Renewing US passport ahead of schedule?
AEdoesRnY posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So, I’ve lost 80 lbs and despite a monster stall keeping me from breaking through the barrier to wonderland, I’m wondering whether it’s time to update my passport even though it’s valid for another six years. I’m traveling to Sri Lanka this summer (woo hoo!!) and debating updating my passport in time for my August trip... wondering if anyone has any experiences either using their pre-weight-loss passport successfully/unsuccessfully, or having decided to update it early…I also cut off my hair so I look extra different! Thanks! -
Renewing US passport ahead of schedule?
AEdoesRnY replied to AEdoesRnY's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For SURE! I have no concerns about looking good/bad in the picture, I was just thinking I don't want to be stuck trying to convince someone at the airport in Sri Lanka that it really IS me... -
6 month post-op weight loss
AEdoesRnY replied to NotActive1234's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m in a pretty big stall/plateau phase right now - my February total weight loss was a whopping 1.6 lbs - but overall I’ve lost just about 80 lbs and I’m currently 7 months out from bypass surgery. -
It’s not yogurt, but I swear by my cottage cheese with pineapple in the morning! I do Kemps brand or “good culture” brand! https://www.goodculture.com/pineapple

I messaged my team SEVERAL times in my first few weeks out of surgery, sometimes several times a week. I know they probably thought that I was an annoying hypochondriac but they were kind and patient and helpful every time I got in touch, and I felt better keeping them in the loop and checking in rather than worrying on my own with dr. Google telling me catastrophic news. Never hesitate to be in touch with them and ask!

I’m so excited about your plateau breaking! And you and I had similar benchmarks - 217 was the smallest I’d ever been as an adult (after an entire summer of being a counselor at a weight loss camp). It was so exciting once I cleared that hurdle! It’s also when I cut my hair off because that summer was when I originally did the short hair thing and I’d always told myself if I ever got to 217 again I’d do it! I’ve been moving from plateau to plateau. I was 216-213 for a month and a half and then magically I dropped to 205-203 over the next month, and now I have a feeling I’ll be here for a bit (I weighed in at 204 this morning). If I can somehow get to 199 before my birthday (3/6) that’d be amazing, but it’s starting to feel unlikely...we shall see! Thank you again for your support, and sorry for dragging this thread into a self-indulgent pity party for a bit!!

I was cleared to drink things with caffeine after 2-3 months (can’t remember exactly when it was).

Thanks for the support! I am trying to focus on being proud of myself for not ordering pizza/going the emotional eating route. I ate what I’d planned to eat and then went to bed at 8:30. Here’s to hopefully going to the gym this weekend! Also trying to refocus on the fact that my last weigh in was 202.2. That means I’m less than three pounds away from being under 200 for the first time since middle school!!!!

I am having a really crappy night, and I’m trying not to beat myself up and to just really take care of myself. I am in the process of separating/divorcing, and although Valentine’s Day was never that big a thing for us as a couple, today is hitting me really hard. I am just one solid ball of anxiety and sadness right now, I canceled my personal training session because I just want to be home and in a ball and eating all the pizza and chocolate. I feel like an idiot for canceling it because I know that working out would make me feel better, but I just can’t get into a head space to be up for that right now. I need to remind myself that this is a pretty uniquely hard time for me, and just because I’m not working out when I’m going through this doesn’t mean I’m going to not work out regularly when things are normal… Right?

Wow wow wow. You look WONDERFUL and VIBRANT! You were gorgeous before as well, but you’re so full of life and look so much younger in the “after” picture. You’re my inspiration!

I think a lot of the time the stats include pre-op weight loss as well as post-op, so the “100 pounds in under a year” could really be 25 lbs before surgery, and then 75 lbs over the first 10-12 months post-op. My starting weight was 282.4, but I was 269.5 on surgery day because of my brief, two week pre-op diet. A lot of people have much more extensive pre-op diets and have to lose significant weight ahead of surgery. I am now 6 months out from surgery and just over 75lbs down overall. Weight loss has slowed significantly so I’m not really sure whether I’ll hit 100 by my anniversary counting from my highest weight, and I definitely don’t think I’m going to get to 169 by then. Just an added ingredient to think about! I also did RNY, not sure which surgery you’re doing!

I need to get back into cooking, I do the same thing sometimes which is when I get into a rut of I guess I’ll just have a cracker and cheese. My husband and I are separating; we are two weeks out from the big decision and while we’re taking the process slowly it’s been a wake up call of all the things that I stopped doing because I just counted on him to do it. Cooking is a major one of those, along with doing dishes. So I need to start getting motivated to do that regularly again, which is exciting but also somewhat daunting. I don’t want to resort to cheese and yogurt and live off of easy, prepackaged things, or worse off of take out which is just bad for me all around!

I agree with @fluffychix about variety - the drinks and meals you post about in the before/after food thread are #goals for me...I live on wasa and low fat provolone a lot of days. It’s so frustrating that we live in a society where paying attention to and picking apart what others eat is seen as an acceptable past time. I know it really rankled me a lot before surgery, where I always felt ashamed and like I had to rationalize a “treat” even if I was losing weight and had planned for the calories, etc. It’d be hard when it comes from a place of genuine care and concern, like it seems to be in your case, but still frustrating. It’s enough work to be mindful about what you’re eating for yourself that adding on a layer of feeling like you need to justify/explain would be really frustrating!

Yay!!!! Thank you!!!!

How long did it take you to get your surgeries?
AEdoesRnY replied to WeGettingThere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
February 2nd 2018 was my first meeting w/ docs, surgery was July 30. I could have had surgery a month or so earlier than that but I had travel already planned that we had to work around. I have health partners. -
Food Before and After Photos
AEdoesRnY replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I forgot to take after pics the first day, but I ate this for lunch over the course of two days (container is 2 cups). Quinoa with black Beans, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, diced green chilies, enchilada sauce, onion, and a lot of seasoning (cumin/chili/paprika/garlic/etc). So delicious and very filling!! -
Thanks!! and thanks again for the inspiration to go for it!!

We love love love our instant pot! We have a six quart for our family of 2. We use it all the time, nice to be able to cook a few things that we can then have as lunches for the week!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
AEdoesRnY replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m coming up on six months (RNY was 7/30/18), and finally seem to have busted through this long plateau of hovering between 214-216 for about a month. While I technically only “count” my Monday weigh ins, I did zoom past 70lbs down (including two week pre-op) on Friday and somehow have lost another couple pounds between then and today, so I’m excited that things seem to be moving again! My next thing I want to focus on is doing better with my protein and starting to cook more. Right now I feel like dairy is 80% of what I eat, and I’m in these ruts of cheese and crackers, etc. I’m hitting protein goals but I think I could do a better job of eating lean proteins with fewer carbs or at least better carbs! quinoa + beans > wasa + provolone!
