  1. Hi,
Im still in the pre-surgery stage currently, and trying to get a better handle on alternatives to turning to food for things like:
    -stress eating
    -emotional eating
-any other food related eating connected to head hunger rather than “real” hunger
I know that unless i can find ways to come up with healthier coping tools and healthier distraction options when needed; instead of using food as my answer .... i’m going to sabotage my weight loss surgery or have a high risk for developing or increasing other not so healthy or positive coping skills (cross addictions).
the dietician i saw expressed concern about my emotional eating; and my surgeon said that working on the head stuff helps (and i know there’s a good thread on this)
in talking to one psychologist about this his response was that nothing really works the same way as food ... that i can try things like mindfulness, journaling and exercise but it’s unlikely they will really work for me in the same way after using food as an answer for well over 30 years. that was discouraging but he has also seen me try and not succeed with alternatives in the past and was trying to be realistic.
    how have others addressed this?
if you are or were an emotional eater what has helped you post surgery to deal with the emotions now? or is it still a struggle ?
    thanks

Wow sorry to hear your Dr was so discouraging. Maybe you need s different Dr. One that is more supportive. Regarding managing head hunger, unfortunately I don't have any advice because I still struggle with it 10 mos post-sleeve. It's still so very hard. Right now the sleeve is still helping me from overeating but I still don't always make healthy choices. And after this honeymoon period that's certainly going to have a greater negative impact. I'm not giving up though. Best of luck to you.

  2. Down 98 lbs at 167 now with a beer saggy wrinkly butt. Generally I wear spanks-ish shorts-ish underwear for a smoother look under clothes but when not needed I wear my pre surgery Lane Bryant high cut brief underwear which are too big now. I want to get something new in a regular size. Any recommendations?

  3. My favorite NSV was when my husband and I went to the new Little Ceaser's Arena for Pink's concert. I had never been but many people told me how small the seats were which became a huge anxiety fixation. Everyone knows that feeling...well my husband sat down first and had to squeeze in because in the first row of mezzanine the drink holders were on the arms of the seats and made it even more of a tight squeeze. He told me, "I don't know, honey, if I had to squeeze in, it might be tougher for you."
I SLIDE IN EASILY AND HAD SPARE ROOM IN MY SEAT!!!!! I could even cross my legs in my seat. Yes, it was an amazing feeling to let all of the anxiety and stress go and enjoy Pink's amazing performance. My husband even apologized - he knew I weighed less then him now but that really demonstrated it.
    That's awesome!!

  4. Hello Everyone!

I am post-op RNY, surgery date July 2014, starting weight 302, surgery date weight 290.

Today, I’m 190, and I’m four days post-op from an Abdominoplasty. Surgeon was able to remove 15 ponds of skin. I’m hopeful to be 175-180 when I’m healed and all my swelling goes down.

Here are before and after (the “after” is from 2 weeks ago at the beach, before my plastic surgery).

I like to come and read about everyone’s successes. Your stories are always so familiar and comforting to me. Very few people understand the struggles we’ve faced, the nastiness, the hateful attitudes, the condescension (“hey, you should feel lucky we even MAKE clothes in your size!”), and even though I don’t post much, I’ve so enjoyed seeing the happy transformations.

[emoji173]️hugs to everyone on this journey!

    Carmen
