I think it’s normal. We consume so few calories in the beginning. I finding myself needing 2 naps a day right now.

4 days post op.. emotional wreck, help.
Lillymunster replied to mousecat88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m in day 7 post op and days 3 and 4 were bad for me. My pain was crazy and nothing was palatable. I’m feeling better now, just hang in there. Chicken broth with unflavored protein powder has helped. It feels more like real food than protein shakes and goes down super easy. -
Incisions leaking
Lillymunster replied to Lillymunster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s not infected. Just leaking a lot. Talked to a nurse at my program today who said not to worry even though I’m soaking through several layers of glaze in less than an hour. Hopefully it will stop soon. -
Did anyone’s incision sites leak? One of mine has a clear yellowish fluid coming out. It’s not hot, painful or foul smelling so I know it’s not infected. It’s just leaking a lot.

How long did everyone’s pain last? I’m 5 days post op and still have a lot of pain. I can get up and walk and do stuff but I hurt. The main area is right below my sternum. I’m getting my fluids and protein in, I go real slow and take small sips so I don’t think it’s that. My stomach is still real bloated too. I don’t think I should be concerned yet, just curious about other people’s experiences.

I had surgery the same day. How are you feeling now?

My pain was way better today. I’m 6 days post op today and I’ve just had Tylenol. I’m still having a hard time telling when I’m full. I stop when the burping starts.

Tell me about your immediate post-op recovery!
Lillymunster replied to BelleOfBatonRouge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke up in recovery in severe pain. I kept calling for a nurse and after what seemed like forever they gave me something. I woke up when I got to my room and i got into my bed myself. I was pretty out of it. My cath hurt so they took it out that night and I got to the bathroom with help. I was in a lot of pain that night and kept hitting my pain pump but it didn’t help. I thought morphine would have been better. The day after I woke up and felt much better. Did my swallow study and started with water. Started walking that day. I came home on 10/31 and I feel like my pain hasn’t improved. I do a lot of walking and wonder if I’m doing too much. -
I’m not on puréed yet so I can’t offer any advice but I’m interested to hear what others say.

Post surgery how does full feel
Lillymunster replied to Lillymunster's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m just doing water, protein shakes and broth. It’s still so weird that water fills me up. -
Hi. My gastric bypass was Monday. Monday night was rough but by Tuesday I felt much better. Water has been going down no problem as long as I take my time. Today was my first day on full liquids. My protein shake was a little harder but I did it. My plan allows for no fat, low sugar, low calorie greek yogurt on the full liquid stage. I got about half of that down before I felt terrible. Very sharp pains and short of breath, I hoping walking and taking a break from any fluids will help. Think I'll wait another few days before I try greek yogurt again.

Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
Lillymunster replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 3 days post op and my tastes have changed. I used to put fruit punch Mio in my water and it tastes bitter now. My go to Greek yogurt was pills triple 9 chocolate and that tastes terrible now. I’m also craving tuna and eggs (not together) which I’ve always hated and real crunchy iceberg lettuce. -
Surgery was Monday, things feel weird
Lillymunster replied to Lillymunster's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel better this am. I never would have thought half a yogurt would make me feel like I just had Thanksgiving dinner. -
Where do you go to meet people? I’m not a bar or club person. And I live in a fairly remote area. Do people still use Match.com or anything? I’m not necessarily looking for something super serious but the last time I was on one of those sites it seemed to be full of people who never wanted to meet or I’d just get random inappropriate pictures.

Ladies, TMI question
Lillymunster replied to moondoggie1983's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lung surgery a few years ago and had a heavy period during it. They didn’t give it a second thought. They will probably give you pads. They told me no tampons, I don’t know about a cup though. Just make sure they give you plenty of those heavy duty body wipes after so you can clean up. -
I went to my information session at the beginning of Nov 2017. They told us everything we would need. I got all my physician approvals and when I met with the surgeon for the first time we discussed how I’m anemic. I told him my iron was always low, Ive needed iron infusions in the past and two different hematologists can’t figure out why I’m anemic. He said it wasn’t an issue. After surgery we’d monitor it carefully. This is the end of January. They send me for lab work and in early March I have an appt with the psychologist, nutritionist, nurse practitioner and exercise physiologist. They all have to clear me for the next step. At this appt I’m told I need to go on birth control and I can’t move forward until I do that. Why didn’t they tell me that at my info session or surgeon appt? I get into my ob/gyn at the end of April and get the pill. Now they are telling me my iron is too low. Again, why didn’t you tell me this before. I met with the np in March and she had my latest labs. We talked about it. I would have made an appt with my hematologist. So I made one now but he can’t see me until June. Wtf! So irritated. They need to get their s$&@ together.

Over 40 havent had surgery yet.... Concerned
Lillymunster replied to Goldyloqs's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
So I met with a reproductive endo because I’m 39 and never had a baby. Wanted to freeze eggs before surgery. My BMI is too high for that but she said they can do it post surgery when I loose enough. I did have all the fertility blood work and scans done and know where I stand with fertility going in to surgery. I’d say meet with one before to find out where you are. -
Diabetics (cure or reduce?)
Lillymunster replied to Pat Pac's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So there is research out from Harvard that shows how after bypass your small intestine releases GLUT-1 which is what helps with putting Type2 in remission. Google it. Very interesting. -
What are your total carb and total sugar?
-
So my program says no potatoes (sweet or regular) for a few months, they are too high in carbs. I wonder if it is too soon for potato.

Post RNY (April 12)
Lillymunster replied to RavenMoonsong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program says to aim for a minimum of 60 grams of protein a day and under 500 calories. -
I don’t see a problem with it. I know some people get the munchies but I never have. And if you are in a state where it’s medical or recreational you can find a strain that is tailored for pain.

questions for those who have had a baby post-op
Lillymunster replied to haleyelizabeth's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have not had surgery yet or been pregnant but I did ask my surgeon about pregnancy after surgery. It's my main reason for surgery. He said that I should continue to take my 4 vitamins a day (Bariatric Fusion) when pregnant and then take a prenatal on top of that. The 4 a day are for me and my needs, the prenatal is for the baby. Makes sense to me. -
My program recommends Bariatric Fusion chewables. They say it is all you need (4 a day).
