Hi Summer08...yes God is Awesome!!! I know what you mean, about being "ready" ahead of time. I go thru that all the time...I think He gets us on the right track, ready and sets the scene and then we are saying "Wow, this is what I have been praying for and I was following the path just recently not even recognizing it". I can't explain it, it is like Anticipatory Success....maybe recognizing His Will a bit slowly. I studied Lap Band info, found this site, prayed, and then went to an appt, got approved right there on the spot and had the surgery 20 days later. WOW! I was the only one at the seminar and app't who got approved and scheduled. I am now 10 days post op and still smiling and LOL, saying "I can't believe my burden has lifted". Every time I get on the scales, I think..."I will never see that weight again, PTL" All we have to do is Give Him the Glory. I am down 30 pounds (that was only since surgery and three days of pre op liquid) I don't think I would have ever experienced the feeling of hunger w/o being a diabetic first, I don't think I ever would have experienced wanting to be healthy w/o the miserable co-morbidities first, and I don't think I would have been "broken" or ready enough at an earlier age. His timing is perfect. Keep Lookin' Up :wink2:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
ChristyC replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am nine days post op, doing fine. I hear so much about gas, and I sure have it. It is not the "gas" that can settle in the shoulder post op. But, it is common to have so much INTESTINAL gas??? As in lots of huge farts?? (sorry to be blunt). Is that what everyone means when they are speaking of "gas"? I can let it go, and there is still lots of it that builds up all day...no pain really just annoyance. Also, 'still on clear liquids, is that why?? Thanks, ChristyC -
When you you banded and what types of food are you eating? I am still on clear liquids being only 8 days post op. And I too, can only take in about 300 calories and worry about losing too fast. (I am down 27 pounds in 11 days.) 'Something I prayed for and boom, here it is! LOL I think if we keep up the daily protein levels and if we don't feel weak, we are okay. I take in about 50 grams of protein a day, and find that clear Isopure and sometimes unflavored Unjury really help. If you are still concerned, call your doc or nutritionist. Best of luck to you. A happy Fellow Bandster  ChristyC

Hi Gwenn and others...just found this thread. I think that shoulder pain this far out for you is not necessarily gas, maybe stiffness from before or new sleeping positions. (I get that shoulder thing with hard sleeping). Of course I am no doctor. I am 58 and 8 days post op, and had to get more pain meds! :frown:. I walk quite a bit, and am probably too active. (Had to push my 79 yo cousin in wheelchair yesterday to her doc's office). We're all a bit different. I sure am grateful all of the knee pains and other obesity related pains have subsided with my recent weight loss, that is a miracle for me, lol.I am down 27 pounds since three days before my surgery (all liquids since then). I am thrilled to think I will never see them again, then worry a bit I have lost too fast. Aren't we silly animals, us humans! LOL Well, just finished by hot tea...Mmmm soothing my tummy, hopefully bad to bed. But have been reading here and could relate lots to Gwenn. Best of luck to you all...ChristyC from Michigan

Hi...I am being banded May 20th and am more worried about going to a big fancy wedding 4 weeks after surgery! There will be lots of food, drinks, family anxiety, etc. And this morning I solved all my problems!! I told my adult dd that I would skip the reception and go to the hotel with the little ones!! Much less stress for full liquids and all the social and family pressures. WHAT a relief. It sure feels good to take a step for me for a change!! ChristyC

Hi...I just found a "friend request" from you...sorry, I am not so good navigating this yet! I am from SSM Michigan, and see you are from Jackson. I grew up in Chelsea. I am 58...and love the cold and lakes of Michigan. Are you staying in FL? I was banded may 20th of this year...one week today. Doing well. A bit sore, but down 25 lbs since preop diet of three days! I got approved ASAP with a BMI of 50 so met the doc and had surgery in three weeks. It whirlwind but I was well prepared, thanks to the postings here and my own research! How long have you been banded?? Take Care, ChristyC from Michigan

Good Weekend NeverB4! I had one too. God helps us through anything, if we invite him to before hand. (No ice cream at a party, isn't that just like His sense of humor?) We had a big picnic in the woods with lots of family and friends, 'had to take a big pot of homemade soup for all. (only 50 degrees here). I was up there dipping and straining my portion of the soup behind a tree, taking out the noodles & veggies so I could only get the clear broth! Between that & some sips of clear Isopure (the greatest stuff) I am one week post op today! Only one more week of clear liquids. I still am amazed at how much I used to eat watching others at an event like that. I love eating like a thin person now!! I give HIM the glory for all that I have been thru. Have a great week all, ChristyC Good bless all of our warriors also, I pray for their safe return!

This is also my 5th day post op. I am missing crunchy food a bit but know also, I can eat regular food someday soon...just less. I think I'd spent so much time, eating, I actually have lots of spare time. LOL I am getting cabin fever sitting around, so had hubby just drive me to a park and walked a little. It made me feel great, but noted my strength is not 100% yet. I had my box of soymilk for dinner (very lactose intolerant) and am suppose to be on liquids for four weeks!! Oh well, gotta do this right

I was also banded on May 20th!! We rock and will be fine...just keep reading these posts and walking and following all the doc's orders to a tee!! We will find success and new health  I just today figured out how to use the ticker thing, thanks to computer-wiz DD. I am sore too but "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional" and I sick of suffering from all my co-morbidities and lugging around all that weight!! I am showered and off to church, but first a swig of the old pain meds...gotta love that stuff (tee hee)

I am so thrilled for you and your wise decisions to take care of yourself and role model for your little one. I wish I had the knowledge and support that you do at 25 yrs old. I just kept on getting bigger and bigger...you will not have all of the co morbidities one gets later in life and will be so much happier, the way God intended for you to be!! I had my band put on Tues at 58 yrs old, and started with a BMI of 50 and am down 20 with preop diet, etc. I am so happy to have done this...keep your eye on the prize and thank God your Granny is supporting the no more McD's thing. The child will stop hollering and make it a fun adventure for her! Maybe she can start finding photos in magazines of good foods for you both. Nutitionists will always help with kids, show them food groups...it's fun at that age and good to know now. Good Luck Darling, I am so proud of you!! You have no way to go but up with your health and happiness. ((Hugs)) ChristyC in Michigan

Just had my surgery Tues. and had four bags of frozen peas to rotate around in the freezer...two on two, refreezing. They work wonderfully. My hospital used ice packs. I never used to use them as they were inconvenient until someone suggested "frozen bags of peas". They mold to your form and fit anywhere. I think the cold shrinks swelling...makes things go down. Just try it and see. It was a new thing for me and worked. Good luck...ChristyC

I just went on line to read about band slippage! I am fine, no nausea or pain or reflux. LOLOL What a worry wart. It just is almost too good to be true, I am so grateful that I am now a Bandito!! :rolleyes2: ChristyC
-
I had my lap band in Tues, and had the normal ouches and pulls, etc. I have been using ice, and can tell if I take too much liquid, as it hurts some but subsides. Now all of a sudden, while using an ice pack last night...I have no more pain. It is all gone. My question is...duh, could this band have slipped? I did lift something yesterday morning that I shouldn't have, it didn't hurt then. I am thinking, what if the disappearance of pain is because of slippage..LOL Why can't I just accept the fact, I am healed!! LOL I still notice twinges of fullness, not pain...that is the normal reaction, correct?? It has been 4 days post op. Silly me...ChristyC

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
ChristyC replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgery went well on Tuesday. Just six incisions closed up with tape. Lost about 20 pounds before surgery. I am passing lots of gas, no problem...no gas pains. I love my "bags of peas" that I use for ice packs, love my liquid pain med, and just giggle out loud when I think that I am FINALLY on my way to losing weight FOR GOOD!!! My doc is pretty strict with liquids for two weeks, then soups and yogurt for another two weeks before starting solid foods. I have been to two potlucks since Tues and another one tonight!! IT is a big thing in my life (specific Ethnic people in my cirlcels)...but workable. I just sit there in a "fog" sipping on my soy milk and Isopure thinking, did I used to eat that much food!! LOL I never want to be a reformed smoker type, I would never say anything to anyone...but no wonder I started out at 307 lbs. But now I am down to 288 lbs. YEA FOR ME...Praise the Lord!! :cool2: ChristyC -
YEA!! Praise the Lord, I am Banded, as of Tuesday!! It all happened so fast and well, I let the Lord lead the way for a change!! My hubby is feeling betting (he was sick going down State) but he and his side of the family had a nice stay while I was down there in the hospital. I am home in nightie right now, enjoying liquid pain killer and the frozen juice things. The Isopure I got at a GNC on the way is a Godsend...I highly recomend that stuff. The only real challenge is getting my pills in, have to cut everything up so small with small sips of water....not complaining tho' that is a minor detail. Every once in a while I "remember" that I have my lap band tool now and don't have to have the weight drag me down anymore! I just smile and PTL. I am so grateful to God, my family and you folks for the support and prayers!! ((Hugs)) to all and keep posting, we need each other. ChristyC from Michigan :rolleyes2:

Well, Fellow Saints, we are leaving in about an hour for the Lap Band Center. It is a 6 hr drive, so going the night before. (My hubby is feeling OK, still under the weather. I think it is his gall bladder....better get mine done, before his! He is very grumpy but trying poor guy.) Thanks for the prayers and support, love reading all the comments. It has been a true blessing to have all this pre-surgery insight. This "Christian site", makes such a difference. How does anyone go thru trials, and life w/o the Lord! I have lost about 15 pounds with my liquid preop diet..even my knees hurt less. Wow, I am so excited!! :tt2: :frown: Praise the Lord....'talk to you when I return. ((Hugs)) ChristyC in Michigan ~~Prayers and best wishes to others who are being banded this week!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
ChristyC replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been on full liquids for 48 hours and do all clear liquids Monday, as my banding gets done Tues (YEA!!) I have had this dull ache in my stomach while doing this, not a real pain but an ache until I drink something again. This is a real Odd Question....but am I experiencing real hunger for the first time in ages????? It goes away for a few hours until I want to eat again. How unfamiliar (sad huh...spoiled Americans when others are starving) :leaving: Hopefully that is all it is...ChristyC -
Do you think it is harder for a diabetic to lose weight?
ChristyC replied to SueSue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Everything is harder for diabetics! I have been a type 2 for 16 yrs and am on a Humolog shot with each meal and Lantus at night. I take oral meds 2x daily also. I am on a preop diet and getting banded on this Tues. My BMI is 50 and I am 58 yrs old...a lot to loss and everything to gain. If you can find a great diabetic doctor or RN to work with as prescribed by your doctor, like I have...you can wean down off the insulin and oral meds and thus make it much easier to lose the weight. It can only be done with strict diet control. I am on only the oral meds now and the Lantus...off the Humalog WHICH IS ONLY MY STORY, I AM NOT SAYING TO DO THAT YOURSELF. But, it takes lots of checking blood sugars and watching proteins and carbs. It is not impossible if you are type 2. It is a horrid disease, and it really wears out the old pancreas fast. At least we can aim to decrease our meds and lose! Good luck and don't give up...find the right diabetic provider to work with. ChristyC -
My hubby awoke sick this a.m. and admitted he hadn't been well for a day or so (He never wants to speak out sickness) ....well we have a 6 hr ride to my surgery tomorrow!!! I know that the enemy is trying to throw a wrench in this but I am victorious! Please agree with me!! He is still in bed at 2:24 pm and I hope he can sleep this off....Thanks, ChristyC

Hey CathyChatts...usually a cardiologist checks out CHF, if they tell you that get an opinion from one. It usually involves lower salt intake and taking some water pills from what I know (a mere mortal). Will pray for you, ChristyC -
I just heard about it today....don't know what it is, but this woman said she was denied and threw that at the insurance company and she was approved immediately!! What ever it is, it worked for her!! ChristyC

My insurance turned me down for my pannicolectomy
ChristyC replied to BeckyinTexas's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am being banded Tues. and I already have a grade 3 pannus! I was told to lose 100 lbs then insurance would pay for PS. I just read about someone who had to threaten their insurance co with "Obesity Law" and it worked immediately. I am not sure what that is, but ask!! Something to make you laugh in the meantime: I was telling my 40 yr old neighbor about the lap band for his obese wife, and he said, "Does that mean if she lost lots of weight, she could get that origami thing on her body afterwards?" LMBO Hey this is just a bump in the road, it will work for you, never fear!! You have come a long way and doing an excellent job!! ChristyC -

I am being banded this Tues ~YEA!!!!~ All ready to go, but what is "sliming"?? It is throwing up mucus?? Please prepare me, LOL :woot: ChristyC -
Hello Ladies...I am being banded on May 20th also. As far as a pre-op diet my doc says to try and lose a "little weight", as to shrink my liver to make the surgery easier for him. I am trying...I only had three weeks for this and did okay in the beginning but now my "nervousness" reaction is making me nibble on more. So today, for three days I am trying to do high protein liquids. GOOD PRACTICE I think. I do have a BBQ B-day party on Sunday, but plan to take my protein drink. I figure it's time for reality! I pray that we all are safe and successful, and that angels will be all around us!! God Bless, ChristyC

I LOVE swimming and the water too!! That is what I visualize when upset or drifting off for surgery...must be part fish. I am excited, what in the heck is the Central Coast? I live on the North coast...know where that is? LOL Good luck with your research, hope you decide soon. ChristyC
