My name is Polly. It is January 22, 2018 today. I am only days from my RNY surgery in the 30th. I started my journey almost 7 months ago. I have jumped through all the hoops, and my insurance has approved the surgery. At this point I am researching everything I can to make my transition easier. I loved lurking on this site and have read a lot of useful posts. Thank you all! But now is the time I think I will join in and participate.
I dedicated myself to my weight loss journey back in 2014 when I started a very low carb diet. I am a type II diabetic, with co-morbidities. After 2 years I had managed to go from 332 lbs down to 201. Then my Mother died. I suffered terrible depression. I wanted to go on a maintenance diet at that time, but the call of carbs soon took over and I found myself up almost 60 lbs in a year! After a discussion with my doctor, we decided that bariatric surgery would be the best tool for me.
I had been considering surgery for a few years, but was unable to afford it. My new insurance covers the surgery now, so I jumped at the chance to be approved. With my progressive diabetes, I was a shoe-in, so to speak. And after the 6-month stint with the dietician, the Psychologist visits, and my mandatory Bariatric Lifestyle classes, I am finally in the stretch to the finish line! Reality is slapping me right now.
I hope that this community will be a great resource of knowledge for me. I thank everyone in advance.
