After waking up from surgery, and enduring the recovery room, I was wheeled to a non-bariatric floor because it was full. After getting situated. I decided to take it upon myself to go for a walk. Well, we all know where the gas they pump into you goes, I stopped let one rip for what seemed like 30 seconds. I then heard a voice behind me say "did someone start a lawnmower?". I was mortified and hobbled back to my room.

I am one year post VSG & achieved my goal and then some. It has been a remarkable transformation. I have to rant about how some people, especially family members react to weight loss. I cannot tell you how many times, most recently, someone has asked me "what's wrong with you?", why are you so skinny, or are you sick? Or "I think you should gain some weight".
Where were these people when I was close to 300 lbs, unhealthy, pre-diabetic, depressed and spiraling into an early death? They kept their opinions to themselves. No ones, said, you don't need to drink that extra soda, or eat that cheeseburger, so why do people act like weight loss is because I am sick? Can't I just want to be healthy? Rant over.

Most people don’t know I have had WLS. When I tell them I exercise 5-6 times a week, they say “don’t hurt yourself”, that’s fanatical. I literally went from not being able to walk up a flight of stairs to running close to 5 miles. It seems that most people are not used to change. Maybe it’s because they don’t have the power to change so when they see somebody do things to better themselves they react in an awkward manner.

I have noticed that those who remained silent during my heavier years are the most vocal about "what my weight should be". I wish I can tell them to go to hell in such a way that they would look forward to the trip. Still working on that lol.

Hey everyone. I was sleeved on 03/19/18. Tomorrow is my one week anniversary. I hit my goal weight early on, and I have been teetering between 172-174 for the past month. My all time lowest was 166. I got a lot of negative feedback from people saying that I was too skinny & gaunt. I would like to get down to 170, that is where I was happy. I have not been eating the best lately, not horrible but I can be doing better. Exercise wise, I exercise 5-6 times a week between weight training and running. Overall, I am glad I had this done. I would like to figure out how to take off four or five pounds but it seems that my appetite increased as time went on as well as my ability to eat a little bit more. Here is a before & after collage I made. The after pics I am 170ish. The before pics I am 286.

Because every time you turn on your TV some movie star or other famous person is announcing " I have cancer of the_____but I am going to fight it all the way!" Seldom do they announce " I'm going to sit in my recliner, put my feet up, watch reruns and Wait for the Death Angel to show up!" So the average person sees you suddenly looking thinner, and it's "OMG are you dying? "Well technically we all are from the day we are born but an intentional weight loss is not a bad- type thing at all. I am happy I am losing weight, its just the freaky fact I have started looking like dead relatives and I hardly recognize myself in the mirror any more. Even Tomkitten my son remarked on it "Gee Mama I never realized you looked like Aunt Grace!" Probably because she never was obese like me! Hey a Happy Journaling Victory, I have broken the 40 BMI barrier so well on my way to being merely obese instead of the Dreaded Morbid Obesity notation. What a lovely thing, not to have that cited as a reason for every doctor visit. Sometimes I'd like to hand him. a printout of the encounter " Physician still smart -aleck, never weighed more than 150 pounds in lifetime!" bet I could find a billing code to fit that! Once put on Tomkittens" Erythema of Nose" that was because he had a slight sunburn, would you have put in a billing code for a red nose? Well he sure did, wonder what he would say about Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer? Probably say it was seasonal!
