I'm newly banded and having quite reached the "real food" stage yet. But by mid-April I will. I always end up attending many BBQ's over the summer. What will I be able to eat? The norm that is served at BBQ's are burgers, hotdogs, steak, potato salad, tossed salad. Will I still be able to eat these types of foods??

Dina how are you feeling? I was banded 9 days ago and I feel your pain! I hope you are feeling better!! -
When I get onto the mushie stage, what foods are considered mushie???
-
I'm sort of pickey when it comes to Chinese food. I would love to have some once I can eat "real food". I normally eat the appetizers...chicken fingers, steak terriyaki, fried rice, boneless pork etc. Will I still be able to eat all of that? I'm going to find eating very small portions and chew, chew, chew very difficult!! I'm so use to inhailing my food!!!!

Meredith, Unlike most people, I had a hard time post-op. I had surgery on March 19th and here it is 9 days later and I'm just starting to feel better. I took all last week off and then I decided to take another week. I thought for sure I would have bounced right back but I didn't. Good luck

What about having the tuna or chicken salad on wheat crackers? Can most people tolerate wheat crackers, wheat thins, Ritz or something similar?
-
I know we are suppose to chew, chew, chew. But is it small bites too or regular bites with the chew, chew, chew? How big are the pieces of food suppose to be?
-
Oh Dawn, I hear ya!! This stage is the pits. What stage are you on the mushie stage or the liquid stage? I'm on modified liquids which I guess can include watered down potatos, very similar to cream of wheat consistency. After sticking with pudding, jello, protein drinks etc. the potato was scrumptious! I can't wait until the mushies!!!

I'm on my 8th day of post-op. Which included protein drinks, jello, applesauce, watered down oatmeal, cottage cheese etc. I'm a very picky eater and I decided to make some watered down instant potato to a cream of wheat consistency...very thin!!! Do you think that would cause a problem with the band?

Would baked beans be considered mushies??? I love baked beans!!!
-
Oh, I'm going to find it very difficult to eat tuna or chicken salad alone and not on any type of bread!!! I like them both so I guess I will have to do it. After getting on to "real food" I know most people can't tolerate bread. What about eating some type of pita bread or the flat roll up bread? I also saw that someone ate stuffing, I didn't think this would be tolerable.

What type of chinese food can you tolerate? I love the appetizers, will I be able to eat them after I can start on "real food"?
-
Bitteroldhag, Would you mind posting your recipe for the thin crust pizza you make? I would love to try it!

I'm just starting my 2nd post-op week. I feel exhausted and no energy. I walk around the house a couple of times and I'm tired and need to sit. Is this normal? When does the energy come back?
-
I'm so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I hope you get better soon.

I've been to the other board too many, many times. I seem to like this one better because when I post I usually get a response ASAP! Everyone is so willing to help everyone else out-it's a joy and a relief! My thanks to everyone who has helped me out on this site! I appreciate all of you!!!

Does that Phenegran make you stop throwing up?? I think I need to get some of that in my house!
-
That scares me too! Especially since I'm only 8 days post-op. Why are you taking anti-nausua meds? Is it because you thought you were coming down with a bug?

I found some B12 dots that seem to be very similar on www.a1nutritionproducts.com . They charge 9.95 for 250 tablets or $5 for 100 tab.

I'm interested in buying an unflavored protein powder. I just about gag on every protein shake. Can anyone recommend a good powder? Does the unflavored powder have any type of taste or smell when it's mixed with something whatsoever???? I need something that doesn't alter the taste.

Virginia, I will try those whey liquid Proteins. I looked into it and I'm going to buy some. I'll get some B12 as well. Thanks for the tips! By the way, what flavor liquid Protein do you buy?

How long does it normally take for food to pass through the pouch into the larger part of the stomach?

It's hard to follow the doctors orders when you are hungry. I'm on my 8th day of post-op and I'm going crazy. I'm suppose to be on a modified liquid diet for 3 weeks. Which includes protein shakes, jello, yogurt, cottage cheese, watered down oatmeal etc. I found I needed something this morning or I was going to go crazy. I decided to make some instant potato and I watered it down a bit until it was like a cream of wheat consistency added S&P and butter and I can't believe how good it tasted! I felt the same way after I ate it...what did I do, did I just blow it? But I felt fine afterwards and I'm still full even though I only had about a 1/3 of a cup.

I had that pain in my neck as well. It started in my left shoulder blade, went up to my shoulder and into my neck. Felt like a pinched nerve! It is from the gas pushing on a nerve. I found laying down or laying down on my left side makes the pain go away. -
Has anyone ever tried the Whey Liquid Protein? It's a 3 oz. vial of protein and has 42 grams of protein in each one. Wondering If I should get some of those. That way I won't have to drink the nasty shakes.
