing only to regain. I do not have any regrets. I do not like the shakes or liquid protein choices but I don't have a choice so I suck it up and do what I have to do. I feel great. Today I had my 2 week check up and I'm down 9 lbs. I can tell a small difference in my clothes. My dr told me that I will not have big fast loss because of my starting BMI but 2 lbs per week is what I can expect. I would love a faster loss but I figure it will be June, July etc regardless of the weight loss surgery; so I'll just me thankful for this opportunity. Good Luck to you!.

Does your stomach feel normal?
newself replied to logicwand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm by no means an expert but it sounds a lot like the gas pain I struggled with the first few days after surgery. I forced myself to walk as often as possible and took gas x. -
Does your stomach feel normal?
newself replied to logicwand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made my husband hide the scale so I would not be tempted to weigh before Monday which is my 2 week check up, however.... a pair of pants that I could barely button now fit fine! This has just been so much easier than I imagined (so far), I'm walking 4 miles per day etc. One thing, I just hate all of the protein stuff (drinks, shakes etc) so I've copied some of fluffy chicks ideas and am making my own "soups" with yogurt, protein powder etc. and last night I slept on my stomach for the first time! How are you doing? -

newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes! Next Monday will be 2 weeks... I was so loopy in the hospital that I don't remember much but I do remember the surgeon telling me not to cheat. Honestly, for the first time ever I'm not tempted to cheat; I want to get all I can get out of these first few days and weeks plus I'm really scared about messing something up! And yes, it will be great to build up an arsenal of meal ideas from this site! -

I am so happy for you!!!! I have my post op Monday and I'm hoping beyond hope that I will be "promoted" to soft foods! I really enjoy your food ideas so please keep them up! I've never been a fast food person and I enjoy cooking but it's hard to think outside of the box. -
day 4 and I felt good. one week out and I felt wonderful- if I did not have incisions I'd never know I had procedure. for the last few days I've felt sluggish one day then full of energy the next. Congrats! Sounds like you are doing great!
