  1. I had GERD prior to my surgery, during surgery they found a hernia, which I’ve kearned can cause acid reflux. It was repaired. 3 yrs post op had gall bladder taken out, hernia was back in same spot again. Both were dealt with surgically. 1 1/2 yrs after hernia repair it’s back again and so is my reflux. Not sure what I’m going to do but my dr has recommended a bypass. Just don’t know if I want to go that route.

    Cramps

Try taking a magnesium capsule. Many people don’t know their levels are low, but even if they are not it definitely helps with leg cramps.

    Hernia Repair

I woke up after surgery to find out I had a hernia. I have since had my gall bladder out and the same hernia repaired again. 1 1/2 yrs out from that repair it’s back again and I’m having a lot of issues with it. Just about every time I eat my stomach swells up like I’m 3 months pregnant and I usually have to take about 10 gas-x pills to get any relief.

    5 yrs post-VSG: Updates?

I’m 4 yrs out this month and I have regained 15lbs. I too find I eat much faster and can fit more food than I like. Before surgery i had an insatiable need for sugar. After surgery and for about 2 years post surgery I didn’t crave sugar like a use to, however, I’ve introduced more carbs over the years and my sweet tooth is back full force. I am about to try the pouch reset and start limiting my carbs much more to see if it helps to pull the weight back off. I’ve also had my gall bladder and a hernia repaired for a second time since my sleeve surgery and I’ve recntly started having really bad reflux. Turns out the hernia is back for a 3rd time in the same place. My dr is recommending a possible gastric bypass.

I have since had to have my gall bladder out and the same hernia repaired again. 1 1/2 yrs out from my second repair the hernia is back again and I’m having a lot of acid reflux. Dr. Is recommending a bypass.

Thoughts on doing a pouch reset

I am having the same issue with eating the wrong things and too much. I am 4 yrs post op and I’ve gained about 10lbs back. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but I’m worried I’m heading back to my old ways. I recently had to drink a Chalk like drink and have my stomach xrayed due to a recurring hernia. The dr said my stomach is somewhat stretched, but not enough to be concerned. Can doing g a reset shrink it back down?

    Carbinated drinks

I can no longer have carbonated drinks. They cause serious pain in my upper stomach. I tried one about 6 months after surgery and it felt one someone was stabbing me in the chest. However, my sister had the surgery and doesn’t have a problem drinking them, diet of course.

    Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery

Hi, I went in for the sleeve almost 4 yrs ago and during the surgery they found a hernia. They performed the sleeve and fixed the hernia. I got down to 160lbs. 2yrs post is my gall bladder failed and at the sane time my hernia came back in the same spot. They took out the GB and repaired the hernia again using a stronger technique to keep it from rupturing again. 2 weeks ago I had my annual check up with my dr and I have been noticing an increase in acid reflux, to the point I need meds. He had me do a barium chalk drink to view my stomach. Turns out my stomach has stretched a little at the top, which is normal, but the bottom is more narrow(could be causing the reflux somewhat)? However, the hernia was repaired twice is back again. His recommendation is to possibly do a bypass to get rid of reflux and we wouldn’t have to repair. Apparently I am prone to getting hernias.
  12. I had a hernia repaired when i went in for my sleeve. Didn’t even know I had it till after the surgery was over. I didn’t really have any pain after surgery. 2 years after my sleeve and hernia surgery my gall bladder started acting up. I had to drink this chalk stuff for them to look at my stomach and they found another hernia right where they had repaired the first. Had my gall bladder and the hernia repaired again. I had Intense pain like you’re describing the 2nd time around. It took about a month to settle down. Less than 2 yrs out from the 2nd hernia repair i have started having pretty significant acid reflux. I went Monday to see my surgeon and had to drink the chalk drink so they could look at my stomach to determine if something is wrong. Guess what, I have yet another hernia in basically the same spot and now my surgeon says I may have to have a gastric bypass done because I keep getting hernias.

    Hernia repair with gastric sleeve

I was out the next day, however, mine ruptured in the same spot and they found it again at the same time I was having my gall bladder surgery. My doctor repaired it by attaching it to my diaphragm to try to keep it from rupturing again. That surgery for me was extremely painful. I wound up back in the ER because of severe chest and stomach pains. Turns out it was a massive amount of gas lol. However, after the second surgery I had. Hard time getting food to go down because of how tight and where the repair was done.

    Acid reflux

I am almost 4 yrs post op and last year after visiting my dentist and having a mouth full of cavities(prior 6 month check up I had none) my doctor started investigating and a few months later my gall bladder started acting up and I was having acid reflux, which caused all the cavities. Turns out my gall bladder was bad and the hernia he had repaired during my original sleeve surgery had ruptured in the same spot again. After a painful recovery, I continued to have reflux, while not as bad as it use to be before surgery, it’s still there. Following my sleeve, my acid reflux was gone, but since this gallbladder/hernia surgery I have it again. I saw my gastroenterologist after the gallbladder surgery and he put me on pantoprazole 40mg everyday. I saw the nurse practitioner at my sleeve dr and told her about still having reflux and she said she doesn’t like the fact I’m on acid reducers because it’s not good to be on for an extended time. Next month the dr will do an X-ray of my hernia repair and my stomach because I’m also finding I can put more food into it, which has caused a 10lb increase in my weight this last year. Has anyone else had these issues?

    Acid reflux

    Thanks for the advice!

    Acid reflux

It’s not all the time if I take the meds, just certain foods, but if I try to take myself off the meds completely it is in full force. Maybe I should start keeping a good journal.
  17. In the last year i have had my gall bladder removed and a hernia repair redone due to a rupture again. Since this surgery I have had uncontrollable sugar cravings like i did before my sleeve surgery, I also have reflux and I am finding I can put more food into my stomach. Does anyone else have these insatiable sugar cravings?

    Uncontrollable sugar cravings

My protein intake is not as high as it should be so maybe that’s where the cravings are coming from. My gastro dr, different from the surgeon who did my surgery, did an endoscopy and put me on pantoprazole, but at my check up this week with the nurse practitioner at my surgeons office she told me they really don’t like for you to be on acid reducers too long. I’ve been on them for a year and if I don’t take them I feel the acid.

Anthem BCBS 6 Months Pre-Op Diet

Do you have any comorbidities? I had Anthem and had to do the 6 month diet. My nutritionist told me not to lose more than 5-10lbs, because my BMI was 39, but because of my comorbidities( diabetes, hbp, high cholesterol, thyroid, and 3 back surgeries). I shouldn’t have. Problem qualifying as long as I saw her once a month. I was approved.

    Exercise and Nutrtional Insurance approval

Oh I forgot to say I had Anthem insurance

    Exercise and Nutrtional Insurance approval

Mine also required the nutritionist. My dr has an in house nutritionist and I had to come back once a month for 6 months and keep a daily food record, however my insurance covered it and I only had to pay my co-pay.

    BMI under 40

I was a 38 BMI, 242lbs, 5’4 and I was approved due to comorbitities. My doctor recommended only losing 5lbs to assure insurance coverage. I was approved. I however had HBP, high cholesterol? Diabetes, thyroid, and degenerative disc disease(3 back surgeries), osteoarthritis. I would ask your dr if losing that much would disqualify you being you only have a few comorbidities.
