Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
AEdoesRnY replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you a member of a gym that has group fitness classes? I found that even though I felt nervous trying them out at first, the group fitness classes have been a fantastic way to get good workouts. I have trouble coming up with effective things for me to do on my own at the gym, and 25-30 min of elliptical does less for me now than it used to since I’m carrying around 70lbs less of me, so group fitness classes that ensure a solid 45-60 min workout have been great. A lot of the time community education classes have workout/exercise options too if you want something affordable that’s not a gym membership, or you could do something like Cyclebar that has just the classes you sign up and pay for individually. Groupon often has a lot of great deals for classes through studios like that! The other thing that I find motivating is working toward jogging/running, so I started the couch to five k program using an app and I signed up for a couple 5K races in the next few months as an extra kick in the pants! -
What are your resolutions for this New Years? WLS related or non?
-
Also best of luck with the moving and debt goals! It’s amazing how much working on those two things can improve quality of life! Even just to chip away at the debt makes such a huge difference!!
-
Forgot to say on this thread: thank you for inspiring me to just go for it and rock the pixie!! I style it a little differently vs how it looked at the salon, but I like the before and after pics she took for comparison!!
-
Omg I need to copy your resolutions. I self-sabotage by snacking and by buying yummy cheese and crackers to have in the house. WHY WOULD I BUY A TWIN PACK OF GOAT CHEESE AND BREAD AND/OR CRACKERS FROM COSTCO WHEN I KNOW I’M JUST GOING TO EAT IT ALL?!?! I also need to do a derm appointment, or at least think about getting a nice facial and having them teach me some sort of regular skin care routine. I’ve never been good about taking care of my skin and it definitely shows. I’m with you also on figuring out next step in my career and schooling, though I’m in a different field. I’ve been circling around trying to figure this one out for so long and I finally want to take a step toward an actual decision! Sorry for poaching all your resolutions and making them about me, they just super resonated for me so much that I wanted to incorporate them as well! One thing I’m doing for the workout routine is that I make a schedule for myself on Sunday and I email it to myself and my husband. That way I’ve stated my plan and I get encouragement to stick with it. I missed a few nights this past week but I did get to a group fitness class I otherwise wouldn’t have gone to! I also signed up for a couple 5K races coming up in the next few months to work toward!

Sleeve or mini gastric bypass
AEdoesRnY replied to KelseySig's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Same here. Make an appointment to follow up with your surgeon to determine TOGETHER which surgery you will get. I changed my mind from sleeve to RNY between my first appointment and when I was approved for surgery, just had to make sure to advocate for myself and communicate! Maybe they’ll have some good reasons for keeping you with sleeve, but you want to make sure you’re fully in the know and empowered with what surgery you’re getting and why. -
Need breakfast ideas - what are you eating for bf?

How often do you get on the scale months out vs years out?
AEdoesRnY replied to Healthy_life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m about 6 months out, and I weigh 2-3 times per week but only record it once a week on Monday mornings. -
Congrats!!!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
AEdoesRnY replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I just add: PLATEAUS ARE STUPID AND DUMB EVEN IF I KNOW THEY ARE NECESSARY AND TEMPORARY. This one is also my fault...WAY too much bread and cheese meals lately. I’ve been hovering around 214-216 for the last month though and working out a bunch so I think my plateau should just go away by now. Feeling whiny today!! 🥺🥰🥺🥰 -

Wow!!! 114 lbs?!?! Amazing!!!! I had my gastric bypass on 7/30. I’ve been hovering between 65-67 lbs down for the last month or so...I’m really hoping to bust through this plateau sometime soon! -

Pixie cut and hair loss - 5/6 months out
AEdoesRnY posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So for a long time I had a goal of if/when I returned to my lowest ever adult weight, I would get a pixie cut again (which I had and loved the last time I was at that weight). A few weeks ago I hit that goal (217) - woo hoo!! However, as I was going to book my appointment to cut off all my hair, I started worrying that with my hair being so much thinner a pixie cut would emphasize the places it’s thinned. When I comb my hair in certain ways, I feel like I can see the bald spots a bit. Otherwise it’s not noticeable to others - just less volume and thinner hair which I am aware of but no one else is. Do we think a pixie might highlight the thinner spots, and I should just leave well enough alone since it looks okay now? Or should I go for it? Thoughts??? -

Pixie cut and hair loss - 5/6 months out
AEdoesRnY replied to AEdoesRnY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope so! Here we go!!! At the salon waiting for my 430 appointment now! excited and nervous!! -
This is maybe a pre-emptive NSV since it won’t be until this afternoon, BUT... I’m getting my haircut in a pixie cut today after work! I’ve been wanting one since the last time I had one 12 years ago when I was at my lowest weight ever (until now). Nervous but it’s super exciting that I’m willing to take the plunge again for the first time in over a decade! The only reason I might back out is if she says the hair loss will be more apparent with the pixie cut, but otherwise I’m going to go for it and CAN’T WAIT!!
-
Can’t wait until I feel confident enough to go to an amusement park! Congrats!!
-
I’ve been stalling for a few weeks but my body fat percentage just got below 40% for the first time in years...a decade or more I think! I’ll take it and focus on the positive even though I’d love the scale to budge too!

Pixie cut and hair loss - 5/6 months out
AEdoesRnY replied to AEdoesRnY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So this is one of those cases of people posting on here looking for permission/encouragement/an excuse to do something, and your comment 100% did that for me! Luckily this is a good one and not an unhealthy ask, right?? I’m going to schedule a haircut for this weekend I think. I was 20 the last time I had my pixie cut, but I feel like the weight loss has cut at least some of the 12 year difference off so I’m going to go for it! Just want to make sure I book with someone who is experienced enough to work with the thinning areas and not make it look even more sparse! -
Advice from a veteran
AEdoesRnY replied to Amanda Dutton LPC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great words of advice, thank you!!!!! Happy surgiversary and thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us!!!! -
Thank you! We all tend ( at least I do) to do for everybody else and put ourselves last because our(my) self esteem has always been so low because of my size. Now this year, It is all about what is best for me and not the rest! Its going to be about what i want to do. Do I want to travel? Where do I want to go ( not the adult children)? What do I want to do on the weekend? This is the mentality I will bring into the new year. I will not be selfish because life "all about me" makes for a lonely life, but I am going to live life and not let life carry me through. I completely agree - it’s not selfish! You have to fill your cup first to be able to give anything to others (“you can’t pour from an empty cup)! Or the other way of putting it - just like on an airplane, you have to put on your oxygen mask first! You’re right that so many of us have spent so long prioritizing others’ interests/needs/preferences, what a powerful and important step to take to focus on YOU doing YOU!!

Wow, it’s growing in SO CUTE! This is how I want to cut my hair and how I’ve wanted it for like a decade but I’ve been nervous that with my hair so much thinner it wouldn’t look good. Are you finding that the losses are visible when it’s growing back in? Or not really?
