Let's Play Another Round of "How Much Am I Eating Now?"
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It's difficult to say what I eat in a typical day because no 2 days are typical for me, Yesterday: B: Premier shake with coffee s: 3/4 single serving lite and fit greek yogert L; chicken, pinto beans, sautéed onions/peppers, with salsa (about 1/3 c total) S: cheese slice (microwaved) w/ PB powder mix D: chicken and green beans (about 1/4 c chicken and 1/3 c green beans) s: 4 oz cottage cheese w/ 2 T sf apple sauce. I was struggling to meet protein goals yesterday but today I'm right on track -
I tried to buy ahead and ended up wasting money, because after the surgery things I liked pre surgery (sugar free popsicles, sugar free PowerAde) I hated. Now my taste has returned to normal and I can tolerate. My advice is to buy small amounts of a variety of things and hope that a few work out for you. Good luck- the first week post op is not fun (but not horrible) but it gets much better!

Out With the Old--In With the New!
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's funny bc I gained 1.8 lbs that I attribute to salt as well. ugh! -
So far no one has figured it out or suspected. I've had several family dinners and a work luncheon. My sister commented on my small plate and I replied it's my diet, and she nodded and no one said anything else. whew! I'm really happy this is what I chose.

Feeling regretful, help
newself replied to cher248's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only six weeks out but I'm learning some things very quickly- thought I was doing really well and would be one of the lucky ones with no problems until i ate 2 well chewed shrimp and felt worse that I've ever felt. Shrimp used to be a favorite... oh well it really is a learning curve! -
February bypass buddies?
newself replied to RunningLibrarian's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well I tried 2 shrimp for the first time last night, and omg I felt horrible and they came right back up. I'm not sure I will ever eat shrimp again. I have mixed feelings, on the one hand I can no longer brag about how easy this has been and I've had no issues; on the other hand it's reassuring to know that my stomach will tell me when something is too much, too early etc. I would do a ticker on the bottom but I can't figure out how to do it! -
I'll tell you my experience. I could not lose weight without regaining or giving up. I paid $10k out of pocket, but I think the surgery is worth eyery penny. I'm about 6 weeks out. I've been lucky and can tolerate just about anything (I have not eaten carbs, had soda or alcohol). I can barely eat 1/2 c at a sitting HOWEVER an hour after eating I could eat again if I chose. I look at my kid's plates and would love to have just a taste. I could probably drink milkshakes without a problem. All of this is to say that the surgery is just the first step and a tool- some days I fight mind hunger, craving etc all day long. THAT for me is the hard part. Only you know if you will be able to control those parts of this journey. I wish you only the best and please know that my 2 cents is worth exactly that, 2 cents.

Yes- the PB powder has been and still is a huge winner for me! Mix with yogurt add a tiny bit of powdered cocoa and sweetener of your choice is really good! -
Out With the Old--In With the New!
newself replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is awesome news! I KNOW you will reach your goal and stay there! I haven't really ever seen anyone so dedicated! It's really interesting how our bodies work... I had been in a stall and the panic set in but then yesterday I tried on jeans that were skin tight and a button up shirt that was tight in the stomach and arms and they fit just fine. I wouldn't have thought to try them on (I work from home and have been in leggings/yoga pants) but I had a social thing and the weather has changed so I went for it, Something to keep in mind if you have another stall. I saw people I have not seen since Dec and I noticed a few looking at me like something was different but they could not put their finger on what it was. -
You look fantastic! Keep up the good work!

ugh- me too! Tired of no energy!

Scared about being big and having surgery
newself replied to Sunshineprincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on taking control of your life and health! I doubt your surgeon would do a procedure that was not safe. I wanted to run and seriously thought about it while I was in preop- in fact the nurse told me not to run while he was in with another patient! I have a (private- for my eyes only), list of reasons to lose weight, embarrassing moments , etc along with pictures; I also have a list of goals that I hope to achieve with the help of this procedure, clothes I want to wear, activities I want to participate in etc... Like i said, these are private so there is no one to criticize, etc. It has been very helpful for me. We will all be here to support you and cheer you on! Please continue to come here for encouragement and a place to vent because it is very helpful! -

You are just so awesome! Thanks for not thinking I'm crazy as I feel sometimes! Today is a better day. It is just so crazy all of the thought and attention I put into every bite! It is true abut dense proteins,,, I tried some grilled chicken last night and I was very full very quickly and stayed full for a long time. Nothing bad or uncomfortable just full. -

Out With the Old--In With the New!

I think the stress is from years of dieting and not really losing weight or gaining back... And I hope this new RD is a good fit because I'm driving my husband crazy! -

Ok, yes this helps. The RD at my doctors office was not helpful for me- I've found out since that I'm not the only one who is unhappy with her... I have the name of a new RD who has her own practice for Bariatric patients and I'm scheduling an appointment next week with her. Hopefully that will help me. I'm still losing steadily- down 20 lbs so I'm not too worried. It's funny that I've cut me calories by 80% 75% and now I'm stressing over eating 100 calories or 1 oz or 1/4 cup too much! I have noticed that if I do not eat enough my energy drops dramatically and my intestines back up. It really is about finding the sweet spot. -

I'm trying to figure out how many times I should eat per day. Some meals I can't even eat 1/4 cup or an ounce of food other meals I can eat more or I'm hungry an hour later. It's always different which is frustrating! But I like the soup advice! -

yep- I have been able to swallow pills from about day 4 on... -
I had mine in Dallas- total for everything plus a year of post op $10k. Insurance did not cover bc my BMI was 34 and I had no co-morbidity. No problems- everything went smoothly.
