THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD

I appreciate your perspective. From being on BP for clearly too long, I have seen two things repeatedly from self diagnosed "slow losers" Many "slow losers" latch on the the 60 lbs in two months and believe that is the norm. I wouldn't even say that is dysmorphic or self defeating, it's just illogical (or maybe pity party-ish?). Any information outside of those few outlier posts would tell them it's not the norm, but yet they persist in labeling themselves despite losing at an average or even above average rate. Many "slow losers" at first claim to follow plan perfectly, have huge calories deficits etc.. But then when questioned it often comes out that they aren't logging, or logging inaccurately (or maybe believe their metabolic burn rate is higher than it is in he case of @Serengirl) I do believe in CICO as a general rule, but know there are tons of astericks and fine print. There are stalls and set points, there are medications, and hormonal issues, and a slew of other things that affect the "calculation". But at the end of the day all weight loss is due to burning more calories than you take it. I have an issue with @Serengirl statements like "I can eat consistently in the mid 600's, Protein around 90, Water over 80oz and i workout hard at least an hour 6 days a week and i can lose - NOTHING. ZILCH. NADA" That is untrue over any sustained amount of time for the vast, vast majority of people. I think posting that information is unhelpful, and needs to be contradicted. WLS is hugely successful for most people. I wouldn't want anyone researching WLS to see that and decide it's not worth it from posts that have a significant negative bias. As I stated I have no doubt there are actual slow losers, the bell curve and all. But it seems that many people put that label on themselves and persistently defend it, despite evidence to the contrary.

I'm not sure where you are getting that information from. But you would literally have to run a marathon everyday to burn those kind of calories.
  3. I. feel. attacked. 🤣 Seriously @Sheribear68, this is a pattern we have seen over and over, where many of us slide under goal. You'll have to find a way to up your calories. I also rarely eat in the am, I'm just a "get things done" morning person, busy, and not hungry. I still get plenty of calories in the rest of the day, so it is doable. Just don't be afraid of adding more calories, you need them
  4. I'll probably just stare into space and then order take out 😂
  5. That was exactly @Brent701's point ...."You can still eat a lot of things in moderation. Ive said it dozens of times nobody got fat eating a slice of cake they got fat eating the whole damn cake" Eat a couple of bites of the Waffle Fried chicken smothered in Gravy, get your fill of it, and then move on. No harm done as long as it isn't a slippery slope trigger. On the topic of Cooking Shows etc., I could not watch them during my WLS phase. They were total head hunger triggers, and could not deal.

Am I losing weight too fast?

Dizzy spells could also be low blood pressure. Or early on post WLS I was low on B12 and that make me feel tired and weak.

    Still Hungry

One skill you're going to need to learn is how to differentiate types of hunger. Is it physical hunger that can be satisfied by something nutritious? Is it head hunger where you need to remove the trigger? Is it stomach acid and you need to make sure you're taking your PPI?

    Food Before and After Photos

Same!! I've been to a fair amount of Peruvian restaurants and your uncle's food looks super fancy! Going back to a previous post of yours @MarvelGirl25. I eat out professionally a lot. And how little I could eat, and how much it was noticed and commented on was, for me, the hardest thing about WLS. But as time went on I could eat closer to normal portions, and the comments stopped. So it won't last forever, just know it's temporary. As far as alcohol. I had my first drink 3 weeks post op (work situation). But after that I mostly swore off alcohol during my WL phase. It just wasn't worth the liquid calories to me, they add up fast. But I also didn't deprive myself. I had a few drinks my birthday week, or when someone bought a really nice bottle of wine at dinner, and on vacation.
  9. Totally legal here ... Maybe I'll give it a shot, maybe tonight. I'm a little apprehensive, it has always hit me super hard. I go straight from fine to HIGH. Not sure how I feel about sitting around high af f**k in my robe all by myself tonight 😂
  10. Waaayyy too soon to start this. Just be patient, let your surgery work. The less you weigh the slower you lose. You've gotten used to losing weight much faster than average. There is no need at this point to kick up your weight loss any further. Save IF for when your hunger returns, you have more stomach capacity, and need extra tools to maintain.
  11. The pain has stayed the same, just able to localize where the sharp pain is, if that makes sense. Swelling has been completely consistent since it started 12 days post op, no change. Yes, my surgeon and his PA are amazingly responsive. Swelling just is what it is, completely normal, no matter how annoying it is. The muscle pain, had a couple of long convo's about it. Basically it would be very difficult for me to do any real damage. Both the sutures and muscles involved in the plication are incredible tough. If I had done any real damage I would have known IMMEDIATELY. It would not have been a growing ache/pain/soreness. But I did apparently irritate/stretch/something my abdominal muscles. Only remedy is rest them as much as possible and let them heal again.
  12. I took my leftover Percoset on Sunday & Monday night, the pain was keeping me awake. During the day I am taking Advil (I know this is generally forbidden after WLS, but it's what works for me). The abdominal pain along w the swelling is causing me to hunch over a bit, so that leads to a sore back as well, which the Advil helps with.
  13. Be super careful! I am in a literal world of hurt since Saturday night from what my surgeon and I both believe is simply overdoing it. I did no real excercise, but I did, carry heavy grocery bags, pick up heavy pots of water from the ground, pick up my mom's pup, and more I can't recall I'm sure. It is general pain in my abdominal muscles. But it has focused these last day or two on one area below my rib on the right, the pain is sharper there. I sneezed last night and it almost made me cry. So I believe I may have pulled, stressed that stitch. This is actually more pain then I have been in since my first week post op, So I don't recommend working your abdomen, from my experience. It's not worth it

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Not an expert at all. But my first thought is that was a lot of food in quick succession. Maybe just too much for your stomach to process after a little shrinkage from fasting?

Aldi Zero Net Carb bread was a THING back in the fall. Quickly went out of stock due to demand (think Popeye's Chicken Sandwich). But rumor has it is is back as a regular item, but supplies are still spotty https://www.delish.com/food-news/a29520804/aldi-keto-friendly-sliced-bread/

THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD

Maybe it's just a sign I've been on BP too long, but over and over again I have seen people complain that they are slow losers, but are actually just average or even fast losers. How much of THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB is actually the Unrealistic Expectations Club? I'm not at all saying there aren't slow losers. Life is a bell curve, and there are half as many people on each end. But I think the attitude displayed by those like @FluffyChix, @Cheeseburgh and others are what make the difference. I mean even for slow losers, isn't weight loss the fastest after WLS then any other "diet"? Even most slow losers get to -100 lbs or more in a year or so. I just think labeling yourself a slow loser can be self defeating at times and seems very dysmorphic at others.

Oh man, I would be so sad if Chicago Mix ever turned on me 😟 I make a special trek and pay outrageous sums of money for popcorn I'm at whenever I'm at ORD. (thankfully not that often or I'd be broke and fat!)

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

I'm monitoring my temp twice a day. I even take my thermometer to my bf's house 🤣 I don't feel unwell at all. Just uncomfortable. All of my annoyances are just kind of expected things. It seems like very few escape swelling. I had hoped I would be an exception, but no such luck. The wound weepiness. It is a moist spot naturally with a lot of tension, hence delayed healing. The muscle soreness, looking back, I did a lot of lifting these last few days, grocery bags, prepped meals, big heavy sous vide container. I think that is to blame (I'm telling myself it's not the cardio!) My surgeon and his office is in the loop on everything, with pics, so I'm confident it's not serious, just very frustrating. I have stated patience is not a virtue of mine, right?? 😂 Posting from my desk in sweats, a robe, and covered by a blanket 😂

Pretty big, they weigh a ton! The salad would probably be 2-3 meals, and the others 3-4.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Four weeks post op today! Overall I think my recovery has gone really well. I was so unsure about when I would be functional. That happened about 2 weeks post op, so sooner than I expected. But I am impatient about the issues that are minor in the scheme of things, but annoying in the moment. My swelling is uncomfortable and there are no signs of it subsiding anytime soon. It is pronounced, and I look a few months pregnant. My incision at the crack is weepy (and smelly ) and will take weeks to resolve according to my surgeon's office. My raised incision is lumpy to rest on and hard to dress around. Sleeping is uncomfortable in that I can't stay in one position for more than an hour or two. (Yes, I recognize I'm a total whiny baby about all this) Newest development is I developed increased soreness of my abdominal muscles. Nothing sharp, just a deep ache like I had done a billion sit ups. It developed throughout the weekend. I called my surgeons office about it this morning. It is probably just from overdoing it as I have returned to normal life, grocery shopping, house keeping etc.. I was advised to take it easier. The corset type sutures take 8 weeks to fully heal and I don't want to cause them to separate before that happens. So I guess I'm retreating back to being as lazy as possible. So back to sweatpants @FluffyChix & @ms.sss 😂 I also had my first lymphatic massage last week to help reduce the swelling. I have two schedule this week and two next. I'm skeptical .... It is a very light touch, and my logic brain just can't comprehend that it will actually help. But I'm desperate to deflate, so I'm going to give it a shot.

to implant or not to implant

Yes, rippling is one of the cons of saline. No real way to avoid it, especially if you don't have breast tissue to camouflage it. There is a new kind of saline implant called Ideal. It is supposed to have the safety of saline with the feel of silicone. But it is very new and unproven. Also few surgeons use/are approved to use the implant. So I'm certain you'd have to go to DC if you wanted this option. https://idealimplant.com/
