Pre op and post op! My weight on the day of surgery was 258.
-
I chose bypass because: #1: I’m 28. I have to make this lifestyle change last 40+ years (God willing). #2: I didn’t want to have to convert down the road #3: The statistics for the weight staying off long term were a little better with bypass I’m happy with my decision at almost 8 months post op.

I ran 4 miles non stop today! Haven’t done that in years!

It’ll be 7 months on 5/8. I’ve been eating some salads now that I can tolerate the lettuce, and I’ve been trying to do less dairy for my protein because I know that wasn’t helping things at all. Thanks for the chart! I’ve been curious about trying lentils for a couple of weeks now. I always see such tasty looking recipes on Pinterest for them. I think I’ll pick some up today while I’m grocery shopping.

How is everyone incorporating fiber into their diet? I have IBS and used to have dumping syndrome BEFORE surgery. Now nothing wakes these bowels up except MOM and senna tea, and I have to get this under control. My team advised me to add fiber but I’m struggling to eat anything after I eat my 2-3 oz of protein. I thought about going back to my genepro protein powder to get half of my protein in for the day and then focusing on the fibrous veggies and beans for my meals instead of protein.

Where are my 5ft tall peeps at?
Jolexis replied to The Dora Milaje's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
5’1” here and just about 7 months out. Highest weight 297, current weight in the 180’s. My 1st major goal weight is 165. Final goal weight is 140’s. My surgeon never discussed goals with me. I chose them for myself. -
I went from a tight size 24 jeans to size 12 so far. I’m on week 6 of couch25k!

How soon after surgery did you wait to workout?
Jolexis replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I waited about 3 months to really get into exercising. I was originally lifting weights along with elliptical but I strained a muscle in the lower abdomen right near one of my incisions so that put a nix on the weight lifting for now. I’ve been running 4 days a week now that it’s nice out. I wish I would have started exercising sooner but Im making up for lost time! -
Fueling for a half marathon post bariatric surgery
Jolexis replied to skyguy's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Entering week 5 of couch25k and it’s been going okay. I used to be in the military and ran all the time. After getting out, I refused to do any type of fitness and the pounds packed on. It’s been such a humbling process getting the weight off and getting used to running again. Anyone have any tips of getting their breathing under control while running? I try to focus on the in through the nose/ out through the mouth but I just feel like I’m suffocating. -
I’ve always wondered this too. My team has never set a goal for me or given me an amount they expect me to lose.

Food Before and After Photos
Jolexis replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It was a little oily. Not spicy. The smoke really came through on the chicken. It was nice, but not something I would probably order again from that place. 😅 I usually don’t splurge like that but not going to lie, I’ve had diet fatigue the past few days. I’ve managed to stay in my 700-800 calories but I needed to branch out from my “regular” foods. -
I want to be able to post photos of myself and my family without feeling secretly judged by my army buddies (I was active duty for 4 years) for how much weight I put on after getting out. I wanted to ride rollercoasters again. I hate the way plus size clothing looks on me. It was more a matter of finding things that covered all the lumps and bumps than finding things that I thought were beautiful and enjoyable to wear. It was getting too painful to work. I’m an ER nurse and log anywhere from 5-6 miles a day during a 12 hour shift. I HURT after every shift. I’m only 28. This was horrifying to me. I hated feeling judged by everyone everywhere I went. It’s interesting how differently people look/ treat you when you’re closer to a “normal” size. Just a few of my many reasons 💁🏽♀️

Food Before and After Photos

Didn’t feel like cooking so I ordered a smoked chicken quesadilla with carmelized onions and peppers from a local pub. Some of the salsa is missing too. I don’t touch sour cream. It’s always grossed me out. This would last another 2 meals but I’ll probably just let hubby and the kids snack on it later. -
I hope the meds work out for you! Oddly enough, I didn’t have reflux and acid issues until I got my RNY. It’s controlled with a PPI that I’ve almost weened off of completely, but if I go too many hours without eating, the pain comes rearing it’s ugly head. 🤷🏽♀️

It’s been theorized that PPIs cause issues with calcium absorption over the long term. I was only supposed to be on one for 90 days. It’s been 6 months and while I’m almost 100% off of it, I have days where I wake up in pain from all of the acid. It really just depends on your program I guess.

Proton pump inhibitor (Prilosec)

Weaning off of my ppi. It’s been a hard, painful, delicate process and one that I was not expecting during this journey. I never had to take one before surgery.

Week after surgery and I'm struggling
Jolexis replied to Bonines's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I remember this phase so well. I couldn’t stomach most protein drinks after surgery and still can’t drink premier protein without having instant bloating and cramps. I use a scoop of genepro unflavored powder in my crystal light/ diet tea/ coffee. Hang in there! I promise it gets better. It took me at least a month to start getting anywhere near my fluid and protein goals. Your body needs time to heal. -
I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)
Jolexis replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
6 months out 69 lbs down from surgery 108 lbs down from highest weight Size 24 to size 14 Hoping to get an additional 40lbs down by my 1 year anniversary. I run 4 days a week and work 12 hr shifts the other 3 days walking 5-6 miles. I eat around 700-800 calories a day. Eternally grateful for this tool! -
I feel like I’ve had the worst constupation in the world since surgery. I’ve gone almost 2 weeks without any bm quite a few times. I really had to get serious about a bowel regimen. I use Miralax every day religiously. I personally do not skip a dose if my stool is runny because then it goes right back to rock hard. There seems to be no in between for me. I also drink 60ml of MOM if it’s been more than a day without a bm. Otherwise, I get impacted (seriously...) quickly and to the point where enemas and senna laxatives do not work. I also had to evaluate the type of Calcium I was taking. I swear my BariMelts Calcium is adding to the constipation because I removed them from my diet for a few days and the constipation lessened. I still take them, I just am much more vigilant in the Miralax and MOM. Senna tea (smooth move) is still my go to if things don’t progress like they should.

2 weeks. I’m a nurse in a busy ER (I average 12000-15000 steps a day at work) and aside from being a little more tired than usual, I felt fine. That being said, I did NOT do any major lifting of patients for an additional week or two after that.

I'm four months out and back to eating my same level of spice but in drastically smaller amounts. I eat 3oz normally at a meal but if it's super spicy, I'm done after 1.5 to 2 oz. I couldn't handle it very well for the first 2 months though. To give an idea of how much spice I eat, think authentic jerk chicken and scotch bonnet peppers. That being said, I religiously have to take my PPI. As I look to be weaned off of it, the spice may have to be cut down (or out) too. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I think I'm getting an ulcer. I finished up my PPI regimen a few weeks ago, and I had a feeling this would happen. [emoji29] I'm trying to control it with diet right now but I dont know if the pain will go away without getting back on the PPI or taking something like carafate. I was really trying to limit my ppi use. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

3 month surgiversary yesterday (10/8) and I'm down 40lbs since surgery day, 70lbs overall! I've been really frustrated with being in my second stall for the past 2 weeks, but I have to keep telling myself to just stick to the program. I'll admit I haven't eaten the best, but I have my head back in the game and I remind myself that this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. I started working out again, so itll be interesting to see what my body needs in terms of consumption as it adjusts. Most of my protein comes in the form of gene pro unflavored protein powder in diet tea (57 calories/ 30 grams protein) Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
