Has anyone asked what Bougie size was used for their sleeve ?
logicwand replied to cableworth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon says he uses size 40 for ALL his patients. He said it was safer and if need be they can make adjustments. It remains to be seen whether I can maintain my weight loss, but I’m hopeful I will. -
That’s so comforting to hear. Thanks

Do people treat you different now that you're skinny?
logicwand replied to Marissa37's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you, Sue.... you’re right. I shouldn’t give up on love. Your story makes me hopeful as I’ll be 42 soon. The idea of my confidence changing is so exciting because it’s something I’ve lacked my entire life. Now I’m excited. Lol. Thank you!!! [emoji2] -
EGD should be done before surgery. At least mine was. A hiatal hernia was found during the EGD and the self pay price dropped from $14,000 to $5,200 because they give a discount. I’m assuming they can bill insurance for the hernia repair which will be done during the VSG surgery. Not exactly sure, but for self payers, it’s definitely something to look into and to ask potential doctors about a discount if you have a hernia too.

Just out of curiosity, did they ever tell you what bougie size the doctor used for your sleeve? I know it hardly makes a difference in weight loss outcome but just wanted to ask.

Every BMI chart I look at shows 164 at 5’8” to be overweight. Healthy range is apparently between 130 and 160. If I were 5’8” I’d probably shoot for 155/160. I’m 5’7” and my doc says anywhere between 140 and 150 lbs would be ideal for me. But I know everyone is different.

Any one with a chronic leak?
logicwand replied to losinghope15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my gosh I am SO sorry you are going through this. You are so strong!!! I don’t have any answers but this obviously has happened to others. Maybe consider looking outside Washington for specialists. I’m in Houston where our medical center is one of the best in the world. My best wishes to you to get this resolved once and for all. -
Hair Loss and Hair Extensions
logicwand replied to BJames42613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently bought these clip in hair extensions and holy moly what a difference! And they are gorgeous and natural looking. I couldn’t have spent $8.99 any better. Here’s a link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E8P5UZ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -

LaLaDee you crack me up...and you remind me of myself. I’m hoping to date eventually but it will be hard to jump in the game after so long AND rejection is tough for me. I resigned to dying alone and am okay with it. I have my Boston Terriers who constantly make me laugh, move my ass, and give me tons of affection. Yeah, I’m good with my pups too. [emoji5] -

Osteoarthritis and the Sleeve
logicwand replied to logicwand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I've done the steroid shots as well. In the beginning, they really worked well. Six months to a year later, the second round did nothing. It was so disappointing. I have a desk job too and I asked our office manager if I could get a sit/stand desk. We'll see. LOL I can't believe your sciatica has all but disappeared. That is amazing. I suffer from meralgia paresthetica which causes numbness and burning on my right thigh. Sleeping at night is torture because that right thigh can wake me up from its horrible burning sensation and my arms or hands will "fall asleep" and become numb. Have to toss and turn so neither side of my hip gets too much pressure. Ugh. Your story is so promising though b/c I think the weight loss will probably alleviate these conditions too. *Fingers crossed* Thank you for sharing!! -

Time off work and telling co-workers?
logicwand replied to Livetothrive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t plan to tell anyone at work. It’s a small office and everyone is thin. And although I’m judging them by assuming they’d judge me, Lol, I’d rather go with my gut thinking they’d pass judgement. So, I’m basically hoping to subtly create my story for them. In passing conversation I drop comments like, “I think cutting out carbs is making me tired”, (true)or “I feel like my legs got run over by a truck after I walked 3 miles yesterday” (also true). I’ve got Atkins supplements on my desk and am eating a lot of protein. My surgery is in 3 weeks. I’m taking off 3 days for “vacation” - Wed (surgery), Thurs, and Friday. And back to work Monday...I pray. I also hope that the weight comes off slowly so as to make my narrative more plausible. Haha. We shall see. -
Of course you’re nervous! It’s your big day!! Everything is gonna be great. Can’t wait to hear from you tomorrow. Peace be with you!
