Food Before and After Photos
sillykitty replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Gave a mini review on the favorite products thread. It was fine? It didn't taste like much of anything. If I would have been in my WL phase, I would have been excited to have a protein item masquerading as a carb. In maintenance I'd probably opt for a real tortilla. -

I melted a bit of butter in a nonstick pan and then placed the wrap in, and then cheese on one half. Once the wrap was warm and pliable I folded it in half, heated both side so they were a bit crisp and the cheese was melty. I could have used cooking spray and more interesting/flavorful ingredients. But I'm not in my own kitchen, so limited resources. -

So the red pepper hummus was fine. It wasn't particularly flavorful, but not objectionable either. In my WL stage it would have been useful to get a protein boost. But in maintenance just eating normally I'd probably opt for a regular tortilla. -

I'm weird about wasabi. I only like it with simple sushi like nigiri. In special rolls like this there is already a lot going on (the sauce on the side was eel sauce/chili oil combo) and I don't like the wasabi to compete/overpower the other flavors. -

Someone new. These will be completely different procedures that my first surgeon, who specializes in WL patients, doesn't perform.

To echo what @janc75 says, there is a huge variance between various surgeon's pricing. My most expensive quote was 3x's my least expensive. Although you don't want to make your decision based on price, there isn't necessarily a correlation between price and quality. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" is often untrue for plastics. I speak from personal experience. I chose the surgeon that had the lowest quote, and am extremely happy with my results. They are exactly what I had expected. I believe my highest priced quote would have given me great results as well. But my mid price quotes would have had inferior results IMO. I'm about to go in for a second round of surgery next month. I have gone down the rabbit hole with plastic surgery research. I can say I've seen amazing results from low priced surgeons and terrible results from high priced surgeons, and of course vice versa. So it just bore out to me exactly what @janc75 said, narrow on the results and experience you want, and then add price into the equation.

Agree with the refried beans recommendations. I also had no issue handling spicy foods. One of my first soft meals was refried beans with cheese & hot sauce

I’m happy that 2.5 years out I still have a significant amount of restriction. But sad that take out sushi just isn’t the same. 😭 -

Metabolism post WLS

Experienced plenty of stalls. They are just part of the process. IMO there is nothing that causes or breaks stalls as long as you are following your plan. I just focused on the bigger picture. Instead of thinking, I have lost only 1 lb this week, I'd think I've lost 10 lbs this month for example, or 60 lbs since surgery. -

Metabolism post WLS
sillykitty replied to loridee11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Only anecdotal evidence ... but in my WL phase my diet had a huge amount of variety. I was usually quite low cal at home. But I traveled for work and ate relatively normally, but in very small portions. My cals could be anywhere between 300 to 1200 cals depending on the day. Once as I neared maintenance my capacity expanded, I ate more freely, and my calories crept up. Now I maintain at around 2000 cals/day. I think it is possible, that my frequent caloric fluctuation during my WL phase may have protected my metabolism. Of course no way to prove or disprove this theory, and I am even skeptical myself. But the Biggest Loser study is one thing that really scared me, so that's one reason why I wasn't crazy super strict everyday. (Not that I had the ability nor willpower to be) https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/6-years-after-the-biggest-loser-metabolism-is-slower-and-weight-is-back-up/#:~:text=(Reuters Health) - Six years, their stint on the show. -

Skin Irritation Around Waist Line
sillykitty replied to erics300's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Some insurance policies will pay for skin removal, if the issues have been documented over time. I'd recomend you start documenting thm with your PCP. The either get a referal, or find a plastic surgeon on your own. Options are usually insurance pays in full for skin removal (assuming standard co pay and out of pocket rules apply), or you can pay additional cost directly to the surgeon for non covered parts of the skin removal procedure. -
Sleevers who are years out what’s your average day of eating look like?
sillykitty replied to Kikikiki's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a sleeve and 2.5 year post op. I have pretty significant restriction still and can eat about a cup or so per meal. (Lots of pics of the volume I can eat on the Food Before and After thread). I still log everything I eat, and maintain at around 2000 cals. I get 2K cals in by eating calorie dense food, and eating frequently. -
Drinking before/after eating
sillykitty replied to RainbowBrite57's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeve here ... I can drink right up until eating. But 2.5 years out I cannot drink any significant amount on a full stomach. For as long as there is food in my stomach drinking any volume causes me to be very uncomfortable, and depending if I push it, it can make me nauseous. -
