  1. Right now I’m just using an app called “tally” to make sure I’m remembering vitamins/pills and hitting my protein and fluids goals. My NUT doesn’t want me to track calories right now...but I’m only 2.5 weeks post-op!

When did you start taking your vitamins?

I also misread your post, sorry! I started taking Multivitamin, calcium citrate, and Vitamin D after my first consult with the clinic/surgeon - about six months before surgery. I had extra Vitamin D because I had a deficiency! Then I paused for a week and started the above!

When did you start taking your vitamins?

Started chewable multivitamins and sublingual b12 after my one week post-op appointment!
  4. Welcome to the other side!! Glad it went well! I found the pain was bad but got significantly better each day! By day four or five tylenol was enough to manage it. Good luck and speedy recovery!!
  5. My surgeon recommended once per week, and for my sanity it sounds like a good suggestion - a good way to try to focus on weekly trends rather than obsessing about every small fluctuation. I’m closing in on one week post-op, so the temptation to constantly weigh myself is DEFINITELY there! I’m wondering how often you weigh yourself, what helps you resist the urge to get on the scale daily or if you’ve found benefits from weighing in daily what are they? Thanks in advance!
  6. I had that too! Felt like I had a torn muscle or something in my stomach, I think they’re just rebuilding and regrowing? I’m two weeks out!

    Calorie intake

Absolutely, I'm going to follow the plan that I'm supposed to for sure! I'm just feeling nervous that if my calories are already at 550 JUST from liquids, it's just going to be way more than that once I start introducing pureed and solid foods down the road. I often feel physical hunger (and even more frequently head hunger) on what I'm eating now, so I worry that once I'm eating actual food it's going to be the same and I'm not going to be able to keep the calories low. I think I'm just in that really anxious phase of still being in liquids and really not feeling any restriction or fullness, and worrying that that's going to continue to be the case once I get to actual food. I need to take deep breaths and take it one day at a time, but that's been really hard for me to do!
  8. I like it, but ONLY if you can do a solid Gollum impression....something to work on during recovery at the hospital? I bet all the docs and staff would love it!

    Calorie intake

I’m only two weeks out and already ending up around 450-550 most days. It makes me a little nervous that I’m already that high even though I’m still on liquids (basically Clear Liquids plus strained soups). It’s probably normal but I have a lot of nerves about when I make the leap to puréed foods (8/20) and then to real food (9/3). There’s no calorie goal stated for this stage of my program, and while I’ve emailed my NUT to ask I am guessing I’ll get the customary as long as you’re eating what’s on the list and nothing else type answer. Sometimes I feel like surgery was a long time ago and then I snap out of it and remember that it’s been literally only 14 days and I need to stop getting ahead of myself and worrying...if only anxiety were rational!
  10. Hello! I'm on day 7 post-op and I'm getting excited for when I can sign up for a gym and start working toward some fitness goals. I'm curious how long you all waited before returning to/starting to go to the gym after surgery. I'm feeling impatient to get back to it but also don't want to sign up and then go and realize I'm not ready yet. I also have a couple good coupons/offers for signing up with no fees, so I'm trying to estimate how long it'll be before I'm back and if/when to take advantage of them. Thanks!
  11. Thanks for posting this, I read it several days ago and I’ve been reminding myself that others experienced the same thing when I’ve been worrying that even after I graduate to puréed and eventually solid foods I still won’t feel any restriction/fullness. I’m two weeks out now and I’m still on liquids only until 8/20, and between being able to drink 4-5 oz of Water no problem and hitting the infamous two week stall slightly early my anxiety about whether this will work for me has been escalating. Even though my anxiety often refuses to respond to reason, it’s helpful to be able to remind the rational side of my brain that this is normal.  Was this true for those of you who did bypass as well as sleeve??
  12. @mercmerc I think mine says 30-60mL for adults. I think I’ve been just doing 30mL and sometimes less depending on how blocked up/full/bloated I’m feeling. In my experience it has worked better when I take it in the evening for a BM the next day than in the morning or early afternoon, but it’s difficult to know for sure.

    Liquid Diet

Millie’s sipping broth (in Bariatric Pal Store and on amazon) are nice shortcuts to flavorful, interesting broths! They’re like teabags for “curry spice” “Thai lemongrass” and such. I like the spicy tortilla one a lot. I also purchased several skinny syrups from skinnymixes.com to add into Protein Shakes and other liquids. Love the mint chocolate chip and raspberry especially! I also bought a sampler pack of Protein powders from BP site so I’d have variety there as well. Edited to add:I’m two weeks post-op and have been on liquids only since 7/16, so I feel your pain! I won’t be starting puréed foods until 8/20!
  14. Have you tried milk of magnesia or anything stronger than the tea? I had something similar yesterday/day before. One large and painful solid and then liquidy for rest of the day. I’ve been trying to have a little MoM each day to prevent constipatio/build up because a few nights ago I had really painful stomach/cramping/eventual BM and I want to avoid doing that again...
  15. I’ve been hearing about this ricotta bake since before my preop diet and now that I’m just about two weeks post-op and only 9 days from puréed foods I am getting even more excited to try it out!!
  16. A friend who got her VSG four years ago recommended the two on the left in this photo, and the third popped up on amazon and had good reviews so I got it as well. I’m a really big fan of cookbooks, and I’m curious what books or websites have been your favorites for finding interesting recipes post-WLS!
  17. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm adding these to my collection for sure! Has anyone used skinnytaste.com post-surgery? We cooked those ALL the time before surgery, hoping I can still make some of them work after!
  18. I’m on my first full day home after surgery (which was 7/30/18). I was wondering if any other Fitbit people would be interested in having me add them on the app and invite to challenges specifically for people who are very recently post-op...I’m thinking people who had surgery in last couple weeks. Post or PM me your Fitbit email if you’d like me to add you to some daily or weekly challenges!
  19. Thanks! I’m doing pretty well, my biggest complaint is very itchy/bad reaction on skin around the incisions. My body is allergic to everything I guess! The last couple days I’ve been struggling with some hunger. My post-op plan is VERY strict compared to most of what I see on here so I’m on basically clear liquids plus milk and soup still until 8/20. I definitely have cravings, but mostly only when I see a commercial for pizza or if someone right by me is eating something delicious. Starting to daydream about what I’m going to have for day one of puréeds in less than two weeks!
  20. Love the Millie’s sipping broth! Great post-surgery too! So far I’ve only tried spicy tortilla but I am going to have curry spice this afternoon!
  21. Sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello puddings were life savers, AND invest in your spice rack! I used my taco seasoning spice blend to make my beef broth more interesting and it ended up being pretty tasty and relatively filling!
  22. Fitbit buddies/challenges aren’t for weight loss competition, just for daily and weekly step/movement goals and motivation...I am not and would not measure myself against someone else’s losses.
  23. Totally connect with how you’re feeling, though I still have another week and a half of liquids left. I went nuts with sampler packs of Protein flavors, Soups, and the skinny mixes zero calorie flavors so I have tons of variety and interesting things to drink. I figure that eventually we’ll get there but it’s okay if it takes me/us longer than planned! I love millie’s sipping broths, just tried the spicy tortilla! Yum!
  24. My doctor recommended MoM for the first week or so. I think maybe because Miralax is stronger and or has sugar? Not sure...MoM worked for me though!
  25. You have such a wonderful attitude, I really admire your spirit and how you’re responding to the process not being what you’d expected!
