  1. They need to know you are taking medical leave, but they certainly don't need to know why
  2. Thanks Ash .... you're right on every point. What I tell myself is he had the absolute best of me for 7 years. And his embarrassment over my appearance mattered more to him than anything else. I can change my weight (and I am!), but he can't change his shallowness
  3. Thanks @Chrisb428 ... I have to tell you I do have a fantasy of running into him in public, especially after I get my plastics, lol! Even better if I have a hot bf with me!
  4. BIG CONFESSION TIME I had a boyfriend of 7 years, who left me over my weight. When we got together I was probably around 170-180. When he left me I was about 230. We had no other major issues. We got along extremely well. We had only a few fights during our entire relationship. Despite my weight I was more physical active, and active in general (more social, traveled frequently), and also took a lot of pride in my appearance. He was slightly overweight when we met, gained some weight, and then lost weight to end up just very slightly overweight. I noticed he started to not invite me to things with his family or friends. I didn't think too much about it. Holidays were off the table with him having 2 sets of kids, and me with my family, so we never did those together. Otherwise he was pretty much a homebody, so other social events for him were few and far between, made it easy to ignore. We both had demanding and social jobs, so staying in and me cooking was the norm. I barely noticed the decline in going out. I knew from the beginning I wasn't his physical type. But I figured it wasn't a big deal, because we had a great sex life. There were things about him that weren't ideal, but all the good stuff made up for, I thought it was the same for him. He began to get more distant. So we finally sat down and talked and he said he wanted to break up. He wouldn't give me an answer why really. I finally asked him if it was my weight. He was surprised I knew it was an issue for him. He told he was embarrassed to bring me around his family and friends or to be seen in public with me. He was still sexually attracted to me, but too embarrassed to be seen with me. That was four years ago. I only told one person the real reason we broke up, and I did it when I was drunk, lol.

Vitamin Patches - Can we trust them?

I had a long conversation with my Dr. ex about this. He explained that transdermal medications take a lot of research and manipulation to allow the medication to pass through the skin's barriers. Prescription drug companies must invest in this because they are regulated by the FDA, but supplements and these patches are not. So it is safe to assume that Patch MD has probably not put the investment into research and molecular manipulation to sell patches at less than $1 each. Also we spoke about how one of the main functions of the skin is to keep just about everything out. If it didn't, we could never go into the ocean, or else we would die of a sodium overdose, we couldn't use lotion, not to mention bug repellents like deet.

Vitamin Patches - Can we trust them?

I dated a physician for quite a long time. One thing I learned is they are not all knowing, ESPECIALLY outside of their specialty. They will disagree vehemently within their own department. One thing he told me is to trust my own intelligence, knowledge, education and experience. If something doesn't make sense to me, then don't hesitate to question, respectfully of course. If a physician doesn't react well then find another because a good physician would welcome the learning experience and be grateful their patient is empowered about their own health.

Vitamin Patches - Can we trust them?

I think I am the can of worms I posted this a couple of weeks ago on the topic of vitamin patches: I looked into the patches and was seriously considering using them, because most supplements cause me nausea. I spoke in depth to my surgeon's PA (she has a much better bedside manner!) about them. She has the same issue w nausea, and had looked into them herself. She was skeptical and ultimately decided against them. She told me I should use the patches only as a last resort, as they might be better than nothing. Thankfully she suggested the multivitamin she takes, and it's easy on my stomach, so that problem solved. When I was considering the patches I also talked to a good friend of mine who's a GI. He very much doubted that most Vitamins and minerals could be absorbed transdermally. I asked him about labs tests to verify, and he said that labs can be very misleading and it can take many months, years, or even decades for deficiencies to show up. He said for instance Calcium will almost never show deficient, our bodies will just take from our bones. And that labs don't even test for all the vitamins and minerals we need. So taking those two opinions, plus my own doubts from this article, stating that the weight of the patch was significantly less than the combined weight of the claimed vitamins and minerals on the patch. https://www.unjury.com/blog/important-information-if-you-are-recommending-a-patch-vitamin/ . It just puts patches into the too good to be true category, and I'm staying away. And then there was this thread very recently. I'm linking from @Matt Z post, and then read down for my and @KimTriesRNY responses

    Non Scale Victories

Do you remember jeans before they included spandex?? Those are right up there with corsets!

    Non Scale Victories

Thanks! But the jeans are doing a lot of working holding my tummy in

Going on vacation in a couple of weeks so having to buy some new casual clothes. I can't wait to have some vacation photos with me in them that I don't hate! Now I just need my stupid tummy to go away, while keep my butt & boobs, or what's left of them!

    Food Before and After Photos

That is super interesting. I'm pretty good at estimating what I will be able to eat. I have nothing to contribute to this thread because my after is nearly always an empty plate.

    Was it worth it?

My only regret is I didn't do this years ago! I'm 5 1/2 months post op and down 75 lbs. Although this journey may not be easy. For me this has been the easiest and fastest weight I have ever lost. I still have 30 lbs to lose, but I already feel and look fantastic (in clothes at least). I knew before I had WLS I would want plastics. So I'm ok with the saggy skin for now, because as soon as I get to goal, I'll get it taken care of.
  14. Some places might do that, but not all. Heck the hospital didn't even do this when I was sleeved.

How often do you weigh yourself?

Same here! I consider it my true weight
  16. Exactly ... These have only slightly more protein per once, and higher calories per ounce than Premier Protein or Muscle Milk Pro.

How often do you weigh yourself?

I weigh myself everyday I am home. In the morning, after I use the restroom. BUT, I am not at all freaked out by stalls and gains. Annoyed, yes, but I know that I can't expect losses day after day.

    Vitamin help please!

Sorry, if you are happy with them that is great, truly My posts were more for people who might be reading and looking for answers, as to why gummies are often not approved for WLS patients.

    Vitamin help please!

Uh, yeah, that would be great! I've already given away 4 different types of multi because they upset my stomach. The only good thing is they went to my neighbor who was sleeved 2 months before me, and she has no issues with them.

    Vitamin help please!

Hmmm ... I'm tempted. But I've definitely gotten nausea with taking pills at bedtime. Then that double sucks, I'm nauseous and can't sleep

    Vitamin help please!

Do you have any problems with vitamins making you nauseous Ash? I'd love to switch to one a day, but nausea sucks!
  23. sillykitty

    Vitamin help please!

No, the FDA does not regulate supplements.

I assume it's the Kirkland brand of Multi gummies? https://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature-Adult-Multivitamin%2c-320-Gummies.product.100121461.html If so, this is what I mean by not very complete. Check out these vs. the ones I posted above.
