    Carbs?

@SteveT74 I do also appreciate your well thought out responses and your passion. The bolded part of your response is the crux of what I disagree with. The science of diet, weight loss, metabolism is not at all cut and dry. For every study that says one thing, you will find a study that contradicts it. I stick by my assertion that you have made a lot of assumptions, or maybe a better term is have opinions, and are treating them as facts. "you're excluding important micronutrients .. we can take supplements but most of those pillsonly mimic the Vitamins" "your going to risk liver and kindney damage and possibly failure" "It will also help her in the long run potentially avoid some of the nutritional pitfalls that could happen (like Hair loss and other more significant issues)." "you need to have fats in your diet" " you should still try to get your calorie consumption up near 1000k a day. It's not going to really change your rate of weight loss significantly (it might slow things a tiny bit), but it will help you prevent regain to get yourself to a point where you can eat a sustainable amount of calories daily. You don't want your body to adapt to 600 calories a day and base your new set point on maintenance at that level. That's not a recipe for long term success."

Yeah, that makes no sense at all. If you are consuming below your BMR, and get to the point where you stop losing, doesn't that mean you've lowered your BMR to that super low point? Then wouldn't that guarantee regain, ot a miserable life of counting calories and hunger. F all that! This is an example of why I wasn't a very compliant post WLS patient. Nutritionist are all over the place. I just took the commonalities of all programs (protein first, for example) and applied my own common sense, vs. strictly following the dogma of the particular nutritionist that was part of my program.

I think I had body dysmorphia pre WLS. Me right now, feels like the real me. I really feel like I'm the same person only with cuter clothes and saggier skin. The only thing that feels foreign is my energy level. Looking back I just didn't realize that my feet didn't hurt in heels, that walking a mile was no big deal. But after being overweight and avoiding any form of exertion (outside of cardio), and having constantly aching feet, I totally believed that was the norm. Weirdly, little stuff like that is the only thing that takes getting used to. I am frightened of regain. I mean right now I'm doing the opposite of what every bariatric nutritionist would advise. But if I followed the rules, I would still be losing. So I haven't done the psychological work needed for when this crazy fantasy land I am in comes to an end. But, what I cling to, is my determination. I freaking love my new skinny wardrobe. I am going to be spending A LOT of money on plastics. I am too stubborn and vain to backtrack significantly. Additionally, IF was a revelation for me. I feel that IF is a long term sustainable option for me. Most days are truly not a struggle. I need a long term eat strategy that fits me. I could go low carb, but I know myself, and that would make me miserable. So I see IF as my safety net when the scale starts to go in the wrong direction.

I think this may very well be the case. We all know how much I love me some carbs, the higher the glycemic index , the more I love them 😍. I eat so few meals that don't include a fair amount of carbs, I couldn't tell you if eating dense, moist, chewy, succulent protein alone would trigger my hunger. I mean last night I had wings, but then had a beer, so, yeah, hungry. When I get to a place where I'm gaining, or am just sick of being hungry, I'll definitely test this out. I'm kind of in the ultimate honeymoon period right now, so I'm just going to enjoy my carbfest while I can. I actually may need to start adding in some more fats, because I hit my all time low, my ticker weight, again this morning. Good news is I have a metric ton of macadamia nuts in the house right now from my recent trip to the Aloha state. Interesting how we are all so different. One thing I can say for certain is I have no hunger response to artificial sweeteners. I have been a long time diet soda, addict, I guess. I only gave it up for a short while post op. (Did you know a Double Gulp is 64 oz? 🤣) So I was drinking diet soda during times when I had no hunger, and it was my fluid I'd drink to stave off hunger when I was doing IF.

Ohhh ... good topic, slider foods. I have no real slider foods, that I have found. I don't eat yogurt, but if I eat soup or ice cream/frozen yogurt, I still feel full/feel my restriction. If it's a fairly thin soup, I can consume about 2 cups, maybe? Solid foods, nothing slides, crackers, pasta, chips, about an ounce or two in, I can feel my restriction. BUT, now days my stomach empties fast. It doesn't seem to matter if it is dense protein, or carby stuff. It's gone out of my stomach usually in less than an hour, sometimes far less. Since I've stopped doing IF, I've been a lot hungrier. Like if my stomach is empty, then I'm hungry. Normally this would scare the crap out of me, the fact that I feel satiated for such a short amount of time. I'm good for right now, as I'm trying to put the breaks on my weight loss. But I'm hopeful that if the future when I stabilize I can utilize IF, because IME, it greatly reduces my hunger.

    Carbs?

@SteveT74 I think you are making a lot of assumptions here, based on your own experience. There are a lot of different paths to success after WLS. @ms.sss is under care by both her surgeon and a nutritionist, and they are both satisfied And as anecdotal evidence, I was very low cal during my weight loss, many days very similar to what @ms.sss describes. I did not wreck my metabolism. I got under goal weight without intending to. I am now averaging over 1500 cals a day, and still struggling to not continue to lose. (Btw 1500 cals avg is basically eating all day, since I have a lot of restriction) Now will I be a "long term success"? I hope so, but I can't know for certain, just as you can't. We are all so different. I would never assume that someone on a different, but medically supervised plan, is going to be unsuccessful.

    Non Scale Victories

I actually prefer to walk places these days, rather than driving. Pick up my dry cleaning ... walk, get my hair done .... walk. I haven't talked myself into walking to grocery shop yet. I'll need to buy one of those little old lady push carts! 🤣

    Any Pescatarians?

Not a pescaterian, but I don't see it being an issue for the most part. Fortunately for you fish and shellfish are for the most part very lean and protein dense. The area it might be challenging is when you are dining out or on the road. At a restaurant you will have significantly fewer choices, and potentially even fewer "good" choices. And at fast food or convenience stores, you will be even more limited. If you eat cheese and eggs, that will help broaden your options. But no matter what you may just need to be more proactive than most, and pack protein bars, nuts, salmon jerky, canned tuna salad etc., in case you get stuck and are hungry.
  13. Ahhhh, thanks @FluffyChix! But I have undoubtedly been extremely fortunate that have lost as much as I have, and been able to maintain, so far. I do think it is important to recognize that I am an outlier though. I have been far more successful than average, with 100% of my excess weight lost, and also that I didn't need to be "perfect", or quite honestly even close to perfect, to get there.
  14. @AEdoesRnY Welcome! I'm not currently doing IF because I'm trying to find my maintenance sweet spot. But I love that I have it in my back pocket for if or when (ok, realistically, it's when not if) I start to regain. (For the record I'm ok with some regain, as long as it's in the right places) My favorite things about IF - Decreased hunger - I've never felt so in control as when I was actively doing IF. I did 18:6 or 20:4 for the most part. I'm not naturally a breakfast eater, so I just pushed my first meal back as far as possible, some days that was 10 am, some days it was 4 pm, and either was fine by me. Then after my evening meal, I just tried not to snack. Or if I did need to eat something, I just made sure it was super low cal, like cucumbers, or jerky. The longer and more consistently I did IF, the easier it became. I was natural to reach for a drink vs. something to eat. Pushing my first meal later and later became easier. For the most part, I was truly not hungry, even though I might be spending 20 hrs of my day not eating. - Flexibility - If one day IF just isn't possible, due to schedule, or hunger, or whatever, that's perfectly fine. Nothing is ruined, you didn't fail, you just didn't do IF that day, no big deal. This is an incredibly freeing concept for me. I mean if you are on a low carb diet and you eat a bowl of pasta, you feel like a failure, right? I don't see IF like that at all. I mean some versions of IF are high/low days (like 5:2), so if you eat during a longer window, or you made some not great choices, that's just a high day, right? Ok, that's my IF soapbox, thanks for listening!
  15. Hey that's me! Yes, I have never been a low carb-er. But when I was in my weight loss phase, as @FluffyChix pointed out, I was low carb by default, due to my restriction + needing to hit my protein goal. I was consistently in ketosis solely due to being on basically a very low calorie diet. I think, IF also may have helped to protect me from ruining my metabolism, since I was eating so few cals, so often. I inadvertently did a modified 5:2 form of IF. When I was home I'd be very focused, very low cal. But then during work travel I'd be all over the place, like biscuits and gravy for breakfast kind of thing. But again due to restriction, and a structured eating schedule (3 meals a day), I was never insane with cals even those days. I may just be grasping at straws here, because I've been far more successful then I deserve to be, and I don't know why I've been so lucky.

    Carbs?

Most programs don't have a carb target or limit. Just about every program says protein first, followed by green veg, and lastly carbs. If you follow that your carb count will be low

    What's Your Caloric Sweet Spot?

I'm not @ms.sss, but for me, lean meats were the key. Specifically, grilled or poached chicken breast, grilled shrimp or shrimp ceviche, seafood, grilled or raw prep like poke or sashimi, seared scallops, and turkey or beef jerky as a snack.
