This modified liquid diet is really getting to me. 2 weeks down and 10 days to go. I'm such a picky eater so that doesn't help. I've been living off Isopure protein drinks, popsicles, applesauce and runny mashed potato. I need some real food and fast! I know you all have been through this. What can I do? I think after the 3 week post-op diet I graduate to mushies but I believe that is another 3 weeks! I don't know if I can survive that stage either!!

I haven't tried the Carnation instant brkfst in the blue box. I'll have to pick me up some! I have tried the individual packets and I don't like those. I don't like the Slim Fast either. I can't wait to see the sample menu. I'm a picky eater so hopefully I'll like something on the list! I have a family Birthday party to go to on May 26th. I'll be 2 months and 1 week post-op by then. We are going to an Italian restaurant in Rockland. I hope I'm able to eat something! I know that many people can't tolerate Pasta. Maybe I can eat a meatball or something or chicken parm?? I'm getting hungry just typing any food items!! I would love to go to one of the get togethers sometime and meet everyone. That would be fun! It's so nice being able to talk to other people who are close by. Well...not so close by for me since I'm in Plymouth! It takes me 2 hours just to drive to Beth Israel!

Ohhh, I love wheat thins!! I have not received the booklet with the sample menus. I'm sure I'll get that next week at my appointment with Kelly. I have a treadmill and many exercise tapes that are collecting dust! They need a good cleaning! Do you drink any other types of protein drinks other than the carnation instant breakfast? I can't stomach many of them!

That's great that you have a friend you can compare notes with and go through the process! Losing 75 lbs. is GREAT! She must be thrilled! I can't wait until I can eat the tuna on crackers..yum! What type of crackers do you eat? I'm so nervous about having one of the PB's. Have you experienced that yet? As far as exercise, I haven't really started yet. I really should start this week with at least walking. I hate exercising but I know it's necessary!! How about yourself? Have you gone to any of the get togethers? I know there was one recently in Braintree.

That's great that you lost 24 lbs...congrats! I thought by now you would already be on regular food not mushies. How long do you have to be on mushies for, is it 3 or 4 weeks? Are you schedule for a fill yet? I called Kelly and told her I needed something more than soup and asked if I could eat mashed potato and she said no problem. So I decided to have a baked potato and I thinned it out a bit. Hopefully that was okay. Since my pre-op diet, I've lost about 20 lbs. I gained a couple back once I started eating mashed potato though. Do you live up in the Boston area? I live in Plymouth.

Hi Kelsy, I had Dr.Jones as my doctor. I'm about one month behind you. How are you doing? I hate this post-op crap, I know it's part of the course but I want to get back to eating normal food.

I was banded on March 19th at Beth Israel in Boston. I just found out that my family is throwing a 50th birthday party at a restaurant for another family member on May 26th. Do you think I will be able to eat "real food" by then? How long after surgery does the first fill happen?
-
Can you have a PB before a fill or do they only occur after the first fill?
-
Still on modified liquids (will this ever end?) and I was going to have tomato soup. If I crush some ritz crackers in the soup and let them get a little soggy would it be okay for the band?
-
Has anyone else had trouble removing the sticky residue from the skin caused by the steri-strips? How can I remove it??

I'm still having shoulder/neck pain, had surgery on Monday the 19th. If I'm laying down in bed it doesn't hurt a bit. If I'm sitting in a chair, it's VERY painful like I pinched a nerve. Once it starts to hurt I can't get rid of the pain. Does this sound like it could be from the surgery or something entirely different???
-
I was banded on the 19th and I had liquid roxicet as well. Stuff works great! My pains were worse day 4-7. Most of it was the gas pains, I had the pains in my shoulder and neck.
-
I've eaten poached eggs before but never a soft boiled egg. I'm on my 11th day of post-op and have had runny mashed potato but I thought maybe I could try a soft boiled egg. Will that go down easy or is it a chew, chew, chew item??
-
I can agree with you Cheri about them being vague. I felt the same way. The same with after surgery. They don't prepare you for what type of symptoms or pain you will have when you get home. If I had a list of all the possible symptoms before coming home, I would have been more prepared and not as scared. But doing your homework through this website will help you. Keep us posted!

Shoulder pain from surgery or not???
Berry replied to Berry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CLC, The shoulder pain was the worst. The doctors certainly don't warn you ahead of time and then they don't send you home with any type of possible side effects. If I got a paper describing all the possible side effects I wouldn't have been such a worry wart!!! -
HI Sweet, I'm 11 days post-op now and I'm doing great. Like other people have said, the gas pains are the worst. Takes about a week for them to go away, at least with me but everyone is different. I'm still on a modified liquid diet but I can also have other things other than liquid like cottage cheese & yogurt, both of which I don't like so that didn't help! But I am allowed to have runny mashed potatoes which are delicious!! I have one more week of this and then on to mushies. I also got my surgery done at Beth Israel and had a good experience. The nutritionist is wonderful, my doctor was nice and the care I got at the hospital was wonderful as well. I know surgery is a tough thing but if it's going to improve your life in the longrun, I would suggest doing it. They suggest going on a two week pre-op diet with 2-3 Protein shakes per day and one sensible meal. I had surgery on March 19th, I had to be there at 6:00 a.m. and my surgery was at 7:30 a.m. I was in the recovery room from 10-12 and rolled into my room around 12:00 with yummy pain meds. I was very scared too and I cried before surgery but I made it through!! If I can do this, you can do it too! Lot's of support from your family and this website and you can do it!

I belong to a Congregational church and we have Communion once per month. Since I'm still in the post-op stage how can I eat the bread? Actually, even when I'm ready to eat "real food", can I have communion? The bread is broken up into pieces and then we dip it into grape juice. Thanks!
-
My family and I were invited to a persons house tomorrow night. I'm on my 10th day of post-op. I don't really know these people all that well, know them from church and they are having a few other people over as well. So...what do I do? Do I go and not eat?? OR, decline the invitation. Such a dilemma!!!!
-
Teach, My church is also a Congregational UCC Church. We usually have communion the first Sunday of each month but during Lent we have had it every Sunday. This will be the first Sunday since being banded I will be back at church. We have the bread and the cup separately as well. We take a small piece of bread and dip it into the cup of juice. I suppose I could do it if I just took a small piece of bread and just took a nibble from it.

Okay, I'm posting AGAIN!! I know that most people can't tolerate breads. What about these other bread type items; French Toast Pancakes Waffles Muffins Pastries English Muffins French fries Pita bread Flat bread Pie crust Stuffing Thanks!
-
Ya, I think I'll pass. I don't think I'm ready yet. Thanks for your help!
-
Has anyone ever used that stuff called Maderma for scars???
-
Yes, the bread is small pieces, not wafers. Good idea, I will do a trial run before church!

I feel as though I might be starving once I can eat "real food". If I probably won't be able to touch any of these products I'm going starve. I'm a very picky eater. I'm not big on vegetables. I don't know what I'm going to do.
