  1. My challenge ending weight was 213.6, so I lost 12.5 pounds. Less than I was hoping for over almost two months but at least it was progress! I did start the couch to five k program which I’m really excited about. I never got to a place of consistently hitting my exercise goals because it always felt like there were extenuating circumstances/things coming up to get in the way. Hoping to be able to refocus and get into a routine now that it’s the new year and fewer disruptions of family and travel!

    Resolutions 2019?

These are great! I love the last one - it’s so hard to do, great to have it boiled down to a “mantra” you can say to yourself to remember to stick with it! Good for you!!

    Non Scale Victories

This was me the entire time I was traveling/on vacation last week! We’d take pictures and then I’d look at them afterwards and not hate myself for being “gross” and “fat”. It makes me sad to think how down on myself I was, but it feels good not to have my gut reaction to photos be disappointment!

    Resolutions 2019?

Best of luck with your healing! I’m sure it’s really challenging to be patient with that process when you’re so ready for all the other changes that come with this surgery, especially after you had to wait so long to get it! Sending good healing thoughts your way!!

    Resolutions 2019?

My resolutions are: - more pure Water every day - get 12 visits at the gym every month - complete a C25K and eventually a C210K if I can - spend 30 min every day for self-care (crafting, reading, face masks, going for a walk, etc) - cook at least two recipes every month that I’ve never tried before - read at least 30 books (audio or regular)
  6. So I’m on an absolutely amazing trip to Ireland this week and it’s been fantastic both because, well, it’s IRELAND, and because it’s been chock full of NSVs. I am five months out from my RNY and as of the day I left home I am just about 70 lbs down (67.4 including two week pre-op). Some of my vacation NSVs: - my reaction to just about every picture that is taken of me is “OMG I LOOK SO GOOD!!”...total opposite of before weight loss - castles with a million stairs and huge hills to/from cool places like Giant’s Causeway don’t even cause me to get out of breath. I kept getting nervous and anticipated having a hard time with things that ended up being a breeze! - Lastly, one that is highly specific and special for me: I kissed the Blarney Stone! It involves 120+ very narrow winding stairs up and then someone holds you while you lie backwards and reach out to kiss it while you hold the bars and the person holding you helps. Even at my new weight I was self-conscious and nervous about whether I’d be able to do it or whether they’d look at me and tell me I was too big for it, but it went great! Here’s a not very flattering pic of it so you get the idea! I never ever would have had the confidence to try it before this weight loss. What a great feeling! What vacation specific NSVs have you had or do you look forward to??

    NSV: vacation edition

I think it’s because of where it’s located - position and angle is impossible to reach otherwise!

    No pizza for 4-5 months???

Rational brain is able to think things that the feelings side of the brain can’t. I’m just saying that the fear/worry over whether we can do it is very natural and very common.

    No pizza for 4-5 months???

I was honestly super worried about what going that long without pizza, etc., would be like as well. I feel like it’s dishonest to act like many (most?) of us don’t question our ability to go without the foods we’ve relied on for so long, especially because of the emotional ties many of us have to eating specific foods that we ought to avoid. I didn’t think I’d be able to go as long as I did without pizza, I bought a bunch of cauliflower crusts so I could have some “pizza” as soon as I got to solid foods. I think part of the point of surgery is to learn how to have our favorites in healthier ways and/or in smaller quantities and/or much less frequently. I am impressed by those who forgo things forever but I know that that is not realistic for me. Maybe I’d be losing faster if my attitude were different but I’m delighted with my 70lbs in five months and have been working really hard on food and fitness. I’ve also had pizza several times and it tasted damn good. My two cents anyway!
  10. Hello everyone! Tomorrow evening my husband and I are heading off on a very long awaited trip to Ireland! We’ll be there for a week, staying in Dublin the whole time with a couple day trips elsewhere. We CAN’T WAIT! I’ve been doing some planning and have some Protein Bars to pack, and a pill organizer for all the supplements, but I’m curious what suggestions or experiences (positive and negative) you had when traveling post-WLS. Any advice would be most appreciated!! Thanks!
  11. Thanks! Got something with paracetamol after I let the person at the pharmacy know I couldn’t do ibuprofen/nsaids! Hoping it kicks in sooooon!!
  12. Haven’t done a hop on hop off bus tour in Dublin, we’ve been doing a lot of walking around the city since most things were closed our first two days here for Christmas Eve and Christmas. This morning we’re heading over to Kilmainham Gaol! Quick question: are NSAIDS called something different here? Have a terrible sore throat and was going to stop by pharmacy to get something for it and want to make sure that I don’t accidentally take something I shouldn’t! Thanks!!
  13. Haha, we’re coming from Minnesota so anything above freezing is delightful weather! Also, when we first looked at the forecast it was supposed to be pouring every day and we’ve only had one brief and light drizzle so far, so we’re delighted! Hoping 50s and cloudy holds for today’s trip to Giants Causeway!!
  14. Waiting to board a flight and flying for the first time since my 7/30/18 surgery. Curious to hear from others about their post-op flying experiences! What was different? What was exciting? What was the same? What still sucked??

    Flying Post-Op

I’m realizing you’re asking about flying right after surgery, that I do not know! Sorry! My surgery was five months ago :)

    Flying Post-Op

Flight home to see family went great (only a 2.5 hour flight) and more recently I took a 7 hour flight to Dublin. which was also MUCH more comfortable than it would have 70 lbs ago! Everything felt a lot roomier for sure!
  17. Thank you so much for those protein tips!! Very helpful I really appreciate it!! I’ll let you know if any other questions come up, I’m just thrilled to be here!!
  18. I’m not a Jameson person! I am planning on having a pint or two in a local pub - even had it cleared by my NUT/clinic team and everything!
  19. This is part of why we’re staying at an Airbnb - that way we can cook many of our meals!!

    Rash?

Mine showed up about one week after surgery and started to fade away probably around the 2-2.5 month mark. Sorry not to be more helpful!

    Rash?

This happened to me as well, it DROVE ME NUTS! Nystatin cream worked better for me than the powder, but it didn’t make it go away entirely. Eventually (like a month or two later) it did go away.

    To-go lunches

NB: I do the bistro boxes sometimes, but right now I'm actually filled up by a chobani nonfat greek yogurt. So I'll bring a premier protein for midmorning and then have a greek yogurt at lunch and I'm good to go!
