Gastric sleeve Self pay...Any recommendation?
sleeve21418 replied to Naturalz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used Dr. Leslie miles in Birmingham, AL. I was very impressed with the whole process. I only had to go to 2 appointments pre-op and they get self pay patients on the books pretty quickly. I think I had surgery less than 2 months post my first appointment. Regardless of where you have it done, you won’t regret it! Best decision of my life. I’m down 46 pounds since mid. February and feel wonderful! -
Appears like you ate more*

I eat out all of the time. It has actually gotten pretty easy to figure out what to order that appears like you are more. Hahaha. (I’m a secret sleever except my hubby). I have found things like baked oyster apps or steamed shrimp are good because they are straight protein and “look big” on the plate even though it’s not a lot of food. When I was in purée stave I just ordered a side of grits or soup or something else soft and just kind of picked at it. A lot of the dining out experience for me is just not having to cook and going out for something social. You will realize that the food is really a minor part of it and you can enjoy yourself as you would before by just focusing on your dining partners or friends company instead of obsessing over the food.

I’m a secret sleever and once I got past the puréed stage I have found it really easy to keep my secret when dining with friends. Nobody has suspected a thing. I have been ordering an app and just picking at it and saying I had a big lunch or breakfast. I live on the coast and I’ve found ordering a half dozen grilled oysters as my meal to be a lifesaver. The plate looks big and full but in reality there’s only 6 big bites of soft food. Nobody has suspected a thing and I’ve dining out with friends several times

I had surgery on Wednesday and was back at work Monday. I was a little tired and still sore but not too bad.

I had surgery on Wednesday and was back at work on Monday. I honestly could have worked on Saturday if I needed to. My husband and I ran errands that day and I felt fine.

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Miles at Alabama weight loss in trussville. Had my sleeve done in February. Their office is at St. Vincent’s east and the surgery is done there at the hospital as well. My procedure was self pay and outpatient but they keep you at the hospital most of the day and then once you can walk around they send you to a hotel close by that they recommend and a nurse comes to check on you that night. His whole staff has been great!

You got this!! It will All be over before you know if. Get ready for your new life! The first few weeks are so exciting..I was so excited to wake up each morning to see how much weight I lost overnight..haha. Good luck!! -
Dr. Miles in trussville, Alabama charges a little under $12,000 out of pocket. (Right outside of a Birmingham) Only have to go to two appointments prior for self pay (initial consult and pre-op/nutrition class).

I’m a secret sleever! Haha. My husband, father, and aunt are the only people who know. I haven’t even told my sister. Haha. I just don’t think it’s anyone’s business. I’m only a little over a month out from surgery and I’ve had several meals out with friends and they never suspected anything. It also helped that my surgery fell with Lent...I told everyone I gave up carbs and booze for Lent (which is pretty true but also happens to be physically mandatory...haha!) good luck!

Getting Sleeve on Wednesday

Yes totally normal! I was terrified! I’m almost a month out from my surgery and I’m down 27 pounds. Keep your eye on the prize! [emoji3] I’m not going to lie- the first couple of days for me were ROUGH but it was mainly gas pain and nausea. Once I got past that it was smooth sailing. I’ve eaten out with friends several times since I’ve been on soft foods (none of them suspected anything. I haven’t told anyone I was sleeved but my immediate family) and I’m living my normal life and routine now...except I eat a lot less food. And the best part.....the money we now save weekly on my groceries we are moving to hiring a cleaning service [emoji322][emoji322] just stay focused and look forward to what you will gain with the surgery. Take a deep breath. Say a prayer and relax! [emoji3] -

Totally feel you. I never had the guts to ask for one and a few flights with my husband I just pretended to belt myself which was so stupid and dangerous but at the time I couldn’t bring myself to ask for an extender. I gave in and actually bought an extender online that I use when we fly. Can’t wait to go on another trip to see if I fit now! Haha. Looking forward to that day and throwing away my extender! -
I agree the risks are scary but when you really look at the numbers getting a sleeve is a safer surgery than a hip replacement. I’m about 3 weeks out and I too had all of the fears that you are having. I was scared of the actual surgery, I was scared of the recovery, I was scared of how my life would change. And looking back I am SO glad that I did it! I’m down 25 pounds (20 since 2/14) and I already can see a difference in appearance and how I feel. I was really scared about how much my social life would change since I eat out with friends often and am very active socially but even though I’m on the soft diet phase I have eaten out 3 times the past 3 days with people who didn’t know I had the surgery and I didn’t skip a beat. I didn’t even have to cheat. I just ordered sides as my entree and told them I was cutting back. I’m not saying. That the first few days after surgery aren’t rough and I’m not saying that it’s super easy but I am saying is that if I can do it, anyone can do it! Haha. Good luck!
